Solinoid··on Net Neutrality Alive and Well in Canada
I can't quite wrap my head around Rogers' opposition to this. Usually they're in lockstep with Telus and Bell, and they have a significant foothold in traditional media in Canada.

Everything I've ever known about Rogers tells me to be wary of their opposition, but I still can't quite say what their play is here.

Solinoid··on Flying Cars Probably Won't Happen
Just think, in the future everyone could feel like they live next to an airport!
Solinoid··on Exercise for Aging Muscles
For anyone thinking it's a tough sell who is curerntly doing regular cardio; try it, it's tougher for sure but then it's over before you know it. I honestly can't go back to regular cardio now that I've tried Tabata/HIIT.
Solinoid··on Show HN: Zuck.js, a JavaScript library that lets you add Stories everywhere

Solinoid··on Web Scraping: Bypassing “403 Forbidden,” captchas, and more
Similarly I wrote a scraper for a local used item marketplace and whenever I need to purchase something that isn't urgent and I'm OK with it being second hand, I plug in the relevant stats and load it in to cron. Near instant notification with contact information and details in my email when a match is found.
Solinoid··on Mini Museum: Spinosaurus, Steve Jobs Turtleneck, SR-71, 14th Cent. Samurai Sword
It belongs in a museum!
Solinoid··on Show HN: Beehive – An open source IFTTT powered by Go's templating engine
could you maybe run an android fb app in a vm then sniff the traffic?
Solinoid··on Scuba: Diving into Data at Facebook [pdf]
I gotta say, I don't think a snorkel will help the poor person in your logo.
Solinoid··on Shell scripts to improve your writing
I think the Soylent CEO's blog is an example of this, but I haven't really noticed it as a trend in the tech world.
Solinoid··on Shell scripts to improve your writing
Can you provide an example of this style? thanks
Solinoid··on In Canada 50Mbps internet now considered a basic service
I was thinking of doing the same thing. What voip app do you use?
Solinoid··on Facebook charged with misleading EU on $22B WhatsApp merger
I believe that was coined by theregister.co.uk ^1, a fine source for quality wordplay and tech news/opinion. Unfortunately fondleslab never took off for tablet.

^1 I may be wrong

Solinoid··on Lucid Motors unveils the Air, a new luxe electric car with a 400-mile range
Do people really find Tesla cars attractive? I get a solid 'engineered, not designed' vibe from them. I don't think in 20 years time they'll be considered classics. This thing is pretty nice looking, but it's not fair to judge a real car vs. photos.
Solinoid··on ReMarkable Paper Tablet
from the close up this looks like etch-a-sketch magnet technology.
Solinoid··on Pinebook ARM Linux Laptop Powered by Allwinner A64 CPU
Can you explain further how Google is possibly at fault here? Legitimately ignorant of the situation.
Solinoid··on YouTube has apparently reinstated RSS feeds
Hello, a bit off topic but what rss reader do you use to pipe?
Solinoid··on Slow email replies cause serious anxiety
I'm aware of it, and I can't believe such a simple service is a paid add on.
Solinoid··on Ask HN: Torrent client (Mac) recommendations?
qBittorrent if you want a drop in replacement for uTorrent, otherwise Transmission is great if you want it running in the background and like having some command line control.

Solinoid··on Slow email replies cause serious anxiety
This. Not sure why 'Send in x min/hours/point_in_future' isn't a more common feature of communication software.
Solinoid··on Herman Miller Launches New Aeron Chair
I've had one for about 8 years and the rubber on the armrests has started to degrade in the past 2 years, but other than that no issues to report. Replacement armrests run about 60$.

That said I worked in an office that had about 200 of them, and chairs subject to heavier individuals had problems with the gas height adjuster failing. This was about 5 years ago so maybe they've sorted it out.

Solinoid··on Herman Miller Launches New Aeron Chair
No, I find them really off putting. I much prefer the look of Haworth Zody office chairs, and they offer similar adjustability.

Solinoid··on Wikileaks: Julian Assange's internet access 'cut'
There was a link on HN not too long ago to a quote from Assange, stating that part of the strategy is to sow uncertainty and doubt among the players to increase the secrecy tax. A multigig encrypted dump could have that effect.

That said he can't really play that card too often.

Solinoid··on Ask HN: $1k+ side projecters, what was the best thing you did to market it?
That's interesting. Given that you cater to 'shitposters' and you say yourself that you don't really know what you're doing, are you up at night wondering if you've made a novice error and a user or someone who dislikes one of your users is rooting around in your hardware up to no good? And is there any profit to be made at your current size for your revenue?
Solinoid··on Wikileaks: Julian Assange's internet access 'cut'
So long as we're all speculating, perhaps the state actor who leaked the documents to Wikileaks in the first place didn't agree with Assange's schedule and wants to trigger the dead man's switch.

Well, I'm off to read some classic Tom Clancy.

Solinoid··on What Linux Ultrabook do you suggest?
XPS 13.

That said, I haven't had much luck getting the usb-c dock working 100% correctly with Ubuntu 16.04. Going from laptop to attached to a separate monitor and peripherals works, but workstation to laptop more often than not will leave me with the laptop still 'seeing' the external monitor and treating the laptop monitor as the secondary display.

Solinoid··on Show HN: I made a Chrome extension that helps battle impulsive procrastination
Similar addon for Firefox: Leechblock. It lets you make collections of URLs and rules on how often you can visit them within x minutes, then it either blocks them completely or institutes a delay. I've found it helpful as I can easily whittle away my time aimlessly wandering the web (especially so with neverending pages).

Solinoid··on Tget – Wget for torrents
For any other rtorrent users, check out rtorrent-pyroscope for a modified version that provides a number of enhancements (more compact UI, a number of ancillary scripts to manage torrents, make torrents and modify torrent files).

Solinoid··on Tget – Wget for torrents
It's always nice to have options, but aria2 is a very mature cli file grabber that supports .torrent files among a host of other protocols.

Solinoid··on What $50 buys you at the Huaqiangbei electronics market in Shenzhen, China
Precisely what I was looking for, thanks.
Solinoid··on What $50 buys you at the Huaqiangbei electronics market in Shenzhen, China
I 100% agree with you, but I am still completely fascinated with articles that give us a glimpse into the underground wares of shenzhen.

I'd love to see some photos of these supposed great clones of iPhones and high end Androids. All the ones I've seen for sale on grey market sites look pretty fake.
