SanjayUttam··on Show HN: My Desk Chair
The keyboard + lack of monitor space reduces my productivity. Even on a laptop with a "large" (17"ish) screen and a decent full keyboard.

haha, my thoughts exactly, my OCD is driving me nuts just looking at this.. Can't even focus
SanjayUttam··on Dissecting the GZIP format (2011)
This link was on HN a few weeks ago, but it's a pretty neat visualization of gzip at work: http://jvns.ca/blog/2013/10/24/day-16-gzip-plus-poetry-equal...

SanjayUttam··on Formula 1′s Leading Team Has a Big Secret
Indeed, not to mention the very title of the Wired Article. I'm guessing the author has not recently checked into the concessions given to say, Ferrari [1][2].

That all said, to some extent controversies like these are what make F1 what it is...at least since I've been watching. Remember Jenson Button's secret fuel compartment? [3] Crashgate at Singapore? [4] Schumacher....everything? [5]

SanjayUttam··on Show HN: Escape from Bookmark Hell
"I liked the presentation, didn't like the history-filling aspect." +1
SanjayUttam··on Show HN: Escape from Bookmark Hell
Great idea, I've been meaning to do something like this since forever and it always got sidetracked. Big plus on the ability to free-text search all the content (not just title/url/etc...). I am not sure if any other service offers this for free (though Google might). It's a big fail [for me] to have a bookmarking service that stores my URLs but doesn't allow me to search all of the text.

As someone who has been using the same bookmarking service since about 2006 and has several thousand bookmarks related to various development domains/langs/etc; this is very useful.

SanjayUttam··on What is a magic number, and why is it bad?
Because doing so is one of the many measures you can take to ensure your software is (and stays) easily maintainable. Getting your SW working is only really one stage of a product life cycle.
SanjayUttam··on The CODE Keyboard
FWIW, when I used focus more on networking rather than development, I always used the numpad for typing in IP addresses. I found it was much faster to use it rather than moving horizontally across the number keys, but YMMV of course. Disclaimer: have a DAS Model S at work and home...can't really do without it (at least when the alternative is a terrible laptop keyboard)
SanjayUttam··on What does the HN community use for bookmarking sites?
Diigo...wish the search was a bit better but I suppose if I was better about tagging that would be less of a pain. Would love to know if someone has a tool they use with powerful search capability and ingestion of content (diigo does this, but for a fee)

Edit: Just looked at http://pinboard.in/ - looks great.

SanjayUttam··on Microsoft Code Digger
And more useful still if this worked on more than just portable class libraries [like the "original" Pex]
SanjayUttam··on AR Drone controller using RubyMotion
I think this made an appearance here some time back, as well... [AR Drone + Node] https://github.com/felixge/node-ar-drone
SanjayUttam··on Why is Spotify chugging upload bandwidth when it is not streaming?
Admittedly, higher effort and probably not for the non-tech but...android emulator + mobile app would probably work too. Granted I have other qualms with their mobile app.

For the premium users, I do wonder if any of the open source spotify clients would alleviate this?

SanjayUttam··on Meteorite crash in Russia
Those sounds are absolutely chilling.
SanjayUttam··on Get 50GB of Box free for life
Yep...Came here to say the same thing. They also had a 250GB promo a few weeks ago, but with a 250MB cap...it's really not going to do wonders.

SanjayUttam··on Linode vs. DigitalOcean – performance benchmarks
Anyone know of any similar hosts (VPS, SSD) for Windows Server? Seems like installing a virtual Win instance may not work [ http://digitalocean.uservoice.com/forums/136585-digital-ocea... ]

Alternatively, if anyone has successfully installed Windows on a VPS instance, please let me know :)

SanjayUttam··on Someone got the natural gas report 400 ms early
Off-topic; what was used to generate those graphs?
SanjayUttam··on Ask HN: Deploying django on github to AWS?
you might want to try stackoverflow.com - there isn't much technical support happening here.

SanjayUttam··on Ask HN: so who likes to code for fun And who does it for money?
both.
SanjayUttam··on Show HN: my weekend project – browse jobs posted to HN
Just curious what technologies you are using? Also how quickly will this update on the 1st when a new thread is posted...again - just curious.

Great job! Much better than ctrl-f-ing my way through postings [just like you were doing].

SanjayUttam··on How Facebook Survived 34 Intense Days Of "Lockdown" To Build Graph Search
I know there are some very cool/interesting challenges associated with graph BUT...this approach sounds ultra-painful and rather terrible. I don't really see myself being productive having been up for multiple days...but, maybe that's also why I am not employed by FB.
SanjayUttam··on Ask HN: Which developer laptop should I buy?
I don't know about the later generations, but 100% agree with you regarding the first-gen. The click pad and keyboard are atrocious. I finally disabled all the additional [dis]functionality of the click pad to make it a track pad, it's somewhat tolerable. I'm waiting for the day the keyboard breaks so I can remote into this machine and never physically interact with it again. I should have purchased an Air.

SanjayUttam··on TechStars Graduate DigitalOcean Switches To SSD For Its $5 Per Month VPS
Same issue here. Maybe they know something we don't. (ha-ha).
SanjayUttam··on How our users exploited concurrency and how we fixed it
I might be trivializing this but you could create a view "ActiveUsers" / "DeletedUsers". Not saying this make the IsDeleted flag perfect, but it would alleviate that particular problem, IMO.
SanjayUttam··on Codecademy introduces API lessons with YouTube, SoundCloud, Parse, and more
This is going to be super helpful for one of the projects I'm working on...researching APIs is always a bit time consuming due to the huge discrepancy in documentation quality/location/formatting/examples/etc.
SanjayUttam··on Now Google is blocking Windows Phones from accessing maps.Google.com

SanjayUttam··on Show HN: Tempo, a simple way to visualize how much email you get
Totally agree. This might be very cool (didn't read comments) but without knowing what I'm signing up for I can't grant access to my GMail... The value proposition is unknown.
