I give that long preamble to say once a record is done and mastered, having > 16/44.1khz is wasted bandwidth.
Anyway I think we are probably saying the same thing and discussing semantics.(and to be fair it is probably just me:) )
1)Flying in private jets != killing an rhino. Yes a jet harms the environment. Not debating that at all. However, they are more like a drop of water in the ocean in terms of pollution. 2) If this is the tip of the iceberg what are we taking away next because the amount of consumption is too conspicuous? 3) why should a private jet not be a thing? is there no reason ever for a private jet? 4) when was the last time someone shamed you into complying? Did it make you change your mind willingly and not resent the person who shamed you? Is that the way to affect change in a healthy way? 5) what companies are telling you to change your habits? Genuinely curious- what are you having to do that you don’t want to because a rich company is telling you to change? I’m really trying to think of one and cannot. 6) which rich people specifically are you or people supposed to be mad at? For what reasons? Should they not be allowed to be rich? Is being rich a bad thing? I can think of a few things that even Kim K has done that are good for society (judicial reform being a big one)
So let’s say that we have a private jet tax that is some scalable amount to make people stop flying private.
1) commercial flights typically are not as direct as a private flight can be since small regional airports can accommodate small jets and not commercial ones. So if you were to fly into Houston you could fly to the side of town you wanted instead of the north(iah) or central (hou) part of town. That saves upwards of an hour of driving afterwards.
2) does this fix our carbon problem? Unfortunately no.
3) even electric cars are 40-50 years away from going away. There is nowhere near the same amount of charging infrastructure in the US to support mass adoption.
The only real way to get adoption of cleaner technologies is to make them better than their carbon generating alternatives in most if not every way. I’m all for getting off of fossil fuels. I’m personally looking for opportunities to push forward better and cleaner energy technologies. Articles like these are just journalistic dunks on the rich. Of course we have to mention Kim K who is the epitome of a wasteful vapid human being who flys around going from lunch to party on her jet. Of 8 billion people there are 1000 who ride planes too much. Never mind that many countries still burn coal for electricity we need to stop these rich folks!!!
I cant drive even a small trip without someone on the road causing extra traffic because their IG or whatever is too important to ignore, but big cars are the problem... OK...
*I think anyone with family history of schizophrenia should avoid weed and probably all intoxicants.
Once I change to a laptop then I’ll shoulder the additional risk and work to have a more open platform.
If this happened to me I’d not call that luck, I would want to know why my tests missed this.
From my perspective I see this as a mixed bag. I don’t think i would want to use the push as a lap device while sitting on the couch. This looks to be about the same dimensions as the push 2. It’s a squareish device that is about 14” or ~35cm wide and tall and about an inch and a half thick. I have and have had several other stand alone devices and they have to be much smaller than the push to tempt me away from my music pc desk.
That said maybe as a desktop device for traveling etc I could see it.
The other thing is that stand alone mode doesn’t allow both “views” in Ableton. One is the linear arrangement view (unavailable in standalone mode) and one is the session view that is more for clip launching and attaching musical phrases to a button on the push grid. This is the view that standalone mode allows. Here is the link to the manual for that https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/session-view/
In my opinion this mode is great for remixing and spinning up new ideas but I typically use live as I would a hardware sampler back in the day. Layer up ideas in arrangement view record everything and then go back and chop. To me, that is what I would rather do on a couch than remix clips.
The hardware running live is adequate but I see why they may have limited the standalone functionality. I run live on an iMac Pro with 32gb ram and the 8core Xeon standard cpu. Live 11 can really tax this machine especially with plugins in the mix. This is the other limitation that I understand but don’t really like. No external plugins. I’m not sure if max will be available but suspect that the built in efx and max live edition will be there(I haven’t watched all the videos yet)
@dubcanada - the push is super cool and can be assigned scales/modes so that the buttons play scales up and down the octave range. Or if it’s controlling a drum machine you get the familiar 16 pad interface x4 You can use it for step sequencing, playing chords with polyphonic expression (also in the push 2 but 3 looks to be improved) or just sit there and launch clips with 1 finger.
As I read what I have written I think I’m going to stick with my push 2 but if you use live and want a push the 3 is the one I would buy today, but probably the upgradable one that acts like push 2. Then I would see if I could upgrade it myself and not with the ableton kit. They hint that it will be.
What has happened is also an unprecedented breach of contract for older artists out there without streaming provisions in their contracts. I only know of a handful of instances where the artists have addressed this but I know of at least 1 example of a major label contract that specifically says “in the case of unforeseen circumstances (streaming, mind beaming, any new unavailable technology) the artist will split the proceeds 50/50. This same artist is not getting 50% of the revenue and is in fact getting the same (awful) deal as everyone else. [0]
What Spotify/Apple Music/Tidal have done is create the same hierarchy that existed in the days of physical media where they pour money into the top1% of artists and have effectively made everyone else much worse off. [1]
Anyone can make and release music today but it was hardly democratized. They same forces in the record industry have figured out how to screw streaming up in their favor now too.

The 200 million subscribers of Spotify are subsidizing things like Joe Rogans 100 million contract and some of the a lister musicians as part of their 360 deal.
The industry wide reduction of real buttons/switches and gauges is something that gives me pause on my next car purchase. I was initially thinking of getting a golf r but the infotainment and steering wheel capacitive buttons are almost universally criticized as really bad and there not being any real way to fix it.
When I saw the yoke I thought it was a concept car and they would come to their senses and use a wheel for production.
My wish list for an electric car: 1) be a dumb car. Minimal screens/animations/annoyances 2) if you do OTA updates I want to be able to reject a version and or revert to any version from any other version of the system software 3) don’t track me or show me ads 4) no feature on the car should require additional or recurring payments to use with very limited exceptions (thinking navigation updates etc) specifically don’t disable something on my car because I don’t pay future moneys for its use. 5) I’m fine with fast but I would rather have a reasonably quick car that pushes 400miles of range without needing a 200kwh battery. I get that big motors also help make big regenerative power but I would like a car that has similar performance to say an Audi s4 or bmw 340m but electric. 6) simple is fine but the model 3 is oversimplified. they really can’t put simple gauges in front of the driver? I feel like every feature of most teslas is built for this looming full self driving where some of these features make more sense. I think the odds today are pretty good that someone who takes delivery today of a new Tesla will send it to the junkyard before fsd really fully self drives. 7) don’t try to drive for me and allow tweaking of things like brake /steering feel, suspension settings.
Still computer software was rapidly eating the Audio hardware market and things like samplers started to seem both redundant and one and the same thing. (Akai s5000 and Z series were basically a pc)
I’m sure it was not an easy call to kill the hardware business for emu/ensoniq but I wish they hadn’t.
