RossDM··on Urql: a GraphQL client library
18% of the Alexa Top 10K sites grew by 1MB+ from July 2017 - July 18. (source: https://twitter.com/katiehempenius/status/113320912700037939...)

Ignoring the impact of libraries you send to the frontend will lead to death by a thousand cuts.

RossDM··on Now dev – Serverless on localhost
hot reloading is standard with Java frameworks such as Spring Boot or Play.
RossDM··on Show HN: ApproveAPI – Real-Time user approvals via email, SMS, and push
Nice, thank you!
RossDM··on Show HN: ApproveAPI – Real-Time user approvals via email, SMS, and push
I like the API documentation formatting; how was this created?
RossDM··on Sublime Text 3.0
Just checked out Requester today - what a fantastic plugin! We use Postman a lot but I can easily see this gaining traction in our office. Great job.
RossDM··on Future Node.js releases will be from the io.js repo
Misleading title, if you read the issue link that drunkcatsdgaf posted (https://github.com/nodejs/node/issues/2327).
RossDM··on Libraries.io – Open-Source Discovery Service
Good idea but doesn't seem entirely accurate.

This project[http://libraries.io/maven/org.bitbucket.b_c:jose4j] was updated last week but Libraries.io says it hasn't been updated since last year.

RossDM··on Realtempo – online rehearsal rooms to make music together in real time
I thought this sort of thing was pretty much impossible due to latency issues.
RossDM··on We Can Do Better
Appreciate the intent, but that contrast is really not good. I wonder what the liability issues would be for assigning random colors to prescriptions. What if two different prescriptions end up having similar colors and go to the same patient?
RossDM··on Call me maybe: Elasticsearch
The gifs are annoying when one is trying to focus on the text and sees movement out of their peripheral vision.
RossDM··on Evernote, the bug-ridden elephant
Funny you should mention the web clipper, as I've been uninstalling it from all my browsers. It kept on inserting half-rendered HTML into random webpages I would visit.
RossDM··on Flamingo for Mac: A Modern Messaging App
Amen. What ever happened to privacy?
RossDM··on Medium Sucks
Since we're complaining about Medium: the font is too big. We may be in the post Web 2.0 era where huge text is more of a norm, but I feel assaulted every time I load a Medium article. The text is not readable without physically changing one's position, or adjusting the browser font size.

And why should I have to fiddle with the font size for one site when I don't have to think about it elsewhere? Are Medium bloggers so arrogant as to think that their revelations deserve to be shouted in my face at 22px?

RossDM··on United States Sentencing Commission website hacked
BR and FONT tags? What kind of markup is this?
RossDM··on Losers exist. Don’t hire them
Sure, we could replace winners and losers with some term like "A players" and "B players." But even judging past success has its flaws; I feel that society as a whole tends to put success, or "winning", on a pedestal. How many great minds have we benefited from who had significant flaws in their time, or went unrecognized?

People are probably a lot more complicated than we think. We try to sort them out into categories as best we can, but we should remember that our understanding of another person's value is limited at best. Calling out people as "losers" because they don't fit your purpose is immature.

RossDM··on Losers exist. Don’t hire them
This whole trend of categorizing people as "winners" or "losers" seems distasteful. What is winning? Favorable circumstances in the present?
RossDM··on 64-bit Firefox discontinued on Windows
Heh, that comment thread pretty much sums it up. Shame to see this happen.
RossDM··on Music Theory for Musicians and Normal People
This is pretty sweet. I wish there was a better way of browsing through all the cheat sheets in some kind of full-screen view.
RossDM··on Show HN: Luunr
Interesting UI - needs better topic discovery, maybe track popular/active/trending topics. Realtime search feed is cool but prone to griefing. Maybe hide scrollbars when not in use?
RossDM··on Facebook Gifts
In reference to OP, it's a matter of thoughtfulness. A Facebook birthday notification happens whether you're thinking of a person or not. At least, if you put it on your calendar, you had to sacrifice some time and energy.

Not to say that you're less thoughtful for using Facebook reminders; it just seems to promote shallow interactions at times.

RossDM··on Facebook Gifts
You were pro-active and took steps to remember the birthdays by sticking them on your calendar. It's different from clicking on a link because Facebook remembered someone's birthday.
RossDM··on Dear 500 Startups. We hacked passes for your passbooks last night.
Similar impression here. What's up with this trend of using 70px font for everything and shouting at the reader? Do designers nowadays have their monitors placed too far away?
RossDM··on Ask HN: I am shutting down. And starting up, again? What do you think?
Are you familiar with Let's Lunch? They do something similar.

RossDM··on RIM promises $10k to devs if BlackBerry 10 app earns $1k
Build $1 app; purchase 1000 copies; profit!
RossDM··on "Flick to tv" represents everything wrong with product design today
Not sure how this relates to the real world experience, but there's a Samsung Phone TV ad that shows a businessman flicking his presentation onto the conference screen.
RossDM··on Sock of the month: Get a pair of socks delivered to you, once a month
Great copy on the front page.
RossDM··on I just left 200 fake parking tickets at YC Demo Day...
It is positive criticism. It takes a matter of seconds to spot these errors. Lighten up.
RossDM··on Think APP.net's Just a Twitter Clone? Then, You're Missing the Point
That's exactly what it is, a Twitter clone. The inspiration is clear from looking at the UI mockups and API. https://github.com/appdotnet/api-spec/blob/master/objects.md

Maybe it will turn into something else someday, but not today.

So where are the affordable Thunderbolt displays? Will they even exist for this generation of tech?
