similar to Elon Musk talking about pretty much everything software. I don't know why he doubled down on having played poe2. https://youtu.be/cZslebJEZbE
RomanAlexander··on Trump Orders National Guard to Washington and Takeover of Capital’s Police
Like illegally using the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport people when the act literally states it's a wartime authority (no new wars). like illegally deporting Abrego Garcia to the one country that he wasn't allowed to be deported to.

RomanAlexander··on Japanese yen weakens to 160 against the USD for the first time since 1990
that's normal for higher end restaurant dining. trying to navigate reservations has always been a pain without concierge.
RomanAlexander··on Japanese yen weakens to 160 against the USD for the first time since 1990
I just flew out right before golden week started. there's a lot more tourists from countries I hadn't seen represented before 2020.
RomanAlexander··on Biden signs TikTok bill into law, starting clock for ByteDance to divest
Do you actually need reasons why a liberal society wouldn't want the largest source Americans receive news from to be run by a wildly illiberal society?
RomanAlexander··on Home insurers are dropping customers based on aerial images
Wouldn't said trampoline simply not be covered by the policy since you lied about it? The agents are checking a box and the underwriter is sticking in a boilerplate "Customer said no trampoline therefore trampolines are excluded from this policy" text
RomanAlexander··on Modern iOS Navigation Patterns
The difference is iOS has non-standard gestures that is determined by the app, and Android it is enforced by the OS. It is infuriating on iOS trying to locate where someone stuffed the back button (is it a hidden pulldown? bottom left? top left? hamburger? breadcrumb trail? does gesture swipe even work here? ...) Much worse than when apps like reddit/tiktok override the back-to-exit behavior in android.
RomanAlexander··on Breakdown of faults by car brand: Tesla has replaced Dacia at the bottom
did they remove the service plan? My Model S came with a 4 year service plan where every quarter they would flush the coolant, filters, etc
RomanAlexander··on Visualizing fighting game mechanics (2020)
That's not true. Geese Howard's pretzel move is very difficult on its own. Even high level players mess up EWGFs. Complicate all this even further by playing in an arcade with a square gate. And not to mention the extreme moves like pentagram input from arcana hearts 3.
RomanAlexander··on Modern iOS Navigation Patterns
Gesture navigation is the standard in android these days. The OS-provided bar isn't even default on budget oppo or Xiaomi devices.

RomanAlexander··on We need more of Richard Stallman's ideas, not less
While that's a cute anecdote, that just means the bid wasn't high enough. QOL for rich people in the USA is at least equal to vastly higher than in the EU.
RomanAlexander··on Reddit Doubles Down
I wonder how long until reddit allows search engine origin to bypass the community locked. my guess is very soon
RomanAlexander··on TikTok is now banned in Montana
Everyone here should know it's very easy to bypass any TLS on a device you control and sniff the traffic. if there was some malicious data being sent there's plenty of people to ring the alarm bells: the people reverse engineering the internal API to make bots, the black hats trying to steal user data, the scrapers stealing content,...
RomanAlexander··on Paper map sales are booming
Made even worse by traveling in a country with a language you can't read. sometimes it shows the native language, zoom in it might show an English transliteration. if you're showing it to a taxi driver it'll definitely not show the native language.
RomanAlexander··on An empirical investigation of personalization factors on TikTok
I wonder if the recommendation engines are different per country. For example in the US, you usually can't be recommended videos from accounts outside the US. Even with a VPN, spoofed geo location, system language, added video language you will be served only mostly videos based on your IMEI.
RomanAlexander··on Satellite finds methane leaks from gas pipelines
It's ironic the cliche you use is contextually moral equivalency, the plank being more morally evil than the spec. Why do you absolutely think no one should be a recipient of moral condemnation given that no one is an angel? Do you think we should never hold people accountable?
RomanAlexander··on Did I just lose half a million dollars?

RomanAlexander··on Biden launches action on "Big Tech, Big Pharma, and Big Ag" – can it be real?
It could easily be the case that without the advertising spend they would not be profitable. Do you think these publicly traded companies are wasting tons of money on advertising? Where is the shareholder outrage?
RomanAlexander··on Show HN: Angular 2 HN – A responsive Hacker News client built with Angular 2
As of now, the page loaded perfectly with no speed issues on a Nexus 6P.
RomanAlexander··on Musk urges Tesla workers to cut costs ahead of fundraising round
They didn't give you a loaner? My Model S brakes were slightly squeaky and Tesla gave me a loaner vehicle to use for the duration of the service.
RomanAlexander··on Ask HN: What level of Python knowledge is required to move on to Django
I started with Django 1.4 as my first web platform, my first time writing HTML, and my first time writing Python for anything more than text manipulation. I consider myself a fairly experienced programmer, so Python wasn't anything shockingly new. It didn't take me long at all to get my first app running, and even now my app has fair bit of traffic per day.

For myself, I found Two Scoops of Django (https://django.2scoops.org/) a great help. I was really satisfied by that purchase.

To answer the title question, my opinion is jumping right into Django regardless of your experience with Python. I don't see the value behind "don't move into frameworks too early", but I may not be as experienced as the gurus of the internet.
