Reptur··on The AI Race Just Got Awkward
Open releases are just the obvious move when you're not the incumbent. You commoditize the thing your competitors charge for and get distribution you could never buy.
Reptur··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
My guess people are more stressed. Gallup has Gen z drinking more spirits. Preferred drink Ages 18–34 Liquor / Spirits 38%, Beer 36%, Wine 24% https://news.gallup.com/poll/713534/americans-drinking-remai...
Reptur··on SQLite Critical CVEs or LLM Slop?
This isn't new due to AI, just amplified.
Reptur··on China begins producing advanced chipmaking deep-ultraviolet lithography machines
True but also catching up to an existing tech is a much different game than creating it from scratch. Hiring people who have the right knowledge can speed that up.
Reptur··on S&P Global has lowered Oracle’s creditworthiness from BBB to BBB-
This site is shady as hell. You try to decline marketing in their pop-up and it hides maybe a 100 providers and expects you to click each one individually.
Reptur··on How Reverse Game Theory Could Solve the Housing Shortage
Liberals*. Leftists don't believe in capitalism and do not solve problems within that framework. They are faux leftists.
Reptur··on Intel Demos Chip to Compute with Encrypted Data
If encrypted outputs can be viewed or used, they can be reverse-engineered through that same interface. FHE shifts the attack surface, it does not eliminate it.
Reptur··on Peerweb: Decentralized website hosting via WebTorrent
Heads up: I left a Peerweb link open overnight (~8 hours) hoping it would load. It consumed ~15GB of memory and triggered an OOM kill, crashing the browser. Browser: LibreWolf (latest) OS: Fedora 43
Reptur··on Using AI to negotiate a $195k hospital bill down to $33k
I also had success, less negotiating, more just helping me form the letters in a few minutes rather than hours so I could get reimbursed for denied coverage, and it did get reimbursed.
Reptur··on Warning: DNS encryption in Little Snitch 6.1 may occasionally fail
Devil's advocate would say: They could do this and make it look like a bug that never gets fixed in order to avoid backlash. How it gets achieved is flexible if the goal is met.
Reptur··on Transparenttextures.com
Would have totally used these back in the Tripod hosting days of the 90s. Cool.
Reptur··on North Dakota voters just approved an age limit for congressional candidates
81 is still too high. Should make it a max of 60.
Reptur··on AI headphones let wearer listen to a single person in a crowd by looking at them
Could be a game changer for people with auditory processing disorder too.
Reptur··on Microsoft's Emissions Spike 29% as AI Gobbles Up Resources
It seems the article forgot to mention that Microsoft is actively pursuing nuclear energy in response, which is a significant omission.
Reptur··on U.S. Rules Apple Illegally Interrogated Staff and Confiscated Union Flyers
Except the concept of “alpha male” was debunked.
Reptur··on Feathers are one of evolution's cleverest inventions
"Discovery" fits since we're just uncovering what's already there, not creating it. "Invention" is for stuff we actually make. Unsure if just a mistake or creationist perspective in the article.
Reptur··on Bruno: Fast and Git-friendly open-source API client (Postman alternative)
100%, its awesome. Link for those interested: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=humao.re...
Reptur··on Bluesky announces data federation for self hosters
Agreed, not to mention phone numbers can easily be used by entities to ID anyone's account which has a chilling effect on freedom of expression.
Reptur··on Crime rings trafficking sand
Somewhat related, these people are turning glass to sand from recycled bottles.

Reptur··on Brave browser simplifies its fingerprinting protections
What I don't understand is, why can't we just have a browser that doesn't give any of those details that is used to determine unique a browser. It doesn't make sense to allow a website to have access to that info.
Reptur··on Show HN: Open source alternative to ChatGPT and ChatPDF-like AI tools
I tend to just select all the files and then paste their filenames into a Chat AI and tell it to write mv commands to rename them however I need. May be more complicated if you need it to open the PDF to get content for the rename though.
Reptur··on Shopify Ruby on Rails distributed monolith runs 19M queries per second on MySQL
It can't loop arrays with indices from a variable for one. Its basically a 90s scripting language that has had no growth.
Reptur··on Sam Altman returns as CEO, OpenAI has a new initial board
Makes me curious if the reason behind that is just an NDA.
Reptur··on Shopify Ruby on Rails distributed monolith runs 19M queries per second on MySQL
They may be bragging about that, but they still make people use Liquid and tell their customers that features were released when they're in beta for another 3-6 months.
Reptur··on Bayer hit with $332M judgement in Roundup cancer trial
Thank you for pointing that out. So profit their 2022 32.523B [1]. 32.5 billion in profit dwarfs a 332 million settlement. You have made my point only stronger.

Reptur··on Bayer hit with $332M judgement in Roundup cancer trial
If we're sharing thoughts, I need to point out that once you hit your late 60s, you're more likely to get cancer, and your risk keeps going up [1]. Our food is loaded with chemicals that can make you sick or even cause cancer [2]. That age is also when people usually retire and are no longer "productive".

Here's where I might lose you. In our country, illness is a way to make money [3]. If you're really sick and trying to stay alive, you'll spend everything you've got. So the quickest way to turn people's savings into profit while also reducing the population of non-productive people is for them to fall ill, pay as much as they can to survive and then ultimately die an early death, which triggers a death tax event [4].

Doubt they even blinked, these companies hire people to calculate risk and so they can continue to get away with it. Just a cost of business. Bayer's gross revenue for just 2022 was 53.4B. https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/BAYRY/bayer/revenu...
Reptur··on Appeals court denies judicial immunity to judge who personally searched home
Of course, people with no consequences will do horrible things. Looks like its dead in the water though, it was introduced on 03/01/2021 and then nothing. Congress understands without cops that are immune, they cannot do terrible things with impunity. Immune cops are the foundation of an authoritarian government.
Reptur··on iLeakage: Browser-Based Timerless Speculative Execution Attacks on Apple Devices
In think its plausible that hosting it yourself ensures that companies can't exert pressure to have it removed.

horizontal: Auto-resizes horizontally based on content.

vertical: Auto-resizes vertically based on content.

both: Auto-resizes both horizontally and vertically based on content.

Usage:

      auto-resize: vertical;
  }

  input {
      auto-resize: both;
  }
