RealStickman_··on OpenTF is now OpenTofu
There are plenty of examples of terraforming going/having gone wrong or being abandoned. My first associations are Snowpiercer (overdoing the fight against climate change) and Stellaris (abandoned machinery on planets).
RealStickman_··on NixOS Wiki – the unofficial user wiki
I maintain multiple packages on the AUR and PKGBUILDs are pretty easy to understand imo. I only had a look at one or two Nix package builds and they seemed much more complex to me.
RealStickman_··on VSCode Removes Twitter Integration
Thst wouldn't be too hilarious actually. Browsers/Electron already support screen sharing so it shouldn't be too difficult to add in VSCode.
RealStickman_··on FCC refuses to scrap rule requiring ISPs to list every monthly fee
So that's (part of the reason) why booking was so relatively painless for my recent holidays. Another thing to thank the EU for.
RealStickman_··on Docker Is Four Things
Looks like breaking Windows is a feature now, going by the last comments in that issue.
RealStickman_··on OpenTF announces fork of Terraform
A year ago most people probably wouldn't have known or cared about a small new fork and I don't think it would have gotten the community support OpenTF has now.
RealStickman_··on I only lost 10 minutes of data, thanks to ZFS
Alternatively, you can also buy your drives a few months apart to get different batches, most likely.
RealStickman_··on Don't use Control Center to turn off Bluetooth on iPhone
I'd think having wifi turned off while mobile services are on is very common when on the go.
RealStickman_··on VirGL – A virtual 3D GPU for use inside QEMU virtual machines
They might support IOMMU, but the default groups can be very annoying to work with so you have to use a patched kernel as well that "ignores" the actual groups.
RealStickman_··on What's your go to Nix/NixOS pitch?
Not sure about those two you mentioned but Ansible as a similar tool does not have state. It needs to run every command and check what changed. Nix, from my understanding, does have state so it can be more efficient.
RealStickman_··on Fedora Asahi Remix first impressions
Fedora contributors are the ones maintaining the packages and they might have more work now if something breaks on the M1. This only "helps" Red Hat in that they can get more testing on ARM.
RealStickman_··on Linux guide for power users (2022)
The package delays also apply to security updates btw. There's no procedure to get them in faster.

Ironically, on mobile Manjaro has shipped unstable and WIP patches, leading to issues and annoyed maintainers [0]

RealStickman_··on Linux has nearly half of the desktop OS Linux market
No, that would exclude Alpine and I don't know any purist claiming that Alpine isn't Linux.
RealStickman_··on From CentOS to OpenSUSE Leap: How to Feel at Home
It's possbile to setup a keyfile in your boot partition to decrypt your root partition so you only have to enter a password once. But this really shouldn't be necessary.
RealStickman_··on The Anti-Ownership eBook Economy
I didn't know Tolino offered DRM-free ebooks, will definitely have to check them out. (According to the FAQ there are some Adobe protected ebooks, but that's rare)

I have to buy through one of the bookstores, right?

RealStickman_··on Mastodon has hit 2M active users today
From what I heard mastodon.social is rather lacking in moderation and therefor limited by lots of other instances.

I went for fosstodon.org, as I think this suits my interests well enough, but there are other general or broad topic instances out there.

RealStickman_··on Ask HN: Anyone Building a Competitor to Reddit?
> I believe the .ML stands for Marxist Leninist

According to the link you posted, I think you're talkong about lemmygrad.ml. lemmy.ml is hosted by the original Lemmy developers.

RealStickman_··on Lead Developer Leaves GrapheneOS Due to Harassment Including Swatting
That guy made a video about Techlore's video 8 months ago and didn't even watch the original video fully. I wouldn't trust his opinion.
RealStickman_··on Aurora Store Accounts Blocked by Google
Ok, but this statement is still true:

> Google's Play Store is the only source for a number of proprietary applications

RealStickman_··on Daniel Micay publicly steps down from GrapheneOS
I've only just dived a bit into the saga, though mostly on the Louis and Techlore side. Both of them have proof of negative behaviour by Micay, while one defense I found had basically no proof of Micay being harassed.

So, my question, do you have concrete proof about Micay being harassed? Screenshot, links, whatever can back up Micay's words.

RealStickman_··on Stepping down as project leader of GrapheneOS
I went down that rabbit hole yesterday, so I think I can offer some context.

First I started with Louis Rossmann's video. Basically, Louis left a single line comment below a 2 year old Techlore video discussing harassment of CalyxOS and random users by Daniel Micay. Because of this one comment, Micay accused Louis of being partially responsible for swatting attacks on Micay and harassment. You can see the chat in Louis' video.

Next I decided to watch the Techlore video to get a more complete understanding. After all, it could still just be Micay strongly disliking Louis for some reason. In his video Techlore then shows multiple examples of harassment by Micay targeted at CalyxOS and random users. All examples I heard him mention are backed up with chat logs in the video.

Lastly I watched a rebuttal to Techlore's video by Tom Sparks. Howerver it was obvious he had not actually watched the whole Techlore video and Sparks also mentioned that in his rebuttal. The focus of Spark's video was mainly on the chapter on targeting various companies from Techlore's video. With that focus Sparks basically dismissed Techlore's whole video and also accused Techlore of encouraging harassment of GrapheneOS without any proof at all!

Obviously there are always single individuals in any group that harass others. Here howerver, Louis and Techlore showed up with concrete proof of inacceptable behaviour and harassment while Micay only presents himself as a victim without proof of the harassment he is alleging of others.

RealStickman_··on Aurora Store Accounts Blocked by Google
Maybe you're confused about the client and server parts.

The client for Google Play Store can be replaced by other apps like the one you linked. Though this is against Google's TOS.

The server part of Google Play Store is where all the applications live. It is the biggest app repository for Android and most commercial apps are uploaded there. What the GP is advocating for is having developers upload their app to other app repositories in addition to the Play Store.

RealStickman_··on Nginx 1.25.0: experimental HTTP/3 support
Access to some external sites might be necessary in some cases. They still have to monitor such connections.
RealStickman_··on Minix development has been abandoned?
And the other hand I often hear people complain about out of touch politicians regulating fields where they completely lack any understanding.
RealStickman_··on “PayPal forcing me to have a cellphone to access my account”
Minimum Viable Pawn
RealStickman_··on Google keeps failing its Nest customers
There's an xkcd for everything, but only 5 or so are linked regularly.
RealStickman_··on GitHub is down
Good planning and monitoring will also prevent the last point from becoming a problem.
RealStickman_··on Framework Laptop Cupholder Expansion Card
A table, by definition, is a surface upon which a cup can be placed. A cup holder on the other hand envelops the cup and prevents any sliding movement. This makes a cup holder ideal in moving vehicles.
RealStickman_··on Intel to drop the “I” moniker in upcoming CPU rebrand
An 01-A part should have the performance of a 02-B part while being less efficient.
RealStickman_··on Thinking about our passive exposure to IPv6 issues
A real pain point with IPv6 is being unable to make subnets smaller than /64. So much wasted space and hassle to get more than one network going.
