RandVal30142··on NextDoor Says Users Who Share Posts with Reporters Could Be Kicked Off the Site
I still feel like people havent figured out this internet thing.

If I want to report on a post by say some scrubby Islamic State propagandist I'm going to do it. They can ban me but it will just become part of the reporting. Then give me a few minutes and I'll be back on the site doing my thing again.

Terrible terms of service don't make a private garden. Neither does IP/phone number fingerprinting. I agree with you though, it is not that complicated.

>don't report on posts

Make me.

RandVal30142··on Cypherpunk Desert Bus: My Role in the 2016 Zcash Trusted Setup Ceremony
>the trusted setup can only be used to create fake Zcash, not deanonymize transactions.

"I think we can successfully make Zcash too traceable for criminals like WannaCry, but still completely private & fungible"

"I _don't_ mean weakening security (https://z.cash/support/faq.html#backdoor …). I mean that a secure protocol layer is compatible with good law enforcement." -zooko

Not sure how your statements carry water in the face of that comment.

Who are you talking to?

RandVal30142··on NextDoor Says Users Who Share Posts with Reporters Could Be Kicked Off the Site
>You’re just not free to keep using the site afterwards.

Bring me to court about that one.

RandVal30142··on Is Zcash’s encrypted blockchain Satoshi’s vision?
Zcash takes one of the only novel parts of Bitcoin, not requiring trust in a central authority, and pitches it into the garbage.

The garbage is likely where Zcash belongs.

RandVal30142··on EPA photos show what US looked like before pollution regulation
>Do they?

Trump did run pandering to conservative wishes to defund the EPA. Trump won and is defunding the EPA. So yes.

> Or do they want to reduce some of the more obscure, less clearly useful regulations?

So obscure they involve the primary budget for the office and the main regulations enacted by them during Obama's time.

RandVal30142··on EPA photos show what US looked like before pollution regulation
> you pretended that nobody wanted them

Who was I commenting to? You or the user whose post my comment showed up under?

> So let's have all those examples

But that is not what you asked for. Try again, smarter not harder.

RandVal30142··on EPA photos show what US looked like before pollution regulation
>I'd also like a concise description that indicates how the changes will roll the US back to the intense pollution problems that existed 30+ years ago.

Why would I alter my comment to be in tune with what you want when I was responding to this:

>Exactly what environmental protection is Trump rolling back?

RandVal30142··on EPA photos show what US looked like before pollution regulation
No just pointing out you are creating a false narrative.

>There are many thousands of regulations. They don't all make sense. They're not all necessary.

"Soooo many regulations, we couldn't possibly need all of these. Ignore the specific few discussed here lets make it about allllll these redundant regulations."

Not very smooth.

RandVal30142··on EPA photos show what US looked like before pollution regulation

You're making up a false narrative.

edit: No? One example was enough? But I had so much more. :(

RandVal30142··on Bitcoin.org to denounce “Segwit2x”
>Bitcoin.org is controlled by the same people and should not be taken as any sort of an authority.

Not sure if many people here are aware, but r/Bitcoin mod Theymos and others in the Core/Blockstream circle proposed and supported editing Satoshi's bitcoin whitepaper[1].

They did this under the reasoning that they control the bitcoin.org domain where it has been historical hosted and want to treat it as a living document. Obviously people didn't like this but the issue has not been resolved, it was only put "On Hold."

RandVal30142··on Russian Hackers Stole NSA Data on U.S. Cyber Defense
>How about you address the similarities

Because it diverts the topic. It is literally introducing the fallacy seen in "And you are lynching Negroes[1]" to avoid the subject. Because of people like you we cannot discuss being victimized today because of deeds in the past made by unrelated entities.

RandVal30142··on Bitcoin.org to denounce “Segwit2x”
> the consensus

The consensus for bitcoin is made within the network itself. Not on a mentally unstable person's poll.

Luke-jr, aka the Blockstream coder/troll who has used his pool to maliciously kill other cryptocoins[1], made that poll based on Coinbase KYC info. That polling platform only has use within a tiny segment of Bitcoin users that trust Luke after his abhorrent actions and those that are also on Coinbase with verified accounts.

That is not consensus at all. Bitcoin as it turns out has mechanics for building and signalling consensus but Blockstream & co have been pounding sand trying to subvert it for years now.

Here is an enlightening thread on the type of awful actions Blockstream/Core has been up to regarding 2x and signals to support it among the Bitcoin community. Matt, Drak and the other Blockstream/Core thugs spend their time screaming at people on reddit/twitter while inventing lies[2] that necessitate being called out by their victims[3].

RandVal30142··on Russian Hackers Stole NSA Data on U.S. Cyber Defense
>same can be said for US actions over the past decades

Is this really the best response? A deflection? Do you know how tiring it gets? How little it advances discussion?

My peers are being hunted for documenting war crimes but OK US did similar stuff some decades ago so I guess the topic is resolved for good. Wrapped up nicely with a bow for eternity.

RandVal30142··on Russian Hackers Stole NSA Data on U.S. Cyber Defense
>And I feel lately that they are now trying to build a case for some sort of conflict, presumably cold, against Russia.

Russia invaded Ukraine & Crimea, ended up downing a civilian airliner killing them all.

Slaughtered hospital workers in Syria after following victims of regime chemical weapons attack to the facilities.

Has been funneling heavy weapons like T90 tanks into sub-state militias, including the designated terrorist org Hezbollah.

Is currently attacking people who have documented all of this, regardless of what nation they live in. Has attempted to get Canada to take down and expose citizens using their services to publicize Russia's actions.

What will it take to get you to understand Russia is at war with the world? Does another civilian airliner need to be downed? Should another analyst/journalist get kidnapped and brought into Russia to be disappeared?

What is your threshold of acknowledgement here?

I assert Apple's markup on products is not fair or reasonable. Perhaps Qualcomm's demands are in line with the true value of the device and not the pie in the sky numbers Apple wants.

>I hope you aren't suggesting selling people a broken firearm.

Nah, more like disabling them so I can mount them up on a wall as a showpiece. I honestly never contemplated that route until after I sold them.

RandVal30142··on Nine Rounds a Second: Why the Las Vegas Shooting Was Different
>Because any of these law-abiding refugees

Taking your garbage edit of the parent comment and setting it totally aside:

Legal firearms routinely become illegal, most often when they are stolen by people who are already criminals. Unlocked cars are a great source of 'legal' pistols as it turns out.

The problem of small arms proliferation is real and it is one of the reasons U.S. and other modern nations regulate them so much.

RandVal30142··on Nine Rounds a Second: Why the Las Vegas Shooting Was Different
>a socially accepted use of these weapons in the US

No it isn't. Homes in the U.S. are primarily built of wood, rifles can and will produce a tremendous amount of over penetration in such "self defense" scenarios.

The idea of some idiot who cannot comprehend ballistics in an emotional panic lacing up my neighborhood with a 30rd mag fed rifle is terrifying. Take some self defense courses please.

RandVal30142··on Nine Rounds a Second: Why the Las Vegas Shooting Was Different
I know, but I don't know.

It is obviously my duty to deescalate & inhibit violence in my community when possible, while restricting people's avenues to tools that multiply the potential damage they can inflict.

This is why we have mental health care and regulations for buying explosives.

The best I could figure with my firearms at the time was selling them to the most responsible party possible, in my case it was gunsmiths. Recently some criminals attempted to break into their shop. Didn't get away with anything. So my choice already yielded measurable results in a way.

I'm not responsible people's heinous acts, but I am responsible for the environment people choose to act in.

RandVal30142··on Nine Rounds a Second: Why the Las Vegas Shooting Was Different
Selling my Romanian AK-47 and other firearms obtained through purchase or inheritance felt great.

Since then there has been several mass casualty shootings in the states.

Wish I burned them now.

edit:

I didn't get rid of my collection over any huge reason, just didn't want the liability sitting around home when I haven't gone shooting in years. That said I feel like I've made a critical mistake in yielding my arms to people who would likely be less responsible than I during my ownership.

For anyone in the same position remember you can disable most firearms pretty easily by kludging a part or two. Hopefully will save someone that nagging feeling I have.

RandVal30142··on Catalan referendum: preliminary results show 90% in favour of independence
I dare beating firemen for voting is more illegal than holding a vote itself, let alone attending/partaking in it. The use of violence by the state forfeits such claims and opens up an avenue for reciprocation by others, which is a terrible thing to enable all due to a vote.

>that constitution doesn't hold weight in real life

We will see what carries more weight, violence or paper.
