Yeah I feel very civilized, affluent, and Western when I walk into a McDonalds.
I feel the most protected as a consumer when I don't get shocked plugging something in.
It may not be scientifically 100% "perfect" but why wouldn't it be "close enough"?
Then no matter whether you go to get your daily Two Minutes Hate in, all you see is NETFLIX NETFLIX NETFLIX NETFLIX NETFLIX everywhere.
I'd really like to see a breakdown by major and institution. I don't think going and getting just any 4 year degree is going to make you a success.
But OP is letting them live. Unless you are alleging OP is running around killing trans people??
Judges don't strike me as particularly nonpartisan these days...
Does holding freedom of speech as an ideal mean you must never dislike anything or tell anyone else that you dislike it? Is Elon giving orders to Disney+ about what they can and can't show? Is he going to ban Disney from using Twitter now because two guys kissed in a cartoon?
> and want that stuff censored off the airs.
There is indeed censorship of broadcast media but it long predates Elon or Twitter and it's done by the FCC.
> And then want to ban the book "Maus", etc. etc.
Removing a book from the curriculum and replacing it with another book that teaches pretty much the same thing is hardly "banning" it. Did students face disciplinary action or criminal charges for possessing a copy of Maus on school grounds? Did parents who bought a copy for their kids get a visit from the sheriff? Was Amazon ordered to stop selling it?
It's ridiculous. If you think about it almost all books are similarly "banned" as there are countless possible books you could have kids read and very limited time and space on the curriculum. We had the Pearson algebra textbook in high school so I guess that means the McGraw-Hill one was "banned".
Wasn't a war for independence in which widespread civilian firearm ownership played a part in winning also kind of contemporaneous with the Bill of Rights?
> They are like the water supply, to the restaurant.
Even actual water companies get overvalued. Just look at American Water Works or Essential Utilities Inc stock.
It was already possible before November 2021 to turn off the publicly visible like/dislike count on any video (getting essentially what we have now) and many big brands did exactly that.
1) It's a private company, they can refuse service to anyone for any reason - this is spelled out in the TOS:
> If we believe you are abusing eBay and/or our Services in any way, we may, in our sole discretion and without limiting other remedies, limit, suspend, or terminate your user account(s) and access to our Services, delay or remove hosted content, remove any special status associated with your account(s), remove, not display, and/or demote listings, reduce or eliminate any discounts, and take technical and/or legal steps to prevent you from using our Services.
> Additionally, we reserve the right to refuse, modify, or terminate all or part of our Services to anyone for any reason at our discretion.
2) There is a mandatory arbitration clause in the TOS so you can't take them to court.
> You and eBay each agree that any and all disputes or claims that have arisen, or may arise, between you and eBay (or any related third parties) that relate in any way to or arise out of this or previous versions of the User Agreement, your use of or access to our Services, the actions of eBay or its agents, or any products or services sold, offered, or purchased through our Services shall be resolved exclusively through final and binding arbitration, rather than in court.
I don't like it but that's how it is. For some reason no one - right, left or center - seems interested in regulating these things.
I'm guessing we will see something like CAFE standards for EVs when they become a majority of the market. Maybe they'll call it CAKE (Corporate Average Kilowatt-hour Economy). The same people now complaining about carbon emissions from ICE trucks will in the future complain about the appalling electricity consumption of electric trucks.
I really don't see the climate activist people saying "our work here is done, let's pack up and go home!" when the last ICE vehicle rolls off the assembly line. The battle lines will just shift and the Cybertruck/F150 Lightning/Hummer EV/Rivian R1T will become as reviled as their internal combustion counterparts are today.
I'd much rather spend half as much on gas, make much smaller payments and then just pay U-Haul $100 or so for the one or two days a year I might need one (plus you can rent a much larger truck than a Silverado/F-150). So I drive a subcompact hatchback and rent a truck if/when I need one.
It's not even for the environment either. I just don't like sitting up high and I find large vehicles difficult to park and maneuver.
Amendments themselves can be struck down by later amendments (see 18th vs 21st amendment).
It's a shame that Republicans have totally dominated California politics since ReadyReturn got vetoed. It's like Texas on the west coast.
Weren't much the same things said about gold pre-Bitcoin?
I see two likely outcomes here:
1) The leaker is not publicly identified and their career goes along as well as it would have had they not leaked.
2) The leaker is identified. They lose their clerkship but the leak will end up pleasing about half the country and they get a really nice job with some ideologically aligned law firm/NGO, a book deal, and a lucrative speaking career as the one who bravely risked their job to save the right to abortion.
Sadly we broke that a long time ago and Humpty Dumpty isn't going back together again.
Is this a common problem? I only use wired trackballs but I notice other major brands of rechargeable wireless mice don't seem to care whether you use them plugged in or not.
What I think would have been better would be to put the charging port on the back instead of the bottom so you can still use it if you absolutely need to while charging but it's just awkward and uncomfortable enough to discourage doing so on a regular basis.
The natives never fought amongst themselves for resources or territory? No victorious tribes ever enslaved or murdered their defeated foes?
This whole idea of conflicts between ethnicity and tribes and nations, master-and-slave and hierarchical societies is just some weird European pathology that, like smallpox, was unknown in the Americas pre-1492?
