ORioN63··on Toyota Investing $500M in Uber in Driverless Car Pact
I am actually stunned how there was no displacement of the current input devices.

We fitted keyboard onto our screens, AR devices normally come with a joystick or something.

I have high hopes for similar projects to Tap Keyboard or the Myo armband, that continue to evolve on something that IMO has large implications on how we can evolve as a society the same way smartphones did. A wearable input device that was _good_ (defined by not being cumbersome, probably even fashionable and functional, as should match current input) would be for me the extra step .

Most cars being released come with a variety of sensors, a number that feels to be ever increasing. Data doesn't need to come from AI.

`my` gives away perl

infinite symbol gives away 6

So, yeah. Correct me if I'm wrong.

ORioN63··on The Hardest Program I've Ever Written (2015)
You could, but in reality it won't work very well due to recursive rules.
ORioN63··on Living APIs and the Case for GraphQL
Those were actually very good points, specially the interaction between client / server being better understood due to the queries being made per purpose and not just trying to obey one of many REST conventions that the server provides.
ORioN63··on The Decline of the MacBook Pro
Minor nitpick:

You're probably already using a WM (unless you're in tty all the time). Gnome, KDE, MATE are all WM (and more).

ORioN63··on The metrics behind Spotify’s IPO
I find good music on `Discover Weekly`. Why are suggestions idiotic?

It has beta support for widgets now, if you still looking.
ORioN63··on Ask HN: My company plans an ICO despite my opposition as CTO, any advice?
#1, #2, #3 change state. #4 is no-op.
ORioN63··on Bayesian analysis of ego-depletion studies favours null hypothesis
I agree with momentum. I've been using the anology for years.

There are only so many points in life where it changes direction. Most of the time is doing what you did the past months/years, whatever is staying home getting drunk or working non-stop. Sure you can change direction, but it's not easy to fight inertia. You gotta apply some force to change direction!

ORioN63··on Review: Copperhead OS
KISS. I love it. It's a input bar. You get the history when you click on it. It's common to find whatever you want to do here. You also get favorite apps bar. You can search contacts, wikipedia, shortcuts (awesome with http post shortcuts or chrome webpages shortcuts). Contacts have a sms/call button on the side and they also appear on the history list. I use it on all my phones. It's lightweight, open source and half my friends don't know how to use my phone.

TCC is faster. It's on the comments of hello.c
ORioN63··on What it feels like to be in the zone as a programmer
I do that thing, where I just start coding from scratch.

Example: When programming in haskell, I just write the types (not always) and undefined most things and only then I start implementing. Whenever I make a new function, it gets composed by a bunch of other functions that are not yet implemented (undefined's) and eventually this converges.

Refactoring is then based on equality principles in my head. Yeah, it fails sometimes, but that's why pure functions and type safety feels so important sometimes.

ORioN63··on Why Type Systems Matter
Oops. I still use undefined everywhere, while my code isn't complete.

Also, typed holes. Typed holes are awesome for building implementations based on types.

ORioN63··on Launch HN: Plasticity (YC S17) – APIs for human-like natural language interfaces
I also tried things like:

How old is the French Prime-Minister? How old is the Portuguese President?

President always defaults to Trump and Prime-Minister to May (May also responds with two different results even though it show the same text(/source?). Also in Sapien "Prime-Minister" wasn't recognized.

I'm very excited about technologies like this one.

ORioN63··on Optimy.io: Optimise mathematical expressions
Translation:

That's a linguistic question, not a mathematics one.

In Portuguese there's a very small difference between "differentiable" and "derivable" (in the context of Math Analysis), but I don't recall it.

English being a mutable language, may end up absorbing the difference between nomenclatures in that way (??): derivable x differentiable.

ORioN63··on Paul Allen's new rocket-launching plane
No. We already know that the planet will undergo drastic changes in the next 100 years.
ORioN63··on Noun Project – Icons for Everything
It's about learning the environment.

You already know the meaning of the browser icons as well as you know traffic signs. On the other hand on a unknown setting, like a newly installed app, an icon can represent too many things for a person to guess which is the real semantic of the icon in question.

ORioN63··on Show HN: TorrentPeek – Distributed search engines using BitTorrent and SQLite
I'm guessing, since the DB is just a torrent, you can check if it's complete. In fact if you check the gif in the post, you can see after the DB's name, it shows how much % it downloaded. So, there's your answer. When you get to 3 digits, you could be sure that no new results are going to show up.

(I think...)

ORioN63··on Sleep Is the New Status Symbol
I honestly feel worthless in a hangover. It has (almost) sucessfully made me stop drinking.
ORioN63··on Amper raises $4M to use AI to write music
I think you nailed it.

The real utopia here is putting your headphones and listening to appropriate and good music.

Music responding to gaming, sports, chill, on-the-train, falling asleep, without user input would be pretty cool.
