Where in the world is Carmen Sandi’s ego?
I’ve built a bunch of these systems, keeping your data separate solves a lot of future problems.
People also understand that "correctness" is often subjective and not boolean in nature, so insisting their opinion is in all ways the most correct would be silly.
Because nobody here is talking about lifting the sanctions to please Russia, Russia would have to stop invading Ukraine, which is explicitly not "Appeasement"[0] considering they're the aggressor and the ones creating the conflict.
The only way you could see Russia as not the aggressor here is if you think Russia is justified in its invasion of Ukraine...
In your mind, how justified is Russia in this conflict?
This is false. It requires a willingness from Russia to stop invading Ukraine. What you're writing here is appeasement, and it it's a very bad idea both generally and specifically with regards to global economic stability.
That's very you specific, not really related to your age, other than that it took you until your 30s to find that equilibrium.
There's nothing at all written down anywhere that ensures such an equilibrium for everyone, however. Especially for folks who represent a minority in their society, life is a lot more threatening and a lot less controllable for them, typically.
For some, that equilibrium may never come, and while that doesn't invalidate your experience, it certainly doesn't support the idea that "you'll calm down when you're older".
I've chosen the job I have now specifically because I wanted to be able to do something about things I see that could be going wrong. Anyone can do this, but especially smart people.
Russia can end this tomorrow, by withdrawing from Ukraine.
You probably didn’t mean to imply anything, but it’s a sensitive topic, semantics matter.
If I started writing literal daily notes to my wife, she’d be very concerned something was wrong. Then she’d ask why I’m wasting my time writing a note when I could have done… literally annoying else more productive lol
You should know better!
Satire is fun! And I think the folks taking the math seriously are probably in on the joke.
[0] or whatever brand of comedy “imagine a cow approximates to an oblong sphere” is. “This is strictly satire” is not a hill I must die on.
Given:
1) Terraform uses Semantic Versioning [0]
2) Semantic Versioning specifically states that 0.x APIs are not stable [1]
Therefore:
Your complaint that a 0.x versioned tool wasn't stable is not valid.
Conjecture:
Your complaint exists as an excuse to remain ignorant of a new tool or technology simply because it is new. This makes you a luddite. [2]
[0] https://www.terraform.io/plugin/sdkv2/best-practices/version...
In no way is your complaint valid for a technology that hadn't even been released yet, and you should know that.
And a "luddite" is just "a person opposed to new technology or ways of working." How many servers you do or don't manage is totally irrelevant to that. Terraform is new, you dislike it because it's new (my guess), therefore you are a luddite.
Did you think I was claiming you belonged to the group of 19th century English mill workers who destroyed factory machinery to protest those machines taking your job?
Approximately 2007 (the year HN was created).
I wouldn't really call that feedback, just a luddite-esque bias on your part.
I'm pattern matching your "feedback" as "New thing scary, don't use!"
This is 100% a "you" problem if you can't figure out how to get value out of a daily standup, and whoever is leading your agile effort should be helping you.
Honestly I'm tired of people like you getting a pass, which you've clearly become accustomed to, but this one is so basic, so easy to do correctly, and so easy to extract value out of, you must actively be fighting the system in order to struggle at this point.
You literally go through a list of in-progress items, and people say, in a sentence or two, how they've moved that work forward and any issues they've encountered. Other people listen, and chime in if they can help, and stay quiet if they can't. It's dirt simple, and isn't replaced with async anything, as a) it's very quick and costs extremely little and b) there's no other way to know if what you're working on is relevant to other folks or not.
They're for the developers to keep in sync. For tiny teams (1-2 developers) that's trivial and doesn't need a shared conversation. For 3+ people to try and keep in sync, it's easier if they all get together.
Sure, they can stay in sync other ways, but it's more likely that you lose productivity to people de-doing work, having trouble integrating, and losing out on developer experience when someone takes on a new problem.
The real red flag here is that your team doesn't want to talk to one another on a daily cadence. Sounds like a team that isn't really a team, to me, just a bunch of individual developers being managed by the same person.
Teams >>> individuals, every time.
You don’t want to communicate on a daily cadence because the communication costs you more than you get out of it. That’s a problem. You should be demanding a daily standup, not running from it.
Be listening to what other people say! See if you can remove or prevent a problem they mention.
Say things that matter to others! Give people a shot at clearing your path/making your life easier.
If you don’t want a daily standup it’s because you don’t trust your team to be able to help you (or you don’t want to help your team), and that’s a highly solvable problem.
