I have a pixel but i don't have qr scanning built in to the camera. It was at one point built into the "google vision" thing, but i haven't seen it in the ui for a while.
ok let me clarify. It is really not a good idea to give your password out on the internet, even if the person says they are an employee. When I worked at a company handling user data they had strict rules around this because employees had to be accountable for what user data they looked at and how that data was handled. Someone could use your password, do something harmful, and then blame it on you. It would be hard to prove innocence.
What if the person is using an Android phone connected to a monitor? As someone said in another thread: you design a view for a screen size not a device.
I disagree. In a pandemic it's important to get solid and clear information to the population. If you start saying things that don't go through the proper channels to be verified as reasonably true, then you create massive confusion when you potentially have to go back on that information. Scientists can and do make mistakes. A lay person might not understand what "preprint" or "not peer reviewed" mean yet this article is on the BBC which the average lay person does trust as a source for reasonably true information.
You are looking at it merely from a percentage point of view. 1.24% at Facebook's scale is _massive_. It is not a drop in the bucket, and Facebook is especially worried because it could be a trend. Today it's 1.24% but how many people would switch tommorow?
I disagree. This is an extremely important feature. If something happens to me, I wouldn't want my family to have to jump through insane hoops to get access to my accounts for a bit of extra theoretical security. At this point something traumatic has already happened to them and this would just be another emotion burden. This could be for financial reasons, or say if I were missing, to communicate with my friends.
Let people who don't need it and don't want it turn it off, but for me I'd definitely have it on.
But there are some suspicious looking numbers and events that happened. I personally don't believe that they are true, but why not just investigate them? People distrust dominion voting systems; Just allow a bipartisan audit. People think certain votes were counted without both parties present; just recount those votes. Where is the harm in just being absolutely sure of things? If you just shut down people because there is no absolutely solid, undisputed evidence, they just think you are hiding something.
Everyone knows the Pulseaudio backdoor to gain root access can be activated by playing "Party in the CIA" by Werid Al, yelling George Washington's name 6 times and then typing in a valid .gov email.
Someone on HN called it before this broke. Governments are quick to blame "state-sponsored actors" to cover up for their own flawed security practices.
The idea that sending information about the cert is somehow not exposing the app is crazy. An attacker could easily download apps and sniff the network traffic to correlate cert info with an app.
Also i don't get the argument for using HTTP. Aren't these two separate systems?
The point isn't that nobody will have reduced packaging, the point is some people have reduced packaging. I'm not saying it's not a way for Apple to get PR points + save some money (that's exactly what it is). Your argument would mean it's pointless to buy a BMW electric car because they sell other cars that aren't. At Apple's scale, the reduction in packaging for a large chunk of consumers might acctually do something for the environment (and Tim Cook's pockets).
Purism seems cool if you are into that sort of thing. If you want a more mainstream Windows/Linux laptop go with the Dell XPS. (It has good Linux support because there is a version with Ubuntu preinstalled). The new Mac pro is also quite good.
Not surprising, they don't want to have the Cambridge Analytica scandal happening again. Yes it's a very different thing, but the general populus and old beuracrats in Washington aren't really going to understand that.
This. Google has a major advantage in that they have a massive dataset. They can use their data to improve the cost function even in real time to detect traffic.
