NTripleOne··on Google’s native ad blocker for Chrome shows up in Android developer build
Maybe it's a little different depending on your creator status, who you're partnered with, etc - but from my experience of monetising videos, there is very little control over the ads, for example, here's what I see when I choose to monetise a video.

Excuse the dark theme, it makes the checks a little hard to see.

NTripleOne··on Google’s native ad blocker for Chrome shows up in Android developer build
Yeah, firefox has been a pretty abysmal experience for me on android, it's slow, scrolling is janky, it crashes almost every time I try to use it... it's just been a bad experience all around.
NTripleOne··on The R. Kelly ‘cult’ story and the ‘Gawker Effect’
I'll be honest, the only R. Kelly cult story I care about is Trapped in the Closet - seriously, even if that's not your scene, watch it, you won't regret it.

I think currently it stands at about 3-4 hours of comedy gold, whether it's intended to be or not is another subject entirely...

NTripleOne··on New diesel and petrol vehicles to be banned from 2040 in UK
Lucky you. We lost one of our major bus providers in Cornwall a few years back and public transport has been shite ever since.

I literally cannot take public transport to and from work, it's that bad.

NTripleOne··on Voice Synthesis for in-the-Wild Speakers via a Phonological Loop
The voice I 'hear' in my head and the one I actually hear when talking is starkly different.
NTripleOne··on Hidden dungeons of the London Underground
Discount? I thought you didn't need one at all if you were using a B&W TV?
NTripleOne··on Google to add 'news feed' to website and app
Doesn't yahoo use bing anyway nowadays?
NTripleOne··on Without Flash the current web tech stack might look different
Hahaha, Lego and Duplo for developers and non developers, fantastic!
NTripleOne··on Used GPUs flood the market as Ethereum's price drops below $150
This is just me talking, but I'd never buy a GPU that's been used for mining.
NTripleOne··on MPC-HC v1.7.13 is released and farewell
In case anyone's seeing this using SVP3 and had no idea that 4 had released, 4 is well worth paying for, it is far less hardware intensive (SVP3 would choke getting high bitrate 1080p videos to 60fps, SVP4 handles the same files like a dream - anecdotal but better than nothing), the interface of the main application has been... improved (kinda subjective, but it's definitely more idiot proof) and it even supports VLC now if you swing that way.
NTripleOne··on MPC-HC v1.7.13 is released and farewell
Holy shit those spam replies to this comment... what the hell was so special about this that it warranted like 5 spam replies?
NTripleOne··on Show HN: Wireframe drawing library for JavaScript
Is it weird that I saw this and the first thing I wanted to see it used for was a browser port of Elite?
NTripleOne··on Your Logical Fallacy Is
If only more people understood this.

Pointing out a fallacy might as well be a fallacy itself.

NTripleOne··on New Skype Update Is Horrible
You appear to be under the impression that windows.old is a based on the windows folder.

It's not.

NTripleOne··on Winamp’s woes: How the greatest MP3 player undid itself (2012)
How? Streaming is not mandatory and I don't see physical media saying goodbye any time soon, if at all.

People are gonna want collections - be it physical or digital - because that's what humans are like. If the music industry ever switched to streaming only, there'd be a MASSIVE decline in the industry.

NTripleOne··on Windows 10 will use protected folders to thwart crypto ransomware
Not entirely sure why you're getting downvoted - I can only assume it's a kneejerk reaction at the mention of DeepFreeze, stemming from residual bitterness due to all the installations of Halo CE that were removed from school computers thanks to DeepFreeze.
NTripleOne··on Differentiating laptops: How about a decent keyboard? (2015)
>a non touchbar Mac with a touchid power button.

That would make too much sense, Apple haven't done sense for a while now - people have called Apple form over function for a long time except now it's actually true, at least WRT their laptops.

NTripleOne··on After 3072 hours of manipulating BGP, a Nyancat was drawn on this RIPE interface
But 2011 was 52560 hours ago!

Still, pretty neat. :)

NTripleOne··on Sega releasing every console game for free with ads on mobile
Oh wow, thanks for this, I loved revolt on the PS1 as a kid (that menu music tho <3) and have played the far superior PC version on and off over the years since.
NTripleOne··on Sega releasing every console game for free with ads on mobile
It was likely implemented before google took over android.
NTripleOne··on A new approach to text rendering
Fuck knows why it couldn't - but in my personal experience code is infinitely more difficult to read without a monospaced font.
NTripleOne··on Fake online stores reveal gamblers' shadow banking system
Yup, that's me too. I have a £30 hard deposit limit for gambling (which comes out of my 'nice things to keep me sane' budget anyway) per month. Maybe I'm just lucky but it's genuinely very rare that I walk away out of pocket - I play by the rule of "hit >2*deposit, withdraw deposit amount and keep playing what's left" and for the most part it works, and I get a couple hours of fun out of it.

I know people who'd happily drop £30 a month on junk food or some other frivolous and non-essential purchase, yet they call me an addict. Maybe I am maybe I'm not, I don't know. I do know that I have a good time for a couple of hours and if I'm lucky, I get to walk away with a couple hundred extra in my bank account.

>I create websites for the healthcare industry.

OH BOY do I know your pain.

Ah well, it's not like those XP machines that the NHS loves so much were an attack vector in a recent, prolific cyber attack, no no.

NTripleOne··on Show HN: Sudo for Windows
Yeah, I'd really like to see MS implement some method for applications to automatically request elevation when they try to do something that they otherwise wouldn't be allowed to.

Also, not sure why you've received two replies, that are - as far as I can see, completely irrelevant to what you've written; it's bizarre.

NTripleOne··on Show HN: Realtime Chatroom Built with Laravel and VueJS
I think he quite literally means the only server available to host it on was a windows server, although I still don't see why that limits you to asp at all.
NTripleOne··on Ghost in the Shell FUI Design
Unfortunately to both myself (intimately familiar with the source material) and my father (zero knowledge at all), the shots increasingly came off as "look at all this work we put in to these, please appreciate them... please?" as the movie progressed.

Not that I'd mark it down for it at all, there's no shame in wanting to show off your work (especially when it's that good looking), and they never dragged on too long, they were just... oddly more frequent than expected.

NTripleOne··on Netflix’s DVD Subscription Is Still Great
Fantastic movie with some really imaginative CG, the whole 'fractal'-like effect had me fascinated every time it was shown and was pretty much the entire reason I watched it to begin with. The fact that it was a decent movie was a nice bonus too.
NTripleOne··on Ghost in the Shell FUI Design
Yeah, it was an extraordinarily pretty film, although I think they really dragged out the whole "HEY LOOK HOLGRAPHIC BILLBOARDS" thing, I lost count of how many sweeping shots of buildings and their attached holograms I saw...
NTripleOne··on Oculus founder Palmer Luckey is developing border surveillance technology
Ah, last one I saw was just a bunch of memelords yelling "normies get out".
