NEPatriot··on Tell HN: I got screwed by my employer
Agreed. Hand over everything to a family/relative you trust who is also a developer and have them say they are doing/taking over the dev work on it. Just make sure they can't ever prove you are the one doing the work.

Mix in community with adsense and you get: looking for gadget XYZ? Here are the ads for it, by the way X of your FB friends bought product 1, 4X of your FB friends bought product 2. Which are you more likely to buy?

I agree with your point about picking a problem you understand but would add that I would pick a problem you are passionate about as well. Because during the tough times the passion is what carries you through. In building an organic startup you should hopefully be attacking a problem that you both understand well and are passionate about.

To get from something I want to something other people want the link I see is that other people want what I want therefore I made something other people want.
NEPatriot··on HN Contractors: Add Yourself
Anyone doing this in order to find a co-founder/project to join?
NEPatriot··on More weight, fewer reps works best.
I think familiarization and adaption are the enemy. You should vary workout cycles so you're never a heavy weight/low rep or a low weight/high rep person. But rather one who always varies workout variables at least every 3 weeks. These variables: reps, weight, rest duration, big body exercise (squat/dead lift), specific body exercise (bicep curl), tempo, sets, reps, super sets.

As people in the TC article pointed out the only issue I have with cord cutting is live sports. MLB has a 20$/month subscription service but I'd like to only pay for my team say 3-4$/month. Once the other leagues follow, and I can pay a few $ a month/team. I'm ready to cut.
NEPatriot··on Hallucinogens Have Doctors Tuning In Again
As far as drugs go... Our bodies belong to Pfizer/Merc. Commercialization of drugs.
NEPatriot··on Hallucinogens Have Doctors Tuning In Again
You need a piece of paper (degree) from an educational institution to make these claims. Otherwise you get arrested/have serious problems. Shaman/Medicine men have been having visions for years and using substances to get closer to nature since humankind started - agree with your point about "rediscovery".

If you have traction and need money you should apply. Nivi and Naval are like your uncle that's connected and knows everyone. If they think your start up is promising it will be shown to the right people. I applied.
NEPatriot··on Ideas for your next web app?
I like the app for the wife/gf - the guy wants to call it INag. Basically an app that lets the wife/gf assign tasks to get things done.
NEPatriot··on Ask HN: Are you happy, well-rounded? (dealing w/ depression/lack of motivation)
"who I am and what I want" So much of it is getting to know yourself and who you are.
NEPatriot··on Ask HN: Are you happy, well-rounded? (dealing w/ depression/lack of motivation)
Read the War of Art by Stephen Pressman. He puts a name to this beast and calls it resistance. Most of us have gone through it. He openly discusses it and talks about the battles against it.
NEPatriot··on Ask HN: Feedback on our startup (LabApp.com)
Agreed with making browse a button, I would also consider moving it above software consumers heading.

And create a button for creators to sign up and move that above the software creators heading.

I think it looks great, but needs louder call to actions.

NEPatriot··on WakeMates are shipping! Congrats WakeMates
I second this - would also like to hear people's thoughts about this product. Do you actually feel a noticeable gain in the level of energy in the morning?
NEPatriot··on Ask HN: What makes you happy? What is your American Dream?
Freedom to explore the world and do what I want. Wanting to solve problems for other other people. Have a family.

The War of Art - Stephen Pressfield - how to overcome yourself

Gates of Fire - same as above, the story of the stand at Thermopylae

Agincourt & 3 part series Archer's tale - Bernard Cornwell - accounts of medievil warfare

StrengthsFinder 2.0 - Tom Rath - take a test and discover your strengths/things you love to do, focus on on doing those

I would add some benefit to signing up for your newsletter. By signing up what do I get?
NEPatriot··on Ask HN: How do you solve hard problems if you can't make incremental progress?
I look for inspiration from the world around me and focus on trying to always find the simplest solution with the least resistance.
NEPatriot··on Google's Python Class (Video, Notes & Exercises)
Not stupid at all. A lot of people (myself included) think that education is eventually going to be free thanks to technology. The only missing item is going to be some $100k piece of paper that makes me/you > me/you.

The university of the people professes: Tuition Free Online University http://www.uopeople.org/

There are others like them out there too. If you have the skills to execute who cares about that piece of paper?

I need to see some data around this before I buy.

Something as simple as... before/after stats of product effectiveness. % users waking refreshed before/after.

First time I can recall seeing "Dead Simple" is on Posterous. I think we're just used to everything being overly complicated so that anything that's simple is by definition "dead simple". Simple by itself is naked and unsophisticated. Dead simple on the other hand is special.

If he wants to be a co founder and contribute, and he's got some skills the odds go up
NEPatriot··on Ask HN: How would you invest $50,000?
I would post on HN and ask for people to share with you what they're working on but for the love provide some sort of template or format you want to be pitched with. Whether you want to see wireframes, a demo, or a slide deck with 5 slides etc.

Pick what you like best and dive in - in whatever capacity you choose.

NEPatriot··on Ask HN: Review my lead-mining webapp, LeadNuke
Here are my $.02. Great idea. Warms leads are very valuable and if you can help you have a winner. Your voice came out very well.

I am wondering why the videos are hidden on the pricing page? I'm a big believer in showing the video up front so I can take 2 mins to decide if this is for me. I'd also recommend a shorter video that highlights how you take an rss feed and turn it into a lead in order to demonstrate value.

Once I've determine this product could be of value to me, then I might want to get details about how it works.

NEPatriot··on Ex-Googlers have invested in 200 startups since '05 & are just getting started
Not really sure why Google doesn't setup their own version of YC, and fund their own people's startups... Take 5-10% for 20k-30k and let their people have a go at it.
