Mrirazak1··on We need everything in one place for our tools
Yes that’s correct
Mrirazak1··on We need everything in one place for our tools
Sorry just so u understand the problem you have is that you want all your software tools like Figma etc in one place?
Mrirazak1··on We need everything in one place for our tools
For context I mean software tools like Figma etc
Mrirazak1··on We need everything in one place for our tools

Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: How much do you read in a year?
I think this year I have achieved less reading than last probs 9-10 books.
Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: What subscriptions do you pay for?
Figma, Apple One, Netflix, Disney+
Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: Coding on Your Phone?
Nah I don’t think would ever be a good idea. To learn yes but not to actually code. Sorry.
Mrirazak1··on We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam to return to OpenAI as CEO
The Steve jobs of our TikTok generation. Came back very quickly in comparison to the 12 years but still.
Mrirazak1··on Will AI/machine learning bring about more good or bad in the next 100 years?
I think this is up for a debate but the governments are behind in legislation like they always are and they won’t cover everything because they can’t so… I fear we will see lots of evil being made with AI because software doesn’t want to be good or bad it’s to do wihr the creator of the software.

I equally feel we will do lots of good with it, but I think things like job losses are eventually inevitable and our jobs have to reshape and change but governments aren’t focused on trying to retrain or up-skill people into the future jobs that will exist. It’s about preparing for the future and the governments are behind the curve.

Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: How to plan the big move from Android to iOS?
The plan is this- Get an iPhone- use the move to iOS app. It transfers everything over. You just need to login to some things again. And hey presto your on iOS.

Welcome to the brighter side

Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: What did you do or read this weekend that wasn't related to the OpenAI?
How shambolic the British government has been during the pandemic.
Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: How is Apple able to make quality software?
They have a team of 10K+ developers but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to make great software. I think you need to remember they take their time to release things and don’t rush. So maybe the software you use today was 3 years in the making.

You don’t need pixel perfect software, it’s all about how it works and the problems it solves for the end customer.

Mrirazak1··on OpenAI's board has fired Sam Altman
This was mad crazy. I’m interested as to why he was fired? What could’ve been so big that the board just had to be like yep he’s going?
Mrirazak1··on Google pays Apple 36% of the revenue it earns from searches in Safari
I’m not surprised. But my question is isn’t this antithetical to the whole privacy stance? We don’t sell your data but we do allow companies to bargain you as a user for their products.
Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: What are you reading these days?
I’m currently reading:

The art of explanation by Ros Atkins.

Lovely book.

Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: Have you seen any useful GPTs yet?
I think right now their is too many mundane things— just ppl playing around— whilst you have a few big gpts like canva etc.

It’s still nothing major.

Mrirazak1··on Tell HN: I can report Facebook's new subscription does not work
Question is are they going to still harvest data? No point paying if they will still do exactly the same thing?
Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: How many of you feel lonely in a crowd?
I’m sorry to hear that. Loneliness is one of our biggest social problems in the world right now and tbh not much is being done about it. Technology is driving us more and more away from human interaction and it’s becoming harder to actual be around people and even if you are you could still be lonely.

I think you have to find solace in place you find joy and happiness. Even if it’s just going to the park and seeing people walk around. I know it’s not the same as being around people but I feel you. Growing up I never kept many friends and I when I really needed someone to talk too I didn’t have anyone to turn too, no lifetime friends. Even now at work, I don’t keep many friends just colleagues that I talk too at work and nothing more. I do and don’t regret not expanding my horizons, I do because obv I could’ve had someone to talk to when I need too and be around. I don’t because sometimes I realise that lots of people I thought could’ve been friends probs weren’t good friends, they would take more from me than I would give. So yeah.

I hope it gets better.

Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: Is anyone else bearish on OpenAI?
I think OpenAI isn’t going anywhere anytime soon and it will be integrated into lots of different applications and platforms but it’s going to be custom made like canva did. It’s gonna need more work because of how inaccurate it is, but their is great things for consumers to use, in terms of simplicity, obv if everything can just be done by typing prompts into a chat then why would companies spend billions a year building whatever— that is an issue— so it really depends but we would have to see what happens over the coming years.

I think it’s a bit too early to be bullish on openAI yet because beyond their gpt and image creator there isn’t much they are doing yet— yet being the keyword— so let’s see.

Mrirazak1··on Facebook just started requiring EU users to choose: privacy or €9.99/month
My question is will they still collate all that data. There is no point in charging us to just have our data harvested like Twitter is doing rn. I think they should make that clear, if so then it’s not the worst idea in the world because they make like 97% of their income from ads, so unless we’re willing to pay to use FB etc to stop it from happening.

Obv like I said will they still harvest and I think they will.

Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: Share an important life lesson that took you a long time to figure out
Where you are right now might be the means to an end not the end itself. Sometimes you have to take a little hard road until you reach where you want to go.
Mrirazak1··on Zuckerberg personally rejected Meta's proposals to improve teen mental health
I’m actually not surprised. Meta has had a history of this because their core business is unlocking that psychology in our social graphs from young to old and keeping us hooked to it. Improving mental health would be an opposite direction to their goals since they’d have to reduce usage and inform them of taking breaks and better mental health.
Mrirazak1··on After luring customers with low prices, Amazon stuffs Fire TVs with ads
They need to make money of it somehow. The problem with smart home products that Amazon is learning now finally is that their loads of products in the home and you can’t replace all of them. Lots of them are bad ideas to turn into products. Throwing money at the problem doesn’t solve it.
Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: Do you think Adobe's AI will replace Photoshop?
That’s the thing I think people are still needed and for something like photoshop you can’t easily replace. Even if AI can make images look really good, it’s not got the intelligence to do what professional photo editors do.
Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: What are you passionate about at the moment?
Right now I’m very interested in Creativity Software and Machine Learning.
Mrirazak1··on You don't need to work on hard problems (2020)
I think it depends what we define as hard problems because their are lots of problems in the world that need solving but the scale of which your solving it at matters. So if their problems that get solved with your product/service helps 1 billion people as a hypothetical example over 10-15 years then that’s a hard problem worth solving. But if it’s say for 10 people it may not be worth solving. So the scale to which your solving it for matters.
Mrirazak1··on WeWork Goes Bankrupt
To be fair this was a long time coming. It was a clever concept, clever execution but then it was all downhill.
Mrirazak1··on How long until prices go back down?
Speaking from the UK here. The CPI has largely remained around 6% recently here in the Uk, interest rates are very high but the Bank of England hasn’t started quantitative easing to start reducing interest rates and thus hopefully bringing down inflation. I believe that it will start in early 2024 at some point here in the Uk but the macro economics of the wars around the world will have a major impact of timeline to which that happens.

But I don’t suspect until later 2024 or 2025 for it to truly come down but I believe it won’t come down to much lower levels to like 2019 levels. A coke bottle will be around £2-2.50 it won’t be lower than that. Even if it is it will be pennies.

Mrirazak1··on Ask HN: Which headset do you use for work?
HomePods I don’t use headsets otherwise. When I need to make a call AirPods.
Mrirazak1··on Startup idea: Zapier for consumer apps
I think the problem might be for consumer apps how they create their APIs since lots of consumer apps are startups with limited resources and second is pricing. They need to make money somehow?
