MrMan··on Hate Speech’s Rise on Twitter Is Unprecedented, Researchers Find
the people who advocate for the "sunlight" idea are in actual fact advocating for the hate speech, and just trying to normalize it and help it spread.
MrMan··on The distinction between free speech as a legal right and cultural value
there were, numerically, basically no alt-right people 20 years ago. now regular assholes are being infected by this stuff and a huge percentage of the information storm coming at me every day is either angry, an outright lie, a reposting of something hateful or untrue, and "sunlight" isnt helping anything. we are creating an insane landscape of anger, loathing and unreality, and now more and more public figures are amplifying it, including the owner of a major social media site.

sunlight being disinfectant is not true. stochastic terrorism driven by media hyper engagement is definitely true.

MrMan··on FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried denies 'improper use' of customer funds

MrMan··on Elon Musk Says Apple and Twitter Have ‘Resolved’ Differences After Meeting
it was only Musk posting that claimed there is any dispute in the first place, this seems like a weird made up drama.
MrMan··on Ask HN: How is Musk's Apple Twitter threat post not SEC violation?
how is the SEC worried right now about Twitter, a private company? I dont understand the question

MrMan··on Author warns about 'epidemic of self-censorship'
we need more open borders, at least here in North America. we need to bring people in to drive economic growth.
MrMan··on Phone interview with Sam Bankman-Fried [audio]
FTX was not a bank it was a hole for money to go into.
MrMan··on Phone interview with Sam Bankman-Fried [audio]
maybe its hard to be delta neutral in crypto where all the coins are like 95% correlated.
MrMan··on Phone interview with Sam Bankman-Fried [audio]
no he was bragging - a lot of the "trading" alameda did was participating and orchestrating "boxes" like what he so smugly described in the interview, which was horrifying to listen to.
MrMan··on Twitter is no longer enforcing the Covid-19 misleading information policy
just more super frightening symptoms of mass social media poisoning, I am sure its fine
MrMan··on Beto O’Rourke Returned $1M Check from FTX’s Sam Bankman-Fried

MrMan··on BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads
I would go much farther than this. It's not since the internet that the answer is no. It's since civilization that people collectively choose not to try to do everything themselves.

No one thinks it's a good idea to be your own bank. No one thinks they need to make their own shoes cars food computers hand tools ... the list is an enumeration of all the artifacts of civilization.

crypto is an anti-social fantasy at best, it flies in the face of reality.

MrMan··on BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads
smart greedy people who dont yet have enough money have to solve this problem. crypto is an opportunity to convince less-smart greedy people that "centralization" is socialist and bad, and get them to hand over their money.
MrMan··on BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads
I am up YTD and YOY
MrMan··on BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads
this has more in common with the S&L crisis than the .com crash. if you are going to use analogies to past events as a crutch
MrMan··on BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads
these nakedly fraudulent scams are nothing like real finance, its night and day. you need to get educated and then come back with better-informed opinions
MrMan··on BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads
forget simplicity - why is "self-custody" not a thing already with other currencies? let's start there.
MrMan··on BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads
thank you
MrMan··on BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads
yeah if only a few thousand crypto fanatics trade all these coins there is effectively no ecosystem and thus no upward price pressure to make the nerds rich.
MrMan··on Musk says Twitter signups at all-time high, touts features of “everything app”
I am planning a Show HN thread where I explain how to best experience twitter - use the HN search for "twitter" or "musk", sort the results by date. then only read and reply to comments on HN, DO NOT click through to the clickbait.

this is the most constructive way to experience twitter, you get the features of HN, with slightly less toxicity, without playing into the social media trap ( assuming HN is less harmful than the big socials)

MrMan··on Bitcoin worth $1.5B withdrawn from Coinbase in 48 hours

MrMan··on Bitcoin worth $1.5B withdrawn from Coinbase in 48 hours
who will keep the value of coins pumped if normal people dont buy into the FOMO? seems like a fundamental problem if only a tiny hardcore of angry anarchists represent the demand for these coins
MrMan··on Choosing Nim out of a crowded market for systems programming languages
people just say it's a systems language, it doesnt have to be only this.
