MrDrMcCoy··on ADHD as a circadian rhythm disorder: evidence and implications for chronotherapy (2025)
A very uninformed opinion.
MrDrMcCoy··on ADHD as a circadian rhythm disorder: evidence and implications for chronotherapy (2025)
> so conditioned to being groggy in the mornings that I still find it hard to get up even if I feel fairly refreshed.

I am very much in the same boat. Mornings have never been my friend. Even the few restful nights and refreshed mornings I get are spoiled by learned grogginess and overstaying in bed.

I've long since had to wear an eye mask to bed, which I hated until I found one I liked. The ones that do it for me are the weighted ones, in case you've never tried.
MrDrMcCoy··on Trump says anyone who uses the phrase "artificial intelligence" is "the enemy"
Top tier criticism, well done. Thank you for enriching the topic.
MrDrMcCoy··on Trump says anyone who uses the phrase "artificial intelligence" is "the enemy"
A simple Markov chain is more coherent than Trump these days...
MrDrMcCoy··on Trump says anyone who uses the phrase "artificial intelligence" is "the enemy"
I'm having a little trouble grokking your last point. Would you please elaborate?
MrDrMcCoy··on Trump says anyone who uses the phrase "artificial intelligence" is "the enemy"
Sush, you! We want fascism to eat itself faster, not slower! Let them think that declaring more enemies is working!
MrDrMcCoy··on Permanent Daylight Saving Time Could Harm Sleep and Mental Health, Analysis Says
Radical proposal: end both daylight savings and time zones entirely. One global clock, and regions simply choose which hours are best for working based on where they are.
MrDrMcCoy··on PS5 Jailbreaks Are Escalating at an Unprecedented Pace
Custom firmware is one thing, the signing key required to apply it is another.
MrDrMcCoy··on Toronto-Based VPN Provider Plans to Quit Canada over Lawful-Access Bill
Iceland.

Because screw Anthropic and OpenAI, that's why.
MrDrMcCoy··on A 40ms Go garbage collector pause caused by swap
Run your process in a cgroup that's set to disallow swap, then. The rest of your system benefits from having swap. This was an easy and safe thing that required minimal convincing to roll out to production at my company.
MrDrMcCoy··on A 40ms Go garbage collector pause caused by swap
Nor to falsely indicate that swap is bad.
MrDrMcCoy··on WSL containers is now generally available
WSL is a VM, along with all the overhead and inefficiencies that come with it.
MrDrMcCoy··on The technology to eradicate mosquito-borne disease exists
All this talk about killing mosquitoes with uncertain effectiveness, while the mosquito saliva vaccine is just about ready to go and accomplishes the same thing without potentially affecting ecosystems.
MrDrMcCoy··on Homa: The end of TCP for AI clusters [video]
So that any sensitive data stupidly uploaded doesn't get leaked, which includes "zero-retention" corporate stuff. Anything that could get sniffed by employees and other agents. It really should be standard practice for any data passing between nodes, even if it's all within a site.
MrDrMcCoy··on Run Qwen 3.8 Flash Next (125B) on consumer hardware (RTX 4090) at 100T/s
Ternary Bonsai 2 might be for you.
MrDrMcCoy··on Automatic Transmission – a data-privacy study of connected vehicles
You trust that they aren't sending data anyway?
MrDrMcCoy··on Automatic Transmission – a data-privacy study of connected vehicles
Replace the camera feed with a looping video stream.
MrDrMcCoy··on Automatic Transmission – a data-privacy study of connected vehicles
Spoofing is all well and fine, but you can do more. Put as much bandwidth through that modem as possible. Those connections are meant for light data telemetry and their carrier agreement probably has caps. All the better and more expensive for them if they don't.
MrDrMcCoy··on Automatic Transmission – a data-privacy study of connected vehicles
There are 50ohm antenna pigtails for just such a purpose.
MrDrMcCoy··on Show HN: NSL – WSL for Linux
Nspawn is a full system container engine with its own systemd environment, which makes it closer to LXC/Incus than Podman/Docker. You can do the single process thing in system containers or use a full init system in Docker/Podman, but the experience won't be as smooth.
MrDrMcCoy··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
Currently going through Bobiverse, Dungeon Crawler Carl. Recently finished the Dark Profit Saga (Orconomics). Highly recommend all of them.
MrDrMcCoy··on Memory Companies Have Destroyed the Consumer Market
Colloquial "capitalism" today is just cronyism that in no way resembles the capitalism that Adam Smith wrote about. We really should move towards Rhine Capitalism, the only system that has stood the test of time and truly benefits everyone.
MrDrMcCoy··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
I did. Cannabis in excess has not shown to be harmful.
MrDrMcCoy··on So long Google, and thanks for all the nudes
> the rich pay their fair share

If there's a way to do that that doesn't require arbitrary thresholds that won't stand the test of time or in any way screw over regular people's investments, I'd love to hear about it.

MrDrMcCoy··on Windows 11½
Mozilla is not a Linux distribution or DE. Canonical is on my deny list.
MrDrMcCoy··on Windows 11½
> how often do you run into the software you want not being built for your distro?

Is this even the right question? The whole reason humans create software is to accomplish something. If software a is not available, but software b is and does the same thing nearly as well, why not spend 5 minutes to learn the thing?

MrDrMcCoy··on World Labs Is Joining AMD
Really, it's just the Python frameworks on AMD consumer GPUs that suck. AMD datacenter GPUs seem to work with them well enough, and llama.cpp crushes it for the rest of us.
MrDrMcCoy··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
Alcohol poisoning is a thing. I have yet to hear of a case of canabanoid poisoning. Canabanoids also don't lower your inhibition, which is why DUIs went down in states that legalized. The difference in risk could not be more stark.
