Mistletoe··on Virus Stole a Human Gene and Won't Let Go of It
I’d actually love to, can I swap out many of mine with LeBron and Albert Einstein? Anyone got the torrent link?
Mistletoe··on Virus Stole a Human Gene and Won't Let Go of It
I’m just always amazed that this many HN readers pay for the NY Times or any of the other publications constantly posted here with paywalls.
Mistletoe··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
I’m lost when I read these sort of comment chains. Free Gemini works just fine for me. Maybe it’s because I don’t use it for programming? How many programmers really exist out there? Surely it can’t support the weight of investment that exists in AI already. It’s just such a small pool of the human race.
Mistletoe··on A Privacy Analysis of Web and Mobile Conversational AI Agents [pdf]
That’s not fair, we are also more free training and refining of their models.

So that I can see the future we shall all enjoy, can you do this with the superpowers of earth and their known nuclear weapons and armies?
Mistletoe··on The Copilot+ PC brand is dead
This would be really cool and I’m afraid, like my iPhone 13 Mini and numerous other things I like, bought by a small amount of people compared to the masses. But that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist.
Mistletoe··on Fifteen years later, the Apple Cards origin story
Sheer force of stupid, no one cares if a bar code is on the envelope.
Mistletoe··on The Mafia may be keeping fentanyl out of Italy
Maybe the mafia saw the population curves and realized how precious each customer is now and will be in the future. Something tech companies would be wise to think about...

https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/countries/ita/ita...

And the curve is the same across almost all the world. Italy is 1.3, you need 2.1 to even tread water and keep the population you have. Who buys the stocks and fentanyl when each year you have less and less buyers?

Yes but why do you need to verify your age to use computer hardware?

Mistletoe··on The Millennium Problems for Biology
I’m going to be honest, I don’t know if improving Rubsico is possible. Nature has had every reason to and billions of years. It’s optimized as far as it can go and you either lose speed or specificity, I don’t think having both is possible.
Mistletoe··on New evidence for hidden chambers beyond Tutankhamun's tomb

I expected some deeper delving into the story but it just kind of rambles for a bit and ends, like an LLM wrote it.

AI will kill us by turning us on each other. It has already been doing it for some time.

Gold, small cap value, long term treasuries all have done well historically.

How many top signals like this article do you need to see before you exit the market?

Let’s look to the past:

Mistletoe··on The shrinking landscape of linguistic diversity in the age of LLMs
“In this case we will probably have one of the last feature films with authentic natives in it. They are fading away very quickly and its a catastrophe and a tragedy that's going on and we are losing riches and riches and riches and we lose cultures and individualities and languages and mythologies and we'll be stark naked at the end. We'll end up like all the cities in the world now with skyscrapers and a universal kind of culture like - like the American culture.” -Werner Herzog, Burden of Dreams (1982)

I’m reminded of that wonderful quote from that movie I just saw. Now not only will we have one culture, we will have one bland style of writing and even thinking, the LLM way.
