Mauricebranagh··on The myth of the driverless tube train
A few years ago my father did some consulting work for LU and he motioned that a lot of the pre war equipment had far less faults that the modern 1980's stuff.
Mauricebranagh··on The myth of the driverless tube train
And a driver can when some one is blocking the doors not proceed and get the blockage removed quickly.

Pre covid in the rush hour this was very common.

Mauricebranagh··on Show HN: Tell YouTube ads to fuck off
Well the same problem exists there not many types of advertisers to go in for YouTube content.

Some of it is conservatism from brands but product fit is also a problem.

How else do propose creators make a profit or even cover their costs?

Mauricebranagh··on Show HN: Tell YouTube ads to fuck off
Its an inventory problem.-

Also do you mean pre and post roll ads or the ads the creators them selves do ?

Mauricebranagh··on ProPublica's tax story
When did a journalist ever not claim "public interest" I am sure that the paparazzi that chased princess Di to heard death would claim that.
Mauricebranagh··on IRS records reveal how the wealthiest avoid income tax
So I should be forced to sell shares early? I have no problem with paying tax due I am not in US BTW

And some countries think and I agree that people having a stake in your employer and in the economy through share ownership is a good thing.

Mauricebranagh··on IRS records reveal how the wealthiest avoid income tax
So if I wait to sell shares when it suits me I a some how a monster now ? You do realise that many employees on average wages do this.

Even the SWP is cool with employee shares now

Mauricebranagh··on IRS records reveal how the wealthiest avoid income tax
Presumably you would penalise every employee including your self that has options?

Exactly he is stepping on the toes of those who own the media - its why the UK Press beats on the BBC and British Telecom.

BT has a lot a negative press about its sports investments but Murdoch's sky doesn't

Mauricebranagh··on The top-ranking HTML editor on Google is an SEO scam
That's Minifcation and you'd normally thigs like https://github.com/kangax/html-minifier

I am not sure what you'd use this tool for possibly for scraping work but beautiful soup is probably better for that

Mauricebranagh··on The top-ranking HTML editor on Google is an SEO scam
Apart from stuffing 200 links in the footer why is this bad?
Mauricebranagh··on The top-ranking HTML editor on Google is an SEO scam

Mauricebranagh··on The Levenshtein distance in production (2020)

Mauricebranagh··on Want a killer product? Become more opinionated
I did mean the real local word etc not the shite online versions.

Main thing is structured documents tracking changes, macros to automate processes.

Mauricebranagh··on Amazon’s newest euphemism for overworked employees is ‘industrial athlete’
Time and motion studies go back a long way in industry
Mauricebranagh··on Want a killer product? Become more opinionated
And that's a pretty low bar for power users BTW.

Google cloud is ok for "formatting your Christmas card list in Norwegian" to use a literary allusion.

But when you come to writing specs and reports used by multiple teams word /excel is still by far the best solution.

Mauricebranagh··on Amazon’s newest euphemism for overworked employees is ‘industrial athlete’
I suspect its because "Amazon" is the most visible there are far worse stories about UK warehouses.

Its a bit like the protestors against Mc Donalds.

And I do wonder if Amazon might have stricter reporting when compared to smaller industrial sites who might hide acidents.

Mauricebranagh··on Pandemic homeschoolers who are not going back
Reading the summary oh cool not a YA novel about hunting animals for fun yay
Mauricebranagh··on Apple asks staff to return to office 3 days a week starting in early September
Second had car prices have soared and people might not be keep to go back to jammed public transport due to covid.

Mauricebranagh··on Apple asks staff to return to office 3 days a week starting in early September
I meant going back a couple of hundred years - every one having a full kitchen and cooking most things at home is still in historical terms recent.
Mauricebranagh··on Apple asks staff to return to office 3 days a week starting in early September
Its also not taxed which for a higher earner does multiply the benefit.

I am surprised that the IRS hasn't gone after this like HMRC has in the UK

Mauricebranagh··on Apple asks staff to return to office 3 days a week starting in early September
And large numbers of people cooking at home is a relatively recent thing
Mauricebranagh··on Apple asks staff to return to office 3 days a week starting in early September
Don't ivy league students have to cook for themselves?
Mauricebranagh··on Apple asks staff to return to office 3 days a week starting in early September
You are assuming that salaries don't take that into account.
Mauricebranagh··on Employees are quitting instead of giving up working from home
Given the ligations nature of the US I bet some layers will be taking class action for RSI etc due to home working in the next year to 18 months
