MarceColl··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
The EUV LLC research was US-funded, agreed. But the light source is Cymer, which ASML has owned since 2013. Its drive laser is Trumpf (Germany), and the optics are Zeiss (Germany). Nikon and Canon had access to the same public research and dropped EUV. The US had GCA, Perkin-Elmer and SVG, and lost the market anyway. If integration were the easy part, someone else would have done it. You are underselling what it means to perfect the machines by calling it "just integrating".

By that logic SpaceX is a German company. Liquid-fuel rocketry was researched and developed at Peenemünde, and the US brought in von Braun's team wholesale to build its program. SpaceX just integrates German IP. Or Google is Swiss. The web was invented at CERN; Google is just an integrator of European tech. Or Apple Silicon is British. ARM was designed in Cambridge; Apple just licenses it.

MarceColl··on Evolving programming languages in the AI era
I've been building something in this direction for a year across many iterations and explorations: https://dziban.net/posts/yabu/ and https://kinoko.sh

There is such a wide range of interesting things that can happen here that we aren't exploring at all.

MarceColl··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
That's why it has so many competitors, right?
MarceColl··on Show HN: EterDB, a Postgres fork that makes it easy to recover from incidents
Fair enough, but I think there is utility beyond this. Sometimes humans do stupid shit too.
MarceColl··on Show HN: EterDB, a Postgres fork that makes it easy to recover from incidents
I have no relation to the project, but calling this problem solved and then offering a vastly inferior solution to the proposal (PITR) is a bit unfair
MarceColl··on Show HN: SubSmith – Turn your own videos into language-learning material
It's a similar methodology, my problem with things like this is that they do give you comprehensible input, but it's very boring. I don't engage at all. The idea of Katarineko is to create comprehensible input from content that interests you. Say you want to watch Spirited Away but it's a bit too advanced for you at the moment, we create stories at your level for Spirited Away to teach you the core words you need to achieve your target comprehension level.
MarceColl··on Show HN: SubSmith – Turn your own videos into language-learning material
I've been building something similar but targeted at bringing content that interests you to your level: https://katarineko.com.

I've been learning Japanese as well and the content at my level is boring while the content I'm interested in is a wall.

Yeah, that's bullshit.

Depending on my mental state, status with the person and many other factors each of them may trigger both many different internal thoughts, looks, body expressions and even outcomes.

for you, I am in general not constrained by the speed of models since I parallelize. For me autonomy and accuracy are paramount above all else.
MarceColl··on Building on ATProto
I have a referee server handling that. I haven't! I don't even know what Atmo is, tbh.
MarceColl··on Building on ATProto
I've been building a board game community on ATProto. The idea revolves in trying to build the feeling of local clubs but online, instead of "PLAY NOW" being on the landing page (although you can play now if you want) it's organized around clubs. I also wanted to move away from one game oriented community. I play Go and Chess and I would love clubs to be for mixed games. You can create leagues, or tournaments, etc.

As an extension of that I've been building a small language to build games (with a nice time traveling debugger and automatic replays) inspired by Elm. Go and Chess are both built on top of this and you could fork them and modify the rules. Want to code a new Chess variant? Go ahead! Want to code a whole new game you want to try? Go ahead!

What I'm very excited with ATProto is that because all games are broadcast on it and each shares a core system of turn-based replays (and review system with branching) software can be built on top to do AI analysis, or a replay view. The idea that my application can be extended without me adding an API is very exciting and very much in the direction I want to take the system (community is the core tenet).

MarceColl··on Everyone should know SIMD
I guess it depends on what real language means to you, but APL[1] existed before and it's fully array based.

MarceColl··on Why do you suck at juggling now?
It could be, but I assume it was not because of how he introduced himself. "Hey? Are you that juggling guy from the gym?"
MarceColl··on Why do you suck at juggling now?
What's more shocking to me is asking a person that is not even an acquaintance why they suck at juggling now.
MarceColl··on There is minimal downside to switching to open models
Not caring about providers doesn't mean not caring about models.
MarceColl··on The European Social Stack
And yet my American ex-GF that went to one of these top universities with very good grades when she came to Barcelona to do a masters (in a lowly Spanish university) she was so far behind in knowledge compared to her peers she had to do a lot of work just to catch up.

I'm pretty sure most of these are just politics being played.

MarceColl··on Goodbye Visa and Mastercard: 130M Europeans switching to sovereign payment
We already have instant SEPA payments and most countries already have a version of this running, I think the idea is that this unifies it across europe. I can send money to any friend in 20 seconds with Bizum in Spain and a lot of merchants also accept Bizum.
MarceColl··on Show HN: Social Network for Corporate Cringe
So linkedin?
MarceColl··on France's government is ditching Windows for Linux, says US tech a strategic risk
The reason you can say "an American" has nothing to do with a vowel or not, there are just some demonyms that for some reason can be used like this, and some that can't.

For example:

* German is countable: https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/englis... * French is uncountable: https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/englis... * American is countable: https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/englis... * Spanish is uncountable: https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/englis...

But your explanation about why it is correct is bullshit, has nothing to do with "an" vs "a", the English language is just inconsistent as fuck and some demonyms can be used like this and some can't.

Finishing up the last touches to release: https://getkatari.app/ my japanese immersion app

Also working on https://www.kinoko.sh/. An agentic engineering platform built from the ground up for agents. Custom language and architecture and a layer of formal verification on top. Also working on a custom inference engine that produces well typed programs

There are different rules on scoring, Chinese rules don't care about stones in your territory. Japanese rules do. From what the page says, this uses the traditional japanese rules (Stone Scoring)

MarceColl··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
https://katarineko.com

I think by this point everyone that is learning a language knows that immersion is very important, however a problem I've had myself is that the content that interests me is beyond my reach, and the content that is within reach doesn't interest me.

This is my attempt at doing something to remediate that. You select the content you want, and I create a personalized study plan to learn the most important words to achieve a target % of understanding. Then I generate a short story each week for your particular level containing the new words in the context of your content.

The idea is to bring the content you want to learn to your level so you can watch what you want to watch.

MarceColl··on When we get Komooted
I saw a post recently on linkedin. A founder was saying "If you had one year to live, would you still choose to work at this company? That is the bar to join <crappy nonsensical startup>". It was so incredibly sad.
