MKais··on MrBeast reveals he made $250k from X video
In ancient times, in Babylon, Egypt, Greece, the Islamic caliphate, Florence, or Venice, patrons dedicated their financial resources to promoting the most talented artists and scientists.

Today, we promote those who generate the most clicks (with clicks)

MKais··on MrBeast reveals he made $250k from X video
One rule of mine for content is: it's either learning or entertainment.

What kind of entertainment is MrBeast for you?

It's fine to pay (with clicks) for MrBeast (and Elon) to blow things up, or whatever, for the lulz.

MKais··on Ask HN: What is your policy regarding smartphones for your children?
I have two 13-years-old kids. No mobile phones. Most friends have phones. Pressure is high. Kids can use their mother's phone to answer some class group messages. Kids still surviving and thriving. Parents still resisting. Good luck everyone.
MKais··on The gamification of reading is changing how we approach books
Personal anecdote: In order to find interesting books for my children, I tried everything online but to no avail. In the end, the solution that worked best was to get recommendations from the local bookstore owner. It goes without saying that she is an excellent bookseller. But all it took was telling her, my son likes such and such book series for her to say: in that case, I think he will like this series. As a result, he read three books in three weeks. Ten more to go.
MKais··on Ways to teach kids to code (2016)
Is it still useful to teach kids how to code? I'm genuinely asking. I am the father of two 12-year-olds and I'm teaching them how to code, but I wonder if it will really be useful in the long run, in a world where there is ChatGPT, AI code assistants, and, most importantly, everything else that will emerge in the coming decade (i.e. english to code and whatnot)
MKais··on Winter temperatures above 35C in South America leave climatologists in disbelief
Here's a summary by chatGPT:

The article on The Ethical Skeptic presents an alternative theory on climate change, called the "Exothermic (Cyclic) Core Theory of Climate Change". According to this theory, recent climate change may stem from structural and exothermic phase changes in the Earth's nickel-iron core, rather than primarily from human activity. The author suggests that changes in the core's structure release latent kinetic energy (heat), which flows to the Earth's asthenosphere and deep ocean depths, becoming the genesis of most observed climate change and its long-associated geomagnetic dipole phenomena.

The theory proposes that the Earth's core undergoes extreme exothermic change, releasing heat that eventually reaches the Earth's asthenosphere. This heat accelerates the release of volatile organic compounds and methane into the atmosphere. Additionally, deep ocean currents transport this heat to the ocean surface, leading to rapid melting of polar ice caps.

The author criticizes current climate models, arguing that they fail to accurately predict temperature and CO2 increases. He suggests that his theory offers a more comprehensive explanation of global observations.

It's important to note that the author does not deny anthropogenic climate change but proposes an additional theory that could help explain observed climate changes

MKais··on Twitter Blue for $8/Month
If I'm not mistaken, a few years ago, the basic social network (facebook & Co) was valuated on this ad basis: one user = $10.

The same logic for twitter gives $45B/400M users = ~$110/user.

99% of those users are useless but 1% are not.

In my view, Twitter is a propaganda machine with its 1% influencers/journalists/prophets that overflow world media and their billions of viewers/consumers/voters.
