Linell··on The glass backbone: Why the Army's logistics will break in the next war
Do you have any more information about this?
Linell··on Show HN: Atomic – Local-first, AI-augmented personal knowledge base
I've been tinkering with my own version of this idea off and on for months, and it's great to see someone finally make the thing that I've been wanting since LLMs hit the scene. Congrats on everything you've shipped!
Linell··on Show HN: Antfly: Distributed, Multimodal Search and Memory and Graphs in Go
This is very interesting! I noticed that your TypeScript SDK link results in a 404: https://antfly.io/docs/sdks -> https://github.com/antflydb/antfly-ts
Linell··on Ask HN: Share your personal website
https://thelinell.com isn’t much, but it’s mine!
Linell··on Show HN: EchoStream – A Local AI Agent That Lives on Your iPhone
If you like this idea, I made something similar at https://saguaro.thelinell.com, although it works using various RSS feeds.
Linell··on Rewrite it in Rails
Do you have any examples of why RoR is more time consuming to refactor than other languages?
Linell··on Lowercase – A simple way to take and share notes
This comment is a little confusing unless you click through -- the pricing page says that it's free to use with no strings attached.

https://www.lowercase.app/pricing/

Linell··on Build a search engine, not a vector DB
It's worth saying that ES can work as a vector store itself, so it's very easy to handle a couple different kinds of searches this way.
Linell··on Ruby Tip – Interactive debugging without the need for gems
Another pro-tip in this vein is `object.methods` to see a list of the methods to which the object you're messing with will respond. I use this all of the time when I'm diving into something trying to figure out what's going on.
Linell··on Wikidata, with 12B facts, can ground LLMs to improve their factuality
Yes, it's called retrieval augmented generation.

Linell··on Programming languages going above and beyond
How?
Linell··on Diabetes projected to affect 1.3B people by 2050 as waistlines keep growing
I don't have links or anything handy, so take this with a bit of a grain of salt, but I _have_ seen things that confirm my anecdata that sugar free drinks are pretty horrible for your gut microbiome. I do still prefer them to their calorie-dense versions when I have one, but I think it's worth being very cautious about drinking tons of the stuff and assuming it's at all "better".
Linell··on Loneliness is stronger when not alone
I can for sure confirm that this happens! It comes from good intentions, of course.
Linell··on Ask HN: What has your personal website/blog done for you?
I wrote about my experience with this here: https://thelinell.com/The-Notion-Experiment-8191f33eaa864469...

The main idea for me was to just reduce the barrier to entry so that writing more was too easy to avoid. I already use Notion for taking notes throughout the day, so transitioning to also jotting down blog thoughts has been very easy and has increased the amount of writing that I do.

Linell··on Ask HN: Those making $0/month or less on side projects – Show and tell
A few years back I built a tool that pulled your data from MyFitnessPal and calculated a running TDEE for you, so that it was easy to adjust week to week. It was very useful to me and I managed to get somewhere in the range of 100 active users before I ended up moving on to other projects.

I say that to say good luck, I think your app will be useful!

Linell··on DRUIDS: Datadog Reusable User Interface Design System
I too have had more spam calls from Datadog than any other tech company. Their product seems great but after what feels like harassment, I’ve never wanted to give them my money.

Linell··on Iron, How Did They Make It? Part II
If you enjoy this at all, I recommend checking out the rest of this site or at least the submissions of it here on HN. There is a ton of super interesting content.
Linell··on The more senior your job title, the more you need to keep a journal (2017)
Sadly I don’t have a solution for mobile. The truth is that I mostly use it on the computer though so it really hasn’t been a problem.

My backup method is pretty simple but it’s been silently chugging along for months now without a single hiccup. It’s just a git commit via cron job: https://thelinell.com/using-vimwiki/

Linell··on The more senior your job title, the more you need to keep a journal (2017)
If you’re a Vim user, Vimwiki is awesome:

Linell··on The more senior your job title, the more you need to keep a journal (2017)
I can second using Vimwiki! I have mine set up to automatically sync with Gitlab every so often too, so it’s automatically backed up.
Linell··on Magic hat leaves behind a transformed craft beer industry in Vermont
I can't fault you for it even, don't get me wrong. It's almost as if a large segment of the population have just never tried other beers.
Linell··on Magic hat leaves behind a transformed craft beer industry in Vermont
Completely agree. A good IPA can be great, but I feel like they've become almost synonymous with craft beer in general. I've heard people order "the hoppiest beer you've got" because it's gotten to the point where hops == good_beer and it just rubs me the wrong way.
Linell··on The relationship between mindset and age (2017)
What are the behaviors?
