Lacerda69··on Oakland declares state of emergency due to ransomware attack
surely less expensive than the fallout from this
Lacerda69··on Consultancies know less than they claim and cost more than they seem to
It has been said.
Lacerda69··on Z-Library Returns on the Clearnet in Full Hydra-Mode
I wonder what they use to build this Hydra feature...
Lacerda69··on Tech Giants Are Building a Dystopia of Desperate Workers and Social Isolation
Sounds weird to me tbh.

I would never feel comfortable having someone else doing my shopping for me - unless i was severely incapacitated for some reason of course.

Same with cooking, cleaning, washing my clothes etc. I could pay someone to do that but I get a lot of joy out of basic chores I guess.

Lacerda69··on Correlation between the use of swearwords and code quality in open source code? [pdf]

Lacerda69··on Is A.I. Art Stealing from Artists?
As always with this type of headline, the answer is No
Lacerda69··on Ask HN: What made your startup fail?
damn i would do that from the first day on. if you aint selling youre dead in the water
Lacerda69··on Ask HN: What made your startup fail?
what was it?
Lacerda69··on Ask HN: What made your startup fail?
funny how this is everyones tale. basically all in this thread failed bc no customers.
Lacerda69··on Ask HN: What made your startup fail?
can you share what it was?

order food apps? shift planning app?

Lacerda69··on The Last Man (Mary Shelley novel)
Mary Shelley suprises me yet again with not only the first horror novel but also the first dystopia damn
Lacerda69··on Ask HN: Who needs beta testers?
cool idea! worked well enough for me on Chrome/Android.

As for the listings i would only use this if the products would be more "interesting". atm i was ony presented with the most bland and popular techbro gadgets.

i get that this is bc it is still in early stages but the variety and uniqueness of suggestions would be key IMO.

Lacerda69··on Stop developing this technology
an age old discussion. ultimately i prefer for this technology to be developed in the open on github and be aware of it (and able to combat nefarious use of it).

the alternative is that its being developed hidden and used by the most vile and evil without many being aware of it (which it most definitely will)

As with nuclear, the cats out of the bag or the babys bathwater(?) already spilled, no way to turn back the clock on technological innovation.

Lacerda69··on Is remote work bad for the economy?
when a headline is phrased like this the answer is always: No
Lacerda69··on Breakfast at Bäckerei Frank (2014)
i am sorry but who eats brezel with nutella, plain butter everything else is _strengstens verboten_.
Lacerda69··on Show HN: Open-source OAuth2 & OpenID server Ory Hydra v2
This has been a long time in the making, many kudos for all the hard work by the maintainers and contributors! Really excited about the integration with the ory kratos idp, should make building SSO much easier.
Lacerda69··on Being an effective environmentalist can often feel like being a bad one
Why would stop buying honey from beekeepers?
Lacerda69··on Is the psychedelic therapy bubble about to burst?
Your comment sparked some interest in me and I found this article to be very detailed and nuanced:

If you know other sources on your comment, I would love to check them out as well!

Lacerda69··on IMDB deleted all negative user reviews for The Rings of Power
>the show is not faithful to the source material.

I think it actually is pretty faithful to it. There is not a lot of sources for the 2nd age from Tolkien and they did a great job with what was there.

Most of the bad reviews are just trolls screeching about some political agenda that is completely ubrelated to the show.

Nothing that’s controlled by someone else can ever be trusted [blindly and completely].
Lacerda69··on We’ll Miss You, MetroCard Machine
Yea that is mostly right IMO. Sometimes (rarely) they will be "undercover" and wear plainclothes - you can usually spot them on the oversized handbags they carry where they store their scanning devices. Some are really good, very hard to spot them. But they always come in groups of 2+ and will enter at different doors and make eye contact with each other before they start controlling.

And yea the "clueless tourist" approach works almost always.

Lacerda69··on We’ll Miss You, MetroCard Machine
If you know what to look for you can always spot the controllers, so they are easy to avoid. not easy for foereigners of course, but honestly as tourist most public transport anywhere is confusing if you're not used to it.
Lacerda69··on We’ll Miss You, MetroCard Machine
You are correct, it was limited thing from july to august this summer. unfortunately it's over now. it had a lot of benefits, making public transport really easy for everyone was just one. it also saved a ton of co2 and enabled a lot of people to travel around the country, who werent able otherwise.

RIP 9€ ticket, you will be sorely missed:/

Lacerda69··on Tell HN: Meetup.com is offering abandoned meetups to anyone willing to pay
It's not. The link is referring to Google Developer Groups.
Lacerda69··on Tell HN: Meetup.com is offering abandoned meetups to anyone willing to pay
On that note:

Anyone know a good platform/tool to organize meetups that is not hot garbage? Ideally something that is FOSS/self-hostable.

Edit: Nevermind, FlyingSnake asked the same below and got some good answers, thanks!

Lacerda69··on Don’t teach kids to fear the world
>Should kids be taught that the world is not dangerous to make kids less likely to be tolerant?

If my kids fear that anyone who is not in their group is out to harm them, then they will become less tolerant of anyone not in their group. Dunno why you put it on the head like that?

Lacerda69··on Mimetic Traps
I agreed with all his points but the Twitter one.

Alternatively I would propose to work a job in a wildly different field for a few months, for example waiting tables, in a grocery or at a recycling company. Your horizon will be exploded by the people you meet and work with.

Lacerda69··on Customize your Slack sound notifications
The first thing I do on every new machine is to turn off all and every kind of notification including sound - especially Slack notifications those drive me insane...

Thanks for sharing though!

Lacerda69··on Ask HN: Does your personal page get any interaction?
>you maintain your website just for fun and you find it fulfilling?

This.

Also I use it as a public repository of information I either often forget and have to look up again or want to have accessible everywhere easily (for example recipes, restaurant recommendations and git conmands)

Ultimalely I just like tinkering on a website without pressure to perform well in aspects that are business relevant.
