Kuyawa··on Show HN: Briff – Site Summarizer
I changed it to 6 lowercase random chars, good enough for 300 million pages

Even if the slug is not very informative, there is no way to rickroll like in other link shorteners

Briff site, briff link

Kuyawa··on Show HN: Briff – Site Summarizer
One thing has been bothering me and I'd like to change is the site url slug, it uses five words of the title plus some random anti-duplicate suffix, but I'd like to change it to just the random id so it's shorter

The long slug tells you what the link is about, the short slug doesn't but it's more portable

Archive.org uses short ids and people don't complain, should I change it to short id instead of long slug?

Kuyawa··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
Shouldn't it be a WhatsApp contact? Just like a bot but with extra powers. Why a separate app?

I may/not download it but if it was a WhatsApp Assistant it would already be installed in a billion devices, just like Siri

I know it's not 'just a bot', it's an agent, assistant, whatever, but it's code and can be included in some other code with the same capabilities as if stand-alone

Kuyawa··on Ask HN: Fable hacked my piano, can I release the results?
Release the code, let the whole world copy it, if they sent you a cease and desist letter, just take it down and say 'oops sorry'

Addiction, it's a kind of addiction impossible to fight

I am 60yo and I code everyday for the sake of it. I use AI extensively as it helps me create more apps than before, one every couple of days. I don't sell them, I hoard them like if having more apps makes my universe bigger. My addiction has no sense at all but I don't try to fight it as it produces immense frustration and much greater pleasure, and that extreme change in moods is what makes the addiction stronger, just like a gambler or a fentanyl abuser

That's me, and I don't want to be cured

Kuyawa··on A/I shuts down
In anarchism, democracy and voting are considered flawed

An ignorant/manipulated majority can not decide over my natural rights. 51% of men can not vote in favor of raping 49% of women, that's why 49% of women should be armed and capable of mutually assured destruction as a deterrent (pick gender, race, religion, whatever, applies to all minorities). That's just philosophy, in real life the powerful fucks the weak, and that's how it works. 'Disarm the people' is the first step in the road to slavery. Of course an armed disfunctional society like the US is also not the best solution to the problems the state creates. So we keep thinking and philosophizing, until that day comes...

Btw, I am a philosophical anarchist, I don't throw molotovs or wear masks but I do hate the state with a passion, and I like to think about how a free world should work, and currently the US is the antithesis of that

Kuyawa··on AI, Tools and Transformation

Kuyawa··on AI, Tools and Transformation
> It’s very tempting to imagine that AI turns everyone into a tool-builder

It is not imagination, it is the undeniable truth. The quality of the tool is proportional to the competency of the builder, it always has been that way, AI makes the building process shorter by a magnitude

Kuyawa··on Music Theory for Programmers
Musicians will cringe, programmers will rejoice, let them

'Intro to audio for programmers' would keep them away and let us have a party in the comments telling the author how interesting the tutorial was. Never use the word 'Music' again and you'll be safe

Kudos, every work of creation is a joy on its own, I was fascinated clicking every button

Kuyawa··on Show HN: Fly By – retro biplane flying game
Loved it. That's exactly what AI should be used for. Something that would take us one month at least, full of bugs, AI now delivers in less than a day, ready to ship

This is the essence, AI is a super power, the world is ours

Kuyawa··on .gitignore Everything by Default
Create a /src and a /wrk folder in the root of your project. Put all the code in src, all the stupid files in wrk, like todo.txt, code snippets, downloaded media for design, references, notes, etc then just add DS_store and wrk to gitignore

The habit of putting everything in /wrk folder will grow on you. Sometimes wrk folder is bigger than src

Kuyawa··on The Real Luxuries In Life
I am 60 too and I'd add to that list 'Doing the things you like'

I love letting my mind 'play' with the computer, not work, play

And I love pickleball, going to the gym, and watching movies with my wife. My life has become really simple and I enjoy it the most. Yeah, peace of mind is at the top of the list at this age

Kuyawa··on Corporate America is getting hooked on open-source AI
America's own demise will be made in America, stamped by American laws
Kuyawa··on Corporate America is getting hooked on open-source AI
The innovative edge markup already faded and the race is to the bottom, more features, more reach, less cost. It's going to be extremely hard to recoup those giant investments. No, the bubble won't pop, it already popped and morphed at the speed of AI that we didn't even notice, money just realigned, llms keep pushing the frontier, and peripherals are gaining momentum

The race is still on

Kuyawa··on Show HN: Linux server management over SSH – written in Rust and Tauri
Is there any webview control ready to use in linux? When I say Tauri it's just the webview control, used as a cargo package as "wry" in macos. I don't care about the framework itself, just the webview control. If that's the case then Rust/(stripped down WebView) is all we need to be honest

Edit: Looks like the same "wry" package can be used in linux

> A Pigouvian automation tax can

The government will try at all costs to implement an AI tax, just because they can and because that's their job, to fleece us all. Then they will try in the name of 'peace/climate/asteroid/terrorism' to make the whole world comply or China will eat their lunch

Kuyawa··on Show HN: Linux server management over SSH – written in Rust and Tauri
Beautiful, I have a fetish for beautiful software so here goes my upvote ^

I believe more Rust/Tauri apps will flood the market as that's the best combo right now for desktop apps in universal knowledge reusability for those who come from the web world HTML, CSS, JS. Simplicity and portablility

Just downloaded it and at 8MB is a thing of joy to see apps small again

Kuyawa··on Show HN: My startup-idea scanner scored 500 ideas; the best got 6.3/10
I like the idea, website looks cool, palette is not the common blue on dark, I've seen z.ai use that palette a lot (not implying it's AI generated, it doesn't matter, I won't judge, just a coincidence)

I wanted to post an idea but couldn't, is it possible?

Kuyawa··on No AI Fridays
AI 24/7

> Study after study shows that using LLMs can cause you to accumulate cognitive debt, make you less engaged with your work, negatively impact your critical thinking abilities, and hamper your skill formation.

False

I've learned more, I am more engaged, it has positively impacted my critical thinking abilities and has increased my skill formation

For me it's AI 24/7 even on sundays

Kuyawa··on Ask HN: Any true alternatives to electron JavaScript?
I use a 1MB Rust shell with a webview (wry and winit). It works wonders

Drop a SQLite db if you want a quick portable app, or postgresql if something more robust on your server.

Tell your AI of choice [2] to create a TODO rust app [1] in html, css and js using wry and winit and you'll see what I mean, a thing of beauty

Kuyawa··on Markdown Database Pattern
I like OKF but...

I told AI to improve on that format and told me having to read all files just to get the frontmatter data is optimizable, sooo... to the trenches B)

AI > The problem with Frontmatter+YAML is O(n) read complexity. To know if a file is a "Person" or a "Meeting Note," the parser must read the entire file into memory, parse the YAML block, and then discard the content. For a vault of 10,000+ files, this becomes a massive I/O bottleneck

Kuyawa··on The turbulent AI era is here
> Countries need cross-agency bodies, and an international organization must be built in parallel — combining elements of nuclear inspections, aviation regulation, and ozone treaties, including US–China cooperation

I see, so force china to cooperate or label them as terrorists in the same vein of irak/iran nuclear capabilities

Kuyawa··on Serve Markdown to AI Agents with Accept Headers
Interesting...

A cherry.jpg image/jpeg file is shown as an image by the browser

A logo in svg like https://news.ycombinator.com/y18.svg too

So browsers should show readme.md as text/markdown and clicking on a link inside that file should also redirect to another markdown file, instant wiki

Browsers should implement that asap and we will follow

Kuyawa··on Show HN: A techno machine in one HTML file, with verifiable renders
No it doesn't, you can use a local web viewer, less than 2mb. I made one in rust, but don't use it since I have my browser open all the time
