What the EU gonna do then? Stop buying computers? Perform rapid continental ARM transition for mythical amount of money?
Yes. Answers like "until it sounds differently" just cause more questions while being the actual answers. How the hell am I supposed to explain "that different sound". After some time you just start to feel it.
Well, it's pretty good for multi-monitor setup. Dedicating the whole monitor for the image without endless panels in the way is convenient.
But having an older version can be useful too because some features from previous releases may be missing in current ones, so that's a way to ensure access to the old files. A couple of years ago all the Pantone colours used in Photoshop just became black after an update because Adobe stopped licensing Pantone stuff.
I wonder how did he come to such a prediction. When was the last time we had a war over advanced tech? Armies didn't fight over telegraph, radio, phones and cars.
A war to get AI would also be foolish. A few hundred bombs from your adversaries and AI won't have electricity to function.
1. Put some of the forbidden symbols in the file names of, let's say, a bunch of photos.
2. ZIP them
3. Send to someone who ordered those photos with Windows/Linux computer.
4. An hour later tell them that everything works on your computer and you don't see the problem. As a bonus you can film unpacking the zip file and saying: "You see, it works. There's something wrong with your computer".
Year 2024. Now we use more computing power to make computers remember things worse.
I use Black Box as a terminal app, but Nautilus will open only default distro-provided terminal application with its menu.
In GNOME Clocks:
- You cannot set the name for a timer when creating iy. You need to set the time and start it first, then either pause and reset it or wait for completion. And only then the text field for timer's name appear.
- Timer sound is just a single bell that's easy to miss when you are busy with something like cooking. No repeats, no additional dialogs or highlights. Just a single notification and timer resets.
Nautilus (Files):
- Does not focus a file/folder for keyboard navigation after entering a folder using keyboard navigation (arrow keys and Enter). Maybe I'm missing something, but that's my experience with resorting to mouse or pressing Tab.
- "Open in Terminal" opens folders only in GNOME's default terminal. There's no way in GNOME Settings to set the default application for terminal either.
GNOME Weather:
- The width of hourly weather graph/chart is limited. Even if you have a big monitor and will maximize it, you will have to scroll horizontally to see the further than ~10 hours.

It's an old laptop. Totally adequate for scrolling web, watching movies and arguing about very important stuff on Hacker News. There is no way to change GPU there or switch to integrated Intel one.
1. Install the editor version free from proprietary stuff from big corporation
2. Install a proprietary editor extension by big corporation
3. ?????
I don't think anybody can come up with better intentional snubs at Nvidia than the Nvidia itself.
When it comes to their older graphics hardware, their drivers just refuse to work with newer kernels. GPU was capable to draw windows and play videos for a decade, but then, after a kernel update, it doesn't even show 1024x768 "garbage". Just black screen.
So effectively, buying Nvidia to use with Linux equals to buying hardware with expiration date.
It's not a sure thing. Out of a bunch of mass produced monitors sharing the same model number and specs, some may still malfunction not reporting the correct EDID.
My friend asked me to write a userscript that simulates pressing the "Skip ad" button, so he won't stain his mouse with grease while eating.
Checking if there is a "Skip ad" button every quarter of a second and invoking its click() method eliminated the video ads completely. As it turns out, the button existed alongside the 5 second countdown, just wasn't visible.
I don't know if it still works the same way today, but it felt good to accidentally make an effective adblock with five lines of code.
Microsoft isn't a stranger to distribution restrictions and software usage limitations. I remember uploading Visual C# Express 2010 (freely downloaded from Microsoft's website, without license keys) to a local file sharing website to ease the downloading for my local study group and got a letter from Microsoft's lawyer to take it down.
After that our study group transitioned to Mono with Monodevelop.
Since the YouTube marks ads, I guess pulling the playlist twice won't really be needed. YouTube's player should somehow know when the ad starts and when it ends after all.
