Joona··on Ask HN: Which Linux distribution you are currently using?
Latest Debian netinstall if I do use Linux.
Joona··on Ask HN: How to learn language?
My suggestion has always been playing games. I learned English purely from playing Runescape. Pick a (multiplayer) game like World of Warcraft or Minecraft and find an English-speaking group to play with.
Joona··on Ask HN: Recovery of blacked out text
Maybe something of this sort? http://dheera.net/projects/blur Just get the font and do comparison on what fits, if there's too many results, you could use a dictionary.
Joona··on Ask HN: What is the most you've paid for a domain name?
They must be feeling stupid now that SSDs are becoming commonplace. :)
Joona··on Ask HN: What is the best affordable programmable drone?

   >I get about 6-7 minutes of flying time with a 3-cell 2200mah lipo
This seems like a rather short time. Are there any alternatives that would fly for a longer time? Petrol maybe?
Joona··on The Pirate Bay is an FBI honeypot? A disconcertingly plausible conspiracy theory
Like who? The uploaders behind seven proxies? It's a better idea to trace the initial seeds, although even those are likely to be anonymous/hacked seedboxes.
Joona··on The Internet of Gas Station Tank Gauges
>Yeah - about 40% of them have the management port open. I can see how they could be bricked. Not good.

Joona··on WhatSim, a SIM Card for WhatsApp
That sounds very good (sadly she isn't from the UK), and seems like a good deal until the roaming regulations change.
Joona··on WhatSim, a SIM Card for WhatsApp
Sorry, EU. Hopefully this happens though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union_roaming_regulati...
Joona··on WhatSim, a SIM Card for WhatsApp
A friend of mine is getting one, as she doesn't want to get roaming charges during her vacation, but still wants to talk to people on WhatsApp. Seems to solve this problem quite well. :)
Joona··on What should I do about YouTube?
That's a shame. Would it be possible to encode with specific settings (ffmpeg) and not have it re-encoded? Re-encoding butchers my videos terribly.
Joona··on NHL partners with GoPro to deliver fans unique perspectives of the game
Oh, that's great. Maybe they will have an 3G connection some day so we can stream directly from the device to the internet. :)
Joona··on What should I do about YouTube?
Do they re-encode videos?
Joona··on NHL partners with GoPro to deliver fans unique perspectives of the game
I'm not sure, but I don't think GoPros have streaming functionality, so maybe showing off the technology (and advertising it)?
Joona··on Show HN: Hacker News' “most unique support email of 2014”
That is very impressive. Almost as fast, or maybe even faster than me answering on IRC!
Joona··on Ask HN: What services and software do you pay for?
Just for personal use, and I'm not exactly a hacker either:

  Webtropia - Server hosting
  Gandi & OVH - Domains
Dxtory - DirectX/OpenGL capture (one time)
I also have a free student account on Github, plus $100 credit on Digital Ocean I should use. Mostly I use free/open source software though (Photoshop CS2 worth a mention?).
Joona··on WhatsApp doesn't understand the web
Not really. I want a replacement for Skype (just for text chat). That includes desktop.
Joona··on WhatsApp doesn't understand the web
I want to chat, and WhatsApp is not letting me do that.
Joona··on WhatsApp doesn't understand the web
Sailfish itself is much better than anything I have ever used - it's clearly designed for touchscreens. For hackers it's awesome because it's actually a Linux, and you can access shell (as a root, too).

Android support is a bit buggy though - for example Skype sometimes breaks (can not send messages), but Spotify and WhatsApp have worked perfectly fine.

If you are interested in it, they dropped the price a while back (down to 250eur).

Joona··on WhatsApp doesn't understand the web
I have a Jolla (Sailfish) phone. I can not use the web client, because I need an Android, Windows or Blackberry phone. WhatsApp does however work fine on my phone (via Alien Dalvik).

This "web client" is not actually a web client - it's just an app for your phone that you can display on your computer monitor.

Joona··on 1,800 Minecraft players' email addresses and passwords leak
Sounds like the list that has been circulating for months. Dinnerbone (developer) commented on it on Twitter, I think.

Joona··on Ask HN: Are Internet speed tests accurate?
No. Servers get saturated, some links are slower than others and your ISP may prioritize the traffic. Best way of testing I know of is either using your own server or grabbing a null file from a known host (at least funet in Finland).
Joona··on NASA’s sounds are now on SoundCloud
Sadly it seems to only be short clips (<30 seconds), and not longer recordings (from launch, etc). Cool nonetheless.
Joona··on Moved ~/.local/share/steam. Ran steam. It deleted everything owned by user
>I suspect they don't perform code reviews.

It certainly seems that way. CSGO (their FPS) is notorious for updates that break things, like very recently a gun having less ammo than it should, or masks (halloween thing, I think) being rendered through smoke (a crucial feature of the game).

Joona··on A Customer Review: Finnish Education System
There's still a vocotional on one of the titles.
Joona··on A Customer Review: Finnish Education System
A few typos (maybe you should run the text through a spell checker):

  Vocotional -> Vocational
  didn’t knew -> didn't know
  univerity -> university
