I_dev_outdoors··on Ask HN: What are the largest static sites you know of?
You could host on AWS or GCP which doesn't have any limits.
I_dev_outdoors··on 'Old white guy' can move forward with workplace bias suit against AT&T
Maybe they meant non-hispanic
I_dev_outdoors··on Ask HN: Which programming games helped you become a better programmer?
Find yourself a MUD (something like www.dsl-mud.org), which is a text based DND type game, and start learning how to capture text and automate in game actions.

Just by trying to automate something like character creation rolls, you'll learn a lot.

I_dev_outdoors··on Ask HN: Best Way to Search for Lyrics?
can you understand anything they are saying? You should include text you expect to see (partial lyrics) as a quoted string in such a way that is unlikely to have line breaks on the lyrics page.
I_dev_outdoors··on Ask HN: If Kubernetes is the solution, why are there so many DevOps jobs?
I'm not new to Kubernetes and I've been using containers since Solaris zones were introduced.
I_dev_outdoors··on Tell HN: Transfer your Google domain to other registrar before it locks you out
This is the difference. There was something fastmail was doing that I didn't like and someone followed up with me to find out what's going on and try to solve my problem for me. It was also someone with real knowledge and power to get something done as well.
I_dev_outdoors··on Ask HN: Advice for a Generalist Going Solo?
I'd say it's less painful as you're closer to retirement since a large portion of your earnings are coming from compounding interest.
I_dev_outdoors··on Ask HN: If Kubernetes is the solution, why are there so many DevOps jobs?
I probably wouldn't do this, but what problem does this cause?
I_dev_outdoors··on Apple Removes Flag Icons in Monterey 12.4
Having a flag displayed isn't apparently worth dealing with the controversy. Decisions like this make me feel like software isn't really designed for people.
I_dev_outdoors··on Why isn’t new technology making us more productive?
My dentist has a PBX setup so that when you call and you don't get anyone or leave a voicemail, you get a link in a SMS with a link to schedule a call back.
I_dev_outdoors··on Ask HN: What are the best ways you've seen for turning money into happiness?
Flying a plane.
I_dev_outdoors··on Heroku CI and Review App Secrets Compromised
I agree with you, that's what they meant. Just like Go is referred to as golang by the community, maybe render can be referred to as rendercloud.
I_dev_outdoors··on Tell HN: I probably spend more on piracy than if I just paid for content
Who's going to mirror some low bitrate files they can download again off the internet.

If anything, assume something more reasonable like, 4x8 2x parity drives. 6 of those, that'd be $1200.

I_dev_outdoors··on I stopped to watch kids playing at recess – security was called
So, like an error budget that would exist in the SRE world?
I_dev_outdoors··on Ask HN: Why do search engines not let you blacklist spam domains?
I just signed up myself.

I like how they ask you what features you want as you are signing up. I mentioned that I want to be able to vote on results and have my own results prioritized by the votes of me and my peers.

I_dev_outdoors··on Fixing memory leaks in popular Python libraries
At first I thought this blog was related to Paul's Math Notes, https://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/, but this is a different Paul that lives in a different part of TX.
I_dev_outdoors··on Turing Pi 2: 4 Raspberry Pi nodes on a mini ITX board
There's plenty of Mini-ITX motherboards which accept a socket-ed processor though. It's less of a specialty form factor these days where only VIA is participating in and something that more mainstream manufactures are making as well such as Gigabyte and ASUS.
I_dev_outdoors··on WD My Book users wake up to find their data deleted
These programs are opt-in and normally come with incentives like a $75 gift card or a free thermostat.

It's possible that people are using thermostats that are still provisioned to the previous tenets electrical bill.

It's a important technological achievement to be able to shift and schedule loads so that we can switch to more efficient energy sources. Requiring the power generation companies to service the upper percentage of usage is a lot of expensive environmentally as well as economically.

I_dev_outdoors··on Ask HN: How to know if public WiFi is secure?
You know it's secure if your trusted and secure VPN can connect through it.

Otherwise, there's really no way to know what they are doing behind the scenes.

I_dev_outdoors··on Ask HN: Experience with Moving from Arch Linux to Mac
I was going to eventually write a blog post on this that kinda focused on some of the tools to use and how to configure things to be more linux like, but I never got around to it. Some tools of note though to look into are: - Karabiner-elements - iStats Menu (paid) - Easy Move + Resize - Rectangle
I_dev_outdoors··on Tell HN: Mailgun disabled our domain without notice
Yes and no. It looks like there are at least two different tools creating users on my platform. One of them looks likes it's using chromedriver, and the other one has a varying user agent but some other constant things that they do.

In my case, it's pretty easy to tell a real user from who has an email that matches up with the username and what form they used to signup.

I_dev_outdoors··on Tell HN: Mailgun disabled our domain without notice
I'm having the same issue with a project I'm working on. Did you end up doing anything to mitigate random signups with fake emails? For me, they all follow the same pattern so I can usually guess which users are fake but I haven't been able to programmatically block them yet.
