From the title I was imagining an uncontacted tribe like the Sentinelese https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentinelese
IAmLiterallyAB··on All I want for Christmas is these seven TypeScript improvements
It may be a rendering bug, but this page is incredibly frustrating to read on Firefox mobile, with the Buy the Book/ Subscribe banner sitting directly in the center of the screen when I scroll down.
IAmLiterallyAB··on Meson Build System 1.0
Don't know about the others but for LTO on CMake there is https://cmake.org/cmake/help/latest/prop_tgt/INTERPROCEDURAL...
IAmLiterallyAB··on C++23: std:out_ptr and std:inout_ptr
While herb did a talk about `in` and `out` parameters, it is very different than this concept.
IAmLiterallyAB··on The lonely runner conjecture
chias knows what a hypercube is. Their complaint is it isn't the tangible/practical implication they were hoping for.
IAmLiterallyAB··on PolyMC compromised by rogue developer having unabomber manifesto in steam bio
I see nothing like that in the Git commit history? What are you talking about?

Edit: it looks like some randos opened some PRs in the past couple hours. But that was after he already went rogue and kicked everyone?

IAmLiterallyAB··on We don’t need a third party. We need ranked choice voting
I'm a big fan of alternative voting methods. But I'm always a bit frustrated that ranked choice (or really it's IRV) is always the go-to. I'd much prefer a score based method like STAR voting. It's more expressive, scores carry more information than a ranking. It does a much better job at eliminating strategic voting. And it's still dead simple at the voting booth
IAmLiterallyAB··on New integer types I’d like to see
Exactly. In fact, I would go far as to make this the _only_ integer type. u16, u32 etc can just be typedefs.

The ability to be precise with integer ranges could prevent many types of arithmetic and OOB errors.

IAmLiterallyAB··on Cppfront, Herb Sutter's proposal for a new C++ syntax
Modules are a huge benefit for compile times
IAmLiterallyAB··on CppCon 2022
I don't know that they've "fizzled out" it just takes a while. There have been papers this year on reflection, comparing different versions of it. I'm hopeful for that and exceptions making it in soon-ish
IAmLiterallyAB··on Google Pixel 6 still freezes when calling Emergency Services
Oh is it? I'll have to look into that
IAmLiterallyAB··on Google Pixel 6 still freezes when calling Emergency Services
This is the first phone running a Google chipset, and Google CPU. And a Google modem I believe. Their previous phones were Qualcomm based. I imagine a lot of the issues people are seeing are related to that, a mix of hardware flaws and driver bugs.
IAmLiterallyAB··on Dead USB Drives Are Fine: Building a Reliable Sneakernet
If P2P wasn't so awful we could just download from computer to computer. But alas, NAT and IPv4 make that difficult
IAmLiterallyAB··on Why is the OpenBSD documentation so good?
selling texinfo manuals? I don't understand, has that happened?
IAmLiterallyAB··on Memzoom – view/monitor the raw memory of processes/files in your UTF-8 terminal
I'm not sure if text is the ideal way to look at memory. Perhaps something like a color gradient. With special cases for 0x00 and 0xff. But the Hilbert curve is neat.
IAmLiterallyAB··on Minecraft mod that runs RISC-V Linux
Ah yes that could work. Was a little weary about packaging native code, but if other mod developers are doing it it might be a good path.

I'm currently working on calling the C fenv API using the new Java Foreign Function & Memory API, all from pure Java.

To be clear, I'm not the dev behind OC2, just messing with it as a hobbie.

IAmLiterallyAB··on Minecraft mod that runs RISC-V Linux
I've been working on speeding up floating point calculations for the RISC-V emulator used by this mod. The trouble is Java doesn't have full IEEE 754 support, specifically features like rounding rules and exceptions. So to support these in the emulator, floating point calculations are done in software.
IAmLiterallyAB··on Writing a Linux-compatible kernel in Rust
Does Ada also have something similar to the borrow checker? That is, forbidding bad memory access at compile time. I'm not familiar with Ada
IAmLiterallyAB··on Convert macros to functions in the Python C API
The same (and more) stack space will be used if it was called as a regular function, whether that's preserving registers across the call boundary or simply running out of registers. So this shouldn't save any space, temporarily or otherwise.
IAmLiterallyAB··on The Perfect Voxel Engine
For a detailed look at picking a good data structure for voxel engines, I'd recommend this fantastic article https://0fps.net/2012/01/14/an-analysis-of-minecraft-like-en...
IAmLiterallyAB··on Apple's Power Move to Kneecap Facebook Advertising Is Working
"shift to crypto" mmm that seems unlikely
IAmLiterallyAB··on Mozilla has defeated Microsoft’s default browser protections in Windows
That's not what they said?? I assume by "change the voting system" they mean to use something like IRV or STAR voting
IAmLiterallyAB··on 17B life years could be saved if air pollution was reduced to WHO standards
It's perfectly acceptable to round in an article summary like this. Such a ridiculous thing to complain about
IAmLiterallyAB··on 17B life years could be saved if air pollution was reduced to WHO standards
...I swear HN comments get dumber every day. Is this satire???
IAmLiterallyAB··on An app for M1 Macs that plays the sound of a fan as CPU usage goes up
Err, same with Android? And every OS ever. That's just standard process isolation. Or am I misunderstanding something?
IAmLiterallyAB··on GitHub scraped your code. And they plan to charge you
Because if you use GPL code, you must release your use/changes under the GPL. That's why the GPL is often called infectious. If copilot spits out GPL code verbatim, the user of the code must respect the license.
IAmLiterallyAB··on GitHub Copilot
Someone tell Gödel
IAmLiterallyAB··on Rust is not a company
You can use new features from new Rust versions/compilers on old editions, as long as the new features don't require backwards incompatible changes. You can't use features from new C++ standards when targeting an older standard.

How on earth would that work for their product? They need to access the data so they can render it.
