Hilliard_Ohiooo··on I built a low-latency AI companion that plays Skyrim with me
Video game seem like the perfect fit for llm use and I don't understand why it hasn't happened already.
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on US Military's cyber command unit grapples with cluster of deaths by suicide
Took me a year to get my secret clearance in the military, I promise you no one gives a s** about anything you say once you're out. It is a fun way to feel self-important though :-)

I was a part of the world's largest illegal operation in history and again I promise you no one gives a s**.

Hilliard_Ohiooo··on US Military's cyber command unit grapples with cluster of deaths by suicide
I was in the military and in my experience people that chose to go into war zones, it's optional, are fucked in the head and literally enjoy killing people, I've seen it a dozen times. They want to kill.
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on US Military's cyber command unit grapples with cluster of deaths by suicide
Yes, the US government is literally everywhere.

Hilliard_Ohiooo··on _for-sale DNS records
Making things easier, and more profitable, for domain squatters is exactly the wrong direction to be going in! I hate how the internet has turned to squeezing every last penny out of its users. This is pathetic and raw.
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on OpenAI serves more than one billion active users
It's not a surprise, it's 100% marketing.
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Increasing the lifespan of a bulb makes it worse in every other way
I do something similar and all my Philips hue bulbs are going strong after 7 to 8 years. I think people just get upset with themselves for being cheap.
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Increasing the lifespan of a bulb makes it worse in every other way
I agree, my Philips hue bulbs have been going strong for about 7 to 8 years now I'm not a single issue. I think people are just buying cheap bulbs then getting upset that they bought cheap bulbs.
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Increasing the lifespan of a bulb makes it worse in every other way
I bought all new Philip hue bulbs going on 7 or 8 years ago now and not a single one has gone bad. Maybe you're just buying cheap poor quality bulbs?

A 100 out of 100 success rate after 8 years.

Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Politician reads AI prompt during assembly [video]
This is gonna be happening more and more!
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on LEDs’ potential to save our night skies
I'm just one experience but my view was aside from a passing comment on a shooting star no one cared. Much more inteted in playing PlayStation, porn and seeking liquor on board.
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on LEDs’ potential to save our night skies
Yes, really. Narcissistic people act out little plays for themselves and others, like op here "sleeping under the stars"..., it's a performance they are putting on for themselves and social media.
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Jack Dorsey launches Buzz to combine team chat, AI agents and Git hosting
Lightning network is a vaporware scam that has never and will never work. It's purpose was to convince idiots that Bitcoin hadn't been taken over when it actually had been by the private company, Blockstream.

> They are a random number generator that are just insanely good at giving you the number that you want...

Well, you definitely have the absolute worst definition and least understanding of what an llm is of anyone I've ever met, that's interesting.

Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Mythologizing AI makes it more likely that we’ll fail to operate it well (2023)
To answer for OP:

We are now calling text and image generators "intelligent" in the same way a spell checker is intelligent.

Whatever it's become, "AI" research started as a way to study digital neurology, or how to digitize a mind, not just how to generate data.

The Turing Test should have had a caveat, it needs to fool a, "non-stupid" person, and we still have not gotten even close to passing that version.

Hilliard_Ohiooo··on LEDs’ potential to save our night skies
It's not that big a deal for MOST people. I was on navy ships transiting the Pacific it's as dark as it can get on deck and sure, it's magical and spectacular (especially the NUMBER OF SHOOTING STARS!) but even in the middle of the ocean 99% of my fellow sailors could not have given less of a shit. I'd sit out there for hours and they all though I was a weirdo for it. So, while amazing, most people don't understand or care to understand the enormity of what's going on around them.

Most people didn't care about dark skys in the first place and still don't.

Hilliard_Ohiooo··on I think I have LLM burnout
That ALL sounds horrible, is that really life in tech these days?
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on PeerTube is a free, decentralized and federated video platform
Exactly, but good luck convincing a horde of morons of it
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on PeerTube is a free, decentralized and federated video platform
It's hard to discuss things online because the dumb people will make stuff up, then when you correct it they disappear but leave the wrong info up, confusing even more dumb people. Like an idiot-tsunami growing ever larger
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Steam Machine launches today
What?
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Fully autonomous drones have killed human soldiers for the first time
Let's go boys! The AI war is so fucking on!!!
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Automate your version control with, GitMo
For a long time I've wanted something like an automatic syncing app for GitHub. I'm not sure why this doesn't exist yet so spent a couple days throwing this together.
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Tulip mania: when a single flower was worth more than a house (2025)
So many of these articles get it completely wrong. Economically. People weren't going crazy for tulips just because, the government had incentivized investment in tulips. The government at the time basically told people that they could not lose money on investing tulips. It should be a story about governments misallocating resources. That's it, but people quit. Keep twisting it into a story of psychology and mania which it was not.
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Spain blocks prediction markets Polymarket, Kalshi over lack of gambling licence
Oh no, gambling bad!

And don't forget about the kids and what possibly could happen maybe someday!

Hilliard_Ohiooo··on eBay Rejects GameStop's $56B Takeover as Not Credible
Exactly, especially if they have to immediately start repaying $10's of billions in debt that GameStop wanted to put them in. Whole thing is just dumb of the CEO.
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Stop paying twice for storage. Use your spare webhosting as your own cloud drive
Thank you! What I'm thinking is a Gdrive replacement for my phone/desktop that I host myself.

Can I ask, what do you mean with plenty of programs that sync over scp...? Just using like Filezilla is the same really.

Hilliard_Ohiooo··on Stop paying twice for storage. Use your spare webhosting as your own cloud drive
Wow, interesting thank you! I figured they track upload/download rates so as long as you stay within. I will watch it close, thanks!
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on GameStop makes $55.5B takeover offer for eBay
Just bought a used switch there yesterday, 2 guys are selling or trading some kind of game card, kid and his dad getting a PS4... Like you say, no one goes to game stop anymore, it's too crowded ;)
Hilliard_Ohiooo··on How Monero’s proof of work works
Lightning Network, ready in 18 months for the last 5 years! Lol.
