That was well covered in another episode.
HappyJoy··on [dead]
Anecdotally, I seen many of my coworkers switch from Dell to Mac and we're almost exclusively a dotnet shop. The only thing stopping me from 11 is low disk space but it's really just a matter of time. Pretty sure I'll follow on to mac

What happens to the IP when this happens? If the product works but wasn't supported by the right company how does it not get picked up by someone more competent?

HappyJoy··on Boom XB-1 First Supersonic Flight [video]
There's a company called Airhart that's trying to bring Fly-By-Wire to GA. But (at least in the US) I think innovation would be better focused on regulations - looking at you aeromedical specifically.
HappyJoy··on All Garmin Connect services are down
They don't. Glass avionics have a charts database that's physically updated about every month

The movie Contact makes mention of Jansky - "Reading over a hundred Janskys". Thought it was a made up unit at the time
HappyJoy··on Can Microsoft Flight Simulator help me learn to fly or make me a better pilot?
Fwiw, I spent a good amount of time with the flight sim and pilot's edge for IRA and I think it saved me a ton of money. The flying was the easiest part
HappyJoy··on Celebrity Flights
Idk what you're flying but they're costing about 500 w/ tip these days
HappyJoy··on Show HN: Aviation navigation log on $20 receipt printer
Thanks so much for sharing. I wrapped up instrument earlier this year entirely in a TAA. Went out with my CFII a few times in steam gauge because I felt like I was missing out
HappyJoy··on Show HN: Aviation navigation log on $20 receipt printer
It's hard to find NDB approaches at all anymore. Did you do IR in the US? The FAA from what I've read doesn't even encourage an instrument checkride in IMC. That's crazy you did it twice.

HappyJoy··on Paper map sales are booming
Oh, yes! My Dad used to have these made for our summer road trips. I used to love pouring over the maps before the trip to get hyped up. Then, in the car, following along as we drove. I forgot about that till your comment reminded me. Thanks for the nostalgia!

HappyJoy··on Barnes and Noble's surprising turnaround
I wrote a bunch of LOB software for B&N's CS and B2B departments early in my career. I loved working there and I'm very happy to see an article like this.
HappyJoy··on Ask HN: I’m 41 and still unmarried – what should I do?
Oh, sorry. That's rough. I got to the point where I was going to start invoicing dating websites for all the money I spent on dating (food, booze, time spent). I was in the upper double digits and almost gave up. I eventually just started giving potential partners more time. Some more than I should have. Eventually, I found "the one." I think it takes me time to build relationships I feel comfortable in. Maybe that's you too The rub is, time is the one thing nobody can get more of. Best of luck.

HappyJoy··on ‘Enforced childbirth is slavery’: Margaret Atwood on the right to abortion
Nope, had protected sex with my wife and got pregnant (pill plus condom). We weren't ready for a kid and had an abortion. It's not black and white. Please, don't make it out to be.
