When I launched my ISP in Michigan I once showed a VP of engineering at ITT Automotive my business card with with my email address. This was 1993. He said "I will never need an an email address." :-)

Imagine what they would have said about the older 'bang-separated node-trail' addresses that we used with UUCP.
