H4CK3RM4N··on Opera is Reborn
That's why I don't use Chrome.
H4CK3RM4N··on Opera is Reborn
1) Google

I don't trust them.

2) Apple

Previous stands on privacy/security, knowledge of where they make actually make money and widely spread shareholder base/publicly identifiable managers.

3) Firefox(Moz://a)

It's a bit for profit and everything of theirs is open source, and therefore auditable.

H4CK3RM4N··on Opera is Reborn
Safari has their pinned tab which makes it easily accessible, if not always open.
H4CK3RM4N··on Opera is Reborn
At this point your browser is your OS(with Blink as the kernel, Chrome(ium) as the init/package manager and Opera as the DE), so something like this does makes sense. I just wish that web developers would realise how terrible of an idea this trend is.
H4CK3RM4N··on Transport app Citymapper trials its own smart bus service in London
I love that the second world is implicitly the soviet countries, but it's disappeared from common use.
H4CK3RM4N··on The Future of Ad Blocking: An Analytical Framework and New Techniques [pdf]
YouTube in particular is really unbearable without adblock.
H4CK3RM4N··on Don’t Let Facebook Make You Miserable
I once saw those behaviours described as "idle animations"(on Reddit of all places).
H4CK3RM4N··on Don’t Let Facebook Make You Miserable
You could replace the AI bit with 'reporters' who are trained to collate and edit the news, in order to give it a human touch.
H4CK3RM4N··on More Android phones than ever are covertly listening for inaudible sounds in ads
I think that works based on location. A few years ago there were reports of people who shared a psychiatrist being recommended to each other, based on their frequent visits to the office.
H4CK3RM4N··on Instagram Is Becoming Facebook’s Next Facebook
Add !g before the search and it redirects you. You can also use !bangs to find more.
H4CK3RM4N··on Instagram Is Becoming Facebook’s Next Facebook
I have to say that Duck Duck Go feels a lot more like early Google than Google does now(it feels more like querying a database than asking a machine a question). I could see them taking lots of the 'pro' search traffic, especially with their bangs and the way they still just use Stack Overflow answers/Wikipedia articles for their preferred results instead of attempting to remix them.
H4CK3RM4N··on Edge displays “123456” in PDF but prints “114447”
I still love that the SHA 1 collision was able to change the color of an image in a PDF, due to the junk data present.
H4CK3RM4N··on Edge displays “123456” in PDF but prints “114447”
I use calibri for my E-Books, and it seems to do a pretty good job of reflowing PDFs(and exporting to mobi). YMMV though, especially if headers/footers are badly done.
H4CK3RM4N··on Edge displays “123456” in PDF but prints “114447”
That's how it works on an iPad. Touch/pen interfaces are terrible on the PC/Laptop form factor though. At best you gimp your desktop metaphor so it's functional with touch, at worst you have an unusable touch interface.
H4CK3RM4N··on With latency as low as 25ms, SpaceX to launch broadband satellites in 2019
I'm sorry, cross state. I was attempting to point out exactly how shit the current internet speeds were, although I could've been clearer.
H4CK3RM4N··on With latency as low as 25ms, SpaceX to launch broadband satellites in 2019
25ms is pretty close to my broadband latency across Australia(Brisbane to Sydney).
H4CK3RM4N··on Black Screen – Both a terminal emulator and an interactive shell
It's basically a terminal for use with the modern web, which is bad.
H4CK3RM4N··on Black Screen – Both a terminal emulator and an interactive shell
What do you mean by good looking though? If it's the color scheme or text font/size/color those can be customised in practically any terminal emulator(even Terminal.app).
H4CK3RM4N··on Black Screen – Both a terminal emulator and an interactive shell
It's electron. You're running a fully fledged Chrome instance(which at this point might as well be another full OS) in order to run a terminal emulator. This also means that it probably comes bogged down with all the shit which infests modern web development [1].

It also appears to take over lots of the autocomplete/history functions from BASH, which also means it will either not play nice with ZSH or carry over that functionality when used with ZSH.

Going over the screenshots there also appear to be a bunch of hand populated options/descriptions(unless it's auto filling based on man) which would take away a lot of the modularity.

Also, it appears to be coded in Node and the Read Me mentions Visual Studio, and REE M$ and all that comes in.

H4CK3RM4N··on I'm an ex-Facebook exec: don't believe what they tell you about ads
That was what I meant, although I have to agree with the parent that Facebook really should show everyone a get out and vote message.
H4CK3RM4N··on I'm an ex-Facebook exec: don't believe what they tell you about ads
As soon as Facebook takes a political stance, the other half of the population will leave.
H4CK3RM4N··on Vigilantes are working hard to infect IoT devices with the Hajime botnet
Probably a very strong one at that.
H4CK3RM4N··on Vigilantes are working hard to infect IoT devices with the Hajime botnet
The article mentions Telnet login credentials about halfway through. Is that honestly what's happening? I'd assumed it was at least SSH logins being abused on the systems.
H4CK3RM4N··on The Leaked Fyre Festival Pitch Deck Is Beyond Parody
I think most of it arose from the idea that astronomy is about logging as much of the sky as you can in the most efficient way you can(there's a lot of it), and everyone else can put in the work to use their measurements in other disciplines. Sadly, that mindset went on to astrophysics where it's not too helpful.
H4CK3RM4N··on The Invisible War for the Open Internet
You can pay for faster postage in the same way you can pay for a higherspeed connection. But, what ISPs are trying to do is make you pay for faster postage on letters printed on pink paper.
H4CK3RM4N··on The Invisible War for the Open Internet
This is a pretty good take on the 'pipe' idea from the last time Net Neutrality was threatened: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtt2aSV8wdw
H4CK3RM4N··on How I got an FBI record at age 11 from dabbling in cryptography (2015)
But now governments can prosecute as soon as they know the act was committed(and have an identity to link it to). I don't think they'd even need to see the age of the child.
H4CK3RM4N··on A Trick That Hides Censored Websites Inside Cat Videos
Would something like this lead to text-centred sites coming back?
H4CK3RM4N··on Inventor who built an Iron Man-style flight suit has flown it at TED
I thought the point of Iron Man's suit was that the Arc Reactor allowed for stupidly high powered "repulsor beams", which then allowed for force/heat to the generated. This just seems like another Jetpack style design.
H4CK3RM4N··on Cleaver – 30-second slideshows for hackers
I have to ask what this offers over a LaTeX/Beamer setup. I'm fairly happy using LaTeX for anything I'm sharing, but I'm curious about alternatives.
