Gys··on Nvidia wants to put a watchdog chip next to every AI agent
Pretty sure the chip will need regular updates and therefore a subscription.
Gys··on Good people refuse to do bad things
How convenient would it be if the line between good and evil cuts between individuals and not through every human heart.

Who was supposed to beat men?

Gys··on Open Battery Information
Very interesting. I have several battery based Stihl tools. One battery seems problematic and this hopefully give more details.

Gys··on Box of 300 Love Letters Showed Up, What Whimsical WWII Soldier Who Wrote Them?
A similar Dutch find was made into a podcast series (also in Dutch): ‘Liefste Lies’. An amazing story!

Gys··on Anthropic IPO valuation hinges on $190-200B 2028 revenue forecast
I cannot read the article. Does it say anything about profit?
Gys··on Chestnut – eGPU dock with open-source firmware
From what I understood, when I looked into it a while ago, some car makers use an encrypted ODB2 (needed by Comma.ai to communicate driving instructions).

See for example: https://autel.us/security-gateways/, 'Automakers with security gateways installed include Stellantis (Dodge, Chrysler, Ram, Alfa Romeo, FIAT, and Maserati), Nissan and Infinity, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen and Audi.'

Gys··on AI Paper Trail: What does AI know about you?
ChatGPT link for export: https://chatgpt.com/#settings/DataControls

After some verification I got this by email:

'We have started preparing your data export, this process may take a few days. We will email you when it is ready to download.'

So it might take a while to test the Paper Trail. I am curious though!

Claude is much easier. Link: https://claude.ai/new#settings/data-privacy-controls

Then it shows 'Export started'. After two minutes I got an email with a download link. Good one, Claude!

EDIT:

I uploaded the export of Claude to Paper Trail. Looking at the results it makes all sense in itself. It is more the way that details are grouped that makes it scary, something to think more about my AI usage.

Gys··on China is now the world's greatest oil power
> This ability to turn oil demand on and off, ostensibly at low economic cost, allows the world’s biggest oil importer to move prices just as the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (opec) and its allies have long done through their control of half of global output.

This is not about production. You should read the article and not only the title.

Gys··on I stopped trusting USB-C cable labels and started testing them
Yes, very useful to see what a cable is capable of. Mac only.
Gys··on For most US drivers, EVs offer emissions benefits and cost savings
Back in the day, in my EU country, everybody drove shift gear. Automatic gear was frowned upon. Nowadays everybody drives automatic. People like ‘boring’ comfort, it shows everywhere.
Gys··on SpaceX stock drops to a new low and loses $1T in value in a month
> Investors clearly aren't familiar with rocket launches.

That is exactly what Musk was counting on. Reality is boring and no fun. People want promises, stars and dreams.

Gys··on Ask HN: What surprised you about Estonia e-Residency and running an Estonian OÜ?
Unless you have some specific reason for being in the EU, I suggest you also look into Singapore.
Gys··on Ask HN: What surprised you about Estonia e-Residency and running an Estonian OÜ?
If the company is managed 'day by day' by a local director (for example by a company like Intertrust or Trustmoore) then the non-local board and/or shareholders can indeed flyin to have 'a meeting with extensive discussions where all decisions where made and some papers were signed'. I had a company in Singapore for some years doing this.
Gys··on Ask HN: What surprised you about Estonia e-Residency and running an Estonian OÜ?

> Corporate tax residency

> However, some countries have different rules for deciding if a company is tax resident. It is common that, in addition to the place of incorporation, the place of effective management can trigger tax residence. If you run your company from a country with regulations like this, then the company may end up having dual tax residence. This happens when two states believe that the company is tax resident in their jurisdiction and will want to tax the company’s profits.

This 'It is common that [...] the place of effective management can trigger tax residence' is indeed common.

Gys··on The famous O3 "GeoGuessr" prompt did not work
> I think this shows how easy it is to fool yourself about the quality of prompting. When the model is already pretty good at a task, you can give it a very elaborate prompt without impacting performance. It’ll still be pretty good, except this time it’s good because of what you did.
