Gimpson··on Susan Kare designed the suite of icons that made the Macintosh revolutionary
I was stoked to get a set of napkins that she designed at a cute shop last time to travelled to Portland:

(They're on great cloth too! So hard to find cloth napkins that are absorbent but also don't wrinkle.)

Gimpson··on macOS 10.12 Sierra: The Ars Technica review
It was unclear to me from the review, does the Spotlight Siri integration now let us type "Remind me to put out the trash cans when I get home" in Spotlight and have it perform the same action Siri would have done? I feel like for the couple of things that Siri parses well, it's way easier to use than the app itself, but I'm not going to speak into my computer in my open-plan office.

> Also how does tmux handle copy/paste with vertical splits?

This drove me nuts until I found block select. (Option-Command drag in OSX). That pretty much eliminated that problem for me.

Gimpson··on Needy robotic toaster sells itself if neglected
Yeah, I was really looking forward to watching this over time, but the first time I thought to see where it was it was already out of circulation. Bummer, that.
Gimpson··on Rate my startup: Zwapp, a unique social view of the App Store
Thank you so much for only requesting the permissions you need when looking for friends via Facebook. I'm so frustrated by the number of apps that request permission to post just so I can find friends. (And I'll never grant that permission.)

Edit: Though it looks like you're asking permission to update Twitter, and that's making me hesitant.

Gimpson··on Official: 'We see the possibility of a meltdown'
I was very surprised when I read up on Three Mile Island to find that the failure didn't actually result in any loss of life.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Mile_Island_accident

It seems that if Fukushima stays the third worst disaster we'll be in pretty good shape; Nobody was even killed at Three Mile Island. For some perspective, the San Bruno gas pipeline explosion killed eight people.

Gimpson··on Why Stack Overflow Sucks and Participating There is Impossible
I presume that when you find questions in this state you're upvoting the "good but slow" answers? The original asker may have accepted the fast answer and moved on, but if you're landing on the question now, it's definitely not too late to improve the content you found.
Gimpson··on Six Companies That Did Not Survive 2010
My 1993 Saturn SC2 is my favorite of the cars I've owned. (Granted I'm not much of a car person.) I was a bit sad at their passing, though I gather they were no longer the company they were founded as when they finally hung it up.
Gimpson··on Whatever happened to Google Fiber for Communities?
But it seems like they're continuing the build out in areas they've started. I see Verizon FIOS trucks rolling around LA almost every day.
Gimpson··on Was the Wheel of Fortune One Letter Solve Really a Miracle?
This American Life did a great show this summer which included a story about a man who figured out the pattern in the board on the 80's game show Press Your Luck and took them for a lot of money. Definitely worth a listen:

Now that I look at the rest of that episode, it also included some coverage of the Cambridge Innovation Center's Elevator Pitch contest, so all around a good listen for the HN crowd.

Gimpson··on Time lapse screencap video of a games programmer
I think that watching a five minute video like this of my day before I went home would be more motivating than reviewing my Rescue Time statistics.
Gimpson··on The Programmer Dress Code
The ability to wear a button down shirt (and even a tie occasionally!) without being looked at sideways is one of the few things I miss about my old corporate job.
Gimpson··on AT&T increasing early termination fee to $325
Any chance that this increased ETF might be a sign they'll offer larger subsidies when the new iPhones are released? With several very nice looking Android alternatives out I wonder if AT&T wants the new iPhones to be priced much more aggressively.
Gimpson··on AT&T increasing early termination fee to $325
This change only applies to new contracts signed after the change goes into effect.
Gimpson··on It’s time to fix the window controls (ubuntu 10.04)
OS X doesn't suffer from the File Menu/Close Button proximity problem either since the menu bar isn't attached to the window. That proximity alone should be a disqualifier for this new layout.

Gimpson··on Dear Videogame Industry, Please Stop Making Games
I'd argue that there was more interesting video content being produced for TV in the last ten years than movies. (Maybe you don't consider movies art either...) I'll put The Wire up against any movie in the last ten years.
Gimpson··on Fast. Easy. Clean. Shoelace Knot.
My bad, I didn't know that Lock Laces were elastic as well. I've seen those at stores and always just thought they were normal string laces with a sliding clasp.
Gimpson··on Fast. Easy. Clean. Shoelace Knot.
I think Xtenex are even a bit more convenient. Elastic, and they turn any shoes into slip-ons. I bought them first for my running shoes, but now I have them on all my work shoes too.
