GenerWork··on 10-year Treasury yield climbs above 5.3% to a level not seen in 24 years
The primary issue is Social Security. It’s the biggest driver of spending, and nobody wants to do anything to cap its costs such as means testing or straight up lowering the amount it can pay out.

As for the people that will inevitably bleat about how this is just horrible and we need to lift the cap on taxable SS income, that wouldn’t solve the core problem either unless you pair it with spending caps or cuts.

GenerWork··on Show HN: Destroy Any Website with Stickman
This is the first thing I thought of when I clicked on the post. Great memories!
GenerWork··on Meta's Muse appears to use an OpenAI model labeled muse-special
>How do you know?

Because there was an article written in Bloomberg about how they're looking to sell their extra compute [0]

GenerWork··on Meta's Muse appears to use an OpenAI model labeled muse-special
I'm not sure I understand why they would route it to other models. It can't be that they don't have enough compute. Maybe worried that the answer from their own models would be bad? Doesn't really make sense, but I could be missing something.
GenerWork··on Americans' Drinking Remains at Record Low: Gallup Poll
I'd love to see the drinking stats for male millennials over the past 15 to 20 years. I bet there's a big drop as they age out of prime beer drinking age and start moving into middle age. I say this as I'm part of that demographic, and I hardly drink anymore after having one or 2 craft beers a night in my 20s.

Edit: The downturn in drinking has huge ramifications for restaurants as they make a lot of profit on alcohol.

GenerWork··on The American Religion of Self-Storage Facilities
Ah ok, this makes a lot more sense. We have places that look exactly like this near my area of Florida as well, and it's 100% in the "industrial" zoned area. No homes, only commercial businesses and small industrial setups.

>this part of Florida is bananas

All parts of Florida are bananas :)

GenerWork··on The American Religion of Self-Storage Facilities
A gun range being run out of a storage unit? I realize that Florida has gun laws that people would consider nuts (you can have a gun range in your backyard and nobody can really stop you), but I'd think that the contract of the storage unit would absolutely say no gun ranges.
GenerWork··on Killing with a car costs $1.6M, California requires drivers to carry $30K
The reforms that were passed a few years ago are actually working somewhat OK. I'm 3 miles from the beach on the coast and pay under $2k for private home owners insurance.
GenerWork··on Silicon Valley is in denial in face of widespread backlash
I'm not. The same people who seemingly magically cared about Flock overnight will move onto something else within the year. There's always something new to be outraged over, Flock is just the flavor of the week.
GenerWork··on Z.ai confirms Ox Alpha is a new GLM-series model and will release its weights
I asked it to create a design system in Paper, and it actually did a fairly decent job when it wasn't getting network errors. I'd say it's much, much closer to good than bad.
GenerWork··on Starbase, LA
Read "Building a new space coast" and I immediately wondered what our elected officials here in Florida must have felt when they saw that line. I'd love for SpaceX to greatly expand their presence here in Florida, but at the same time the coast is probably too built up here for SpaceX to have a facility like that unless they go into the panhandle.
GenerWork··on Figmimic – A bookmarklet to copy any webpage into Figma as editable layers
What makes this different from the official Figma Chrome extension[0], other than that this may be able to run on browsers other than Chrome?

GenerWork··on Micron announces $10B research hub in Boise
I'm sadly unable to tell if this is satire or not.
GenerWork··on Cerebras CS-4
>Guess they don't care about regular devs atm and are focused only on hardware sales.

Why would they want to target regular devs right now? If they sold to regular devs instead of enterprises, the complaint wouldn't be about model choice, it'd be about how expensive it.

GenerWork··on Moderna reports first positive Phase 3 for mRNA neoantigen therapy in melanoma
This is great news! I think people forget how anti-skin cancer protocols even as simple as applying suntan lotion weren't as popular as recent as 50-60 years ago. Lots of "sun children" of the 50s and 60s are now feeling the repercussions of only applying baby oil and are getting hit with lots of melanoma.
GenerWork··on Claude Code May–August 2026 weekly limits promotion
Will they, though? I could see Anthropic extending it since OpenAI cut the pricing of Sol by 50% for the time being.
GenerWork··on Online clinics and influencers are promoting Cialis as a longevity drug
>weightlifters taking viagra to increase their blood flow when working out at the gym

The weightlifting community moved off of Viagra years ago due to Cialis having a much longer half life.

GenerWork··on Grok 4.6
Good to know! If I could make one suggestion, it'd be great to have an example or two in the press release where you have a prompt, and show what the newest model and the prior model made. This would make it super easy to compare the differences between said models.
GenerWork··on Lovable raises $400M Series C
He may be? I'll be honest, I know virtually nothing about his setup other than that this is his passion project and that he's using Lovable to build it.
GenerWork··on Lovable raises $400M Series C
I feel like this valuation could be cut by 75% if Anthropic paid more attention to Claude Design.
GenerWork··on Lovable raises $400M Series C
I actually do know someone who's building a small community with Lovable. It's not a big community and he's still figuring out how to/if he wants to monetize it, but it's all done via Lovable.
GenerWork··on Grok 4.6
>Grok 4.6 produces stronger first passes on visual and interactive projects than we typically saw with Grok 4.5. Given a concrete product idea, it is able to establish structure and visual language for an application in one pass.

As a designer, I'm always hesitant to believe these statements until there's independent comparisons between the old & new model, as well as comparisons to human made flows. Design can be so subjective that blanket statements like this seem almost useless.

GenerWork··on Official: Ford's $29,945 Small EV Truck Is Called Fathom
The Maverick is pretty small compared to other trucks. Smaller than a Ranger, and much, much smaller than the quarter and half ton trucks.
GenerWork··on Is this the end of the once-mighty GoPro?
>The right wing in the US has spent a lot of money and time co-opting the flag as a signal.

So the right wing overuses flag imagery, and as a result the left starts to view the flag as problematic? That's a Democrat/liberal problem.

>To not realize this to me means you either haven't been paying attention, or very much live in a bubble.

I pay attention and don't live in a bubble, and I still think it's absolutely absurd to let the overuse of your countries flag by a specific political group dictate how you feel about seeing said flag.

GenerWork··on Is this the end of the once-mighty GoPro?
>These days it's much weirder to see an American flag, and usually you know it has something to do with MAGAs. The weird thing to me is how you see one massive one in the luggage retrieval area when you arrive in JFK (in New York). Always makes me sigh

This has to be a troll post. Associating the US flag with MAGA? Sighing because a major international airport has a large flag hanging over the baggage area? Come on.

GenerWork··on My midlife crisis Corolla is fast, furious, and modded
You'd think that on a website that has the word "hacker" in its title, more people would be supportive of someone "hacking" their car, but I guess there's not a lot of car people here.
GenerWork··on IBM shares down 23% as clients spend more on hardware and memory chips
>There's no world in which they will vibecode a solution.

It's not like the Bank of Americas of the world are going to get an Anthropic or OpenAI API key, and then use the prompt "move this off of COBOL please". They'll either hire a contractor who'll work out how to best utilize AI to migrate the existing codebase off of mainframes, or spin up an internal team to do the same thing.

GenerWork··on Death of the Status Update: Why 55% of Americans Stopped Posting on Social Media
I've noticed that a lot of my friends switched from text based status updates (Facebook) to image based status updates (Instagram stories). Personally, I got tired of going on Facebook because it was all rage baiting political stuff, and that was all from friends, not even ads.
GenerWork··on GPT-5.6
Agreed, I’m looking forward to trying it out. I think that the rise of visual design skills that are pretty clearly targeted towards Codex users has lit a bit of a fire under their butts.
GenerWork··on Lead Mines of Galena, Kansas
