GBiT··on Xiaomi Home Integration for Home Assistant
Samsung, and some other major players put a lot of ads and bloatware in their phones, TVs, laptops and other appliances. Xiaomi doesn't have ads on global versions of TVs and Phones. I know the Chinese version does have ads.

As a homeowner, I don't know what is worse. Using stuff where the local government can watch and spy on every step or some Chinese guy watching your boring life if you are low-level person.

GBiT··on Canadian Court Freezes Millions in Convoy Protestor Funds–Including Bitcoin
This court order are sent to exchanges and some wallet providers... One of the major exchanges Kraken CEO told, that they have to comply to orders like this right now... It would be interesting and I think in future we definitely will see such event, then court order will tell miner to forbid transacting from some addresses. It would be interesting to see reaction to such order.
GBiT··on Twetch – Decentralized Twitter alternative on blockchain
Blockchain is database. Website or product who use it can control and filter out what data to show. It can be on chain, but social network dont have to show it.
GBiT··on Twetch – Decentralized Twitter alternative on blockchain
No spam and micro transactions. Post costs 10 pens. Like 2 pens. etc... You can yearn money if someone shares your content, likes, etc. Its all on blockchain. You own your twetch data and can move on any time
GBiT··on Craig Wright suing developers to forcibly give him access to internet coins
We will see how courts will decide. Right now it's just a presumptions on how things can roll out.
GBiT··on Craig Wright suing developers to forcibly give him access to internet coins
Miners investing hundred millions dollars into operation. If court will tell them, like for example 3 biggest miners from US to make that block, they will do it to protect investment, because other way they will get sanctions from gov. Other people on non-mining nodes can fork it, but noone with millions dollars at stake will be on forked chain and only miners make blocks. Court will not be stupid and believe, that such move is legal way to disobey court.
GBiT··on Craig Wright suing developers to forcibly give him access to internet coins
From legal standpoint it is interesting case and it can bring precedent to crypto scene. We will know if person can lose coins and retrieve them back lawful way with court order. Even more interesting, that most miners are now located in USA jurisdiction.

We know, that Google and others can adjust results based on courts orders. It's interesting if miners who invested hundred millions into mining operation could follow order and implement changes to mining software.

It its a known secret, that right now, major miners do some changes and implementations, like for example blacklisting/watching big cold wallets of major exchanges for coins to be secure and not stolen by mistake.

GBiT··on Miami Bitcoin Trial: Defendant Wins Dispute over $50B in Bitcoin
>Feel free to verify the signatures. This is stronger evidence than Faketoshi has ever provided.

Basically what you say is that if someone have keys from your car, its better proof that he owns your car, than legal documents ir court shows.

GBiT··on Miami Bitcoin Trial: Defendant Wins Dispute over $50B in Bitcoin
$100 m was awarded to "W&K Info Defense" and its interesting, that 75% stocks owns he and his ex-Wife. Only 25% was Dave Kleiman and whose are disputed in separate lawsuit. So basically Craig Wright have to pay to himself.
GBiT··on Coin Carbon Cap – PoW cryptocurrencies ranked by energy efficiency
Real world case: Intel had the most advanced chip and more money, until one day AMD got better. In POS this scenario is impossible. First will always be first.
GBiT··on Coin Carbon Cap – PoW cryptocurrencies ranked by energy efficiency
You right. It's written in the FAQ of the page that metric is not really that important. But most of the treads in HN talk about tx/kw anyway... However, if Bitcoin had more transactions, I think a lot less discussion would be right now.
GBiT··on Coin Carbon Cap – PoW cryptocurrencies ranked by energy efficiency
You right, but I will write how I think. Incentive in not only to run more hardware, but to run more effective hardware. This incentivises innovation. In POS you don't need to do anything else. Just stake coins. No innovation, you can always be a monopoly if you have the cash to make a one-time investment. In POW you always have to invest to be competitive and have the most competing hardware.
GBiT··on Coin Carbon Cap – PoW cryptocurrencies ranked by energy efficiency
Yes, running a validator will cost some money. I will explain how I think. If the rich want to get richer he have to make good investment decisions and some work. In POS you don't have to do anything at all, just buy and hold. So in POS, you don't need to innovate your business model. In POW, you always have to innovate to be a leader. Bitcoin ASIC innovation in last years shows how strong competition is. And competition makes innovation. In POS you just keep coins and stake them. Thats it
GBiT··on Coin Carbon Cap – PoW cryptocurrencies ranked by energy efficiency
We will see how proof of stake will work, and in FAQ is a paper about it. POS have one big problem, that you only have to buy coins once and stake them and you will get richer every day by doing nothing without any additional investment. Basically it will make rich richer and more centralized. We will see how it will works in future.

GBiT··on US Court issues order to seize funds from 155 BTC addresses linked to terrorist [pdf]
The Defendant Properties are subject to forfeiture to the United States, pursuant to 18 U.S.C. § 981(a)(1)(G)(i), as assets of a foreign terrorist organization engaged in planning or perpetrating any federal crime of terrorism (as defined in section 2332b(g)(5)) against the United States, citizens or residents of the United States, or their property, and as assets affording any person a source of influence over any such entity or organization.

WHEREFORE, the United States prays that notice issue on the Defendant Properties as described above; that due notice be given to all parties to appear and show cause why the forfeiture should not be decreed; that judgment be entered declaring that the Defendant Properties be forfeited to the United States for disposition according to law; and that the United States be granted such other relief as this Court may deem just and proper, together with the costs and disbursements of this action.

GBiT··on He Has 17,700 Bottles of Hand Sanitizer and Nowhere to Sell Them
In Lithuania, Gov allowed for some Alcoholic drink factories to make Sanitizer. One factory doing 30 tons a day of Sanitizer and starting shipping it asap. Others are smaller, but about 14 factories doing it full time. Within week, the market will be full.

GBiT··on A 96 Bitcoin ransom payment ends up on Bitfinex
You can, but don't forget, that you have to by miners, get cheap electricity and if you want a result, you have to have major share of hash power. Other way you will not be able to include transactions if majority pools will not agree to include them too.

Don't forget, that this pool should be part of criminal organizacion because I don't think any businessman will invest hundreds of millions of dollars and risk his mining operations shut down.

GBiT··on A 96 Bitcoin ransom payment ends up on Bitfinex
You can say they will lose miners, but don't forget, to get a few percent of hash power you need to invest millions right now. it needs only 3 orders in USA, China and Europe and more than 51 percent of hash will be under order.

Small miners will not be able to include, because of orphaning. I agree, that it's not easy process and its expensive.

GBiT··on A 96 Bitcoin ransom payment ends up on Bitfinex
I think this year we will see the first international orders to miners do not process some addresses and freeze that coins. I know a lot of here thinks, that it's not possible, but bitcoin has only a few big miners. And if they will get orders they will have to comply or fight it in courts. It's not possible to mine anonymously, because you need hundreds of millions to invest into miners and a lot of power.
GBiT··on Ask HN: How can I automatically scan and catalog a mountain of books?
I have experience working with document storage business. You need to barcode and index all books. Barcode all locations and scan all books to that container they are. It will be like an excel table with 3 columns. Book name, barcode (ISBN or smth) and location barcode. If someone will look up from the catalog you will know the location. If they have ISBN it's possible to write a script to pull book info by it.
GBiT··on Man Stole $122M from Facebook and Google by Impersonating Quanta
It's not clear how he returned. We don't know if the accounts of companies were frozen or where the money went, etc... Or did you believe he returned it in Cash? Or maybe transferred from bank accounts where no one knew? It's not how the financial system works.

Here in LT we had some few series about this man and some possible things how it went. This case wasn't public, but every news site had about 15-20 stories about it in two years time.

GBiT··on Man Stole $122M from Facebook and Google by Impersonating Quanta
Well, I'm not saying he is not guilty, he is at some point, but this story is more than it says. It's possible he was only proxy. I see some comments say here, that with his talent he could do more, but he was only some none name construction businessman.

But basically, in US I see, that a lot of people pleads guilty then it is more to the story. We don't know how much he will get for this and what deal he has. We see story, then person pleads to guilty and has to pay hundred million to later see, that they had other deal for him to pay just a few hundred thousands.

GBiT··on Man Stole $122M from Facebook and Google by Impersonating Quanta
I'm from Lithuania, he is a Lithuanian citizen. What is interesting, that his wife told, that he is not capable to do this, because he was a small businessman in the construction business. His wife told, that he doesn't know how to use a computer properly for things like banking etc... USA asked for the extradition of this person, and my country gave him up, but he never was in USA.

The only thing he said, is that he meet some guy in Russia, who wanted to do some business with him. It seems, that he was just a proxy. He never saw money...

It's a very interesting story to look into because its not so simple how it looks from this post.

GBiT··on Bitcoin conf stopped taking Bitcoin payments because they don't work well enough
I don't know what you think about Bitcoin as a store of value, but if you want to liquidate quickly your "store of value", with bitcoin it can be impossible on the peak. It should have another use cases to be a store of value.
GBiT··on Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index
You right
GBiT··on Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index
Energy usage rises if Bitcoins value grows. Miners are mining to get profit. If they will use energy and don't get profit, they will stop mining.
GBiT··on Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index
The more energy Bitcoin network uses, the more valuable Bitcoins are... If Bitcoins value falls down, energy usage will fall down too. Energy is used to create valuable document - The Block. And block is not necessary new Bitcoins, its transactions too.
