Meanwhile, the Mastodon Project has made everyone fully aware of how they feel about blockchains:

one quote:

"The blockchain's two core properties, immutability and centrality (i.e. the ledger is distributed, but everyone's got the same one), are actually pretty bad for a social network. People can put awful stuff into the blockchain - doxx, harassment, child abuse, that you can't remove"

Blockchain is database. Website or product who use it can control and filter out what data to show. It can be on chain, but social network dont have to show it.

No one's going to use this.

We have ~ 5M identities in the existing federated social web, and it is interoperable, ethical, and standards driven. Get onboard or get left behind.

> "We don't sell your data and never will."

Because your data is now freely available on the blockchain, forever.

Encrypted, you control who access this data

Until the particular crypto used by the blockchain becomes obsolete and is easily cracked. Then everyone can see whatever they want forever because you’ve widely distributed the encrypted text all across the world.

Why does a Twitter alternative need blockchain?

To enable their fren2fren™ transactions of course. Only wish I was joking.

To be fair, making people pay money to hurl abuse at you with /trolltoll is an interesting twist on the usual system where you just block them. Not sure why that needs a blockchain though.

So there is no censorship? So there is no middleman in the peer to peer payments?

How would you solve those problems without a blockhain?

No spam and micro transactions. Post costs 10 pens. Like 2 pens. etc... You can yearn money if someone shares your content, likes, etc. Its all on blockchain. You own your twetch data and can move on any time

Rhymes with Retch

that's so Fetch
