A static build in Sveltekit is as simple as changing 1 line in your config:

`import adapter from “@sveltejs/adapter-auto”`

becomes

`import adapter from “@sveltejs/adapter-static”`

Also, Sveltekit was designed as a serverless framework optimized for the edge long before Vercel hired Rich. Doing SSR on the edge right can be a hard problem to solve, so getting it for free “automagically” in Sveltekit is a huge value-add! Static site generation, on the other hand, has long been a solved problem.

That said, I agree that a lot of sites are better off just being static. Nonetheless, being able to change one line in my Sveltekit config to deploy my static site onto Cloudflare Pages, Netlify, or my own node server thanks to Sveltekit’s adapters is pretty awesome in my experience!

I get triggered by JSDoc and I really wish I didn’t. To me it’s clearly just more verbose Typescript with less features. I can’t understand the appeal, and most arguments I’ve heard for it can be summed up to “typescript is spooky and I don’t want to learn it so I’ll use this inferior thing instead”, which for my personality, is as hard for me to accept as it would be to suffocate myself by holding my breath.

The only other argument being “no compile step” which is a non-argument in the age of modern bundlers.

As someone who learned web dev with Svelte, it seems so obvious to me that React is full of convoluted apis born from tech debt, and such a bad DX compared to what is possible today. I imagine if I learned React first, it wouldn’t be nearly as obvious to me how mush worse it is than it should be.

Wow I was struggling with this exact problem earlier today. I scraped a list of all css color names into a union so I could get them in my autocomplete, but also wanted to allow any valid css color without having to make template literals for every possible valid color string.

Svelte is a no-brainer here.

I really can’t stand the appeal. It’s so much more verbose and clunky than Typescript. I want to understand why people choose it but I can’t justify using a worse, more verbose, less readable, and less powerful version of Typescript when I can just change a j to a t and have the real deal.

Oh wow I thought everyone used third party client apps on mobile..! My experience with Octal on iOS has been really nice. The lack of a dark reader extension on iOS makes the regular site even harder to stomach but perhaps I should give it another chance.

Brave is the only chromium browser that is built on privacy-first principles. It’s amazing and has a powerful Adblock built right in. My UBlock almost never showed anything being blocked because Brave takes care of it all.

Way more people should be using Brave (and before you parrot “reee crypto” just don’t opt in to it if you don’t want free money for a Mullvad subscription or something).

Can’t wait to see what kind of projects people come up with for this!!
