Yet I wonder how I could have become so cynical as to doubt the "socially redeeming value" of an ~author~ who gets a book published by including claims such as:
> YOU WILL LEARN (in less than 30 minutes each):
> How to lose those last 5-10 pounds (or 100+ pounds) with odd combinations of food and safe chemical cocktails.
> * How to prevent fat gain while bingeing (X-mas, holidays, weekends)
> * How to increase fat-loss 300% with a few bags of ice
> * How Tim gained 34 pounds of muscle in 28 days, without steroids, and in four hours of total gym time
> * How to sleep 2 hours per day and feel fully rested
> * How to produce 15-minute female orgasms
> * How to triple testosterone and double sperm count
> * How to go from running 5 kilometers to 50 kilometers in 12 weeks
> * How to reverse “permanent” injuries
> * How to add 150+ pounds to your lifts in 6 months
> * How to pay for a beach vacation with one hospital visit
I've bookmarked his page of academic papers. Unsurprisingly, since his getting affiliated with Google about 8 years ago, he's written on economics of Search: http://people.ischool.berkeley.edu/~hal/people/hal/papers.ht... and on the Google Library Project.
Sure wish he (or someone) would be funded to do an update of this (2000 pub date) study. I wonder what additional variables might need to be factored in by now.
But I think the allegation of "eleasing classified information, treason..." needs to be proven ( at least better evidenced ) before suppression by governmental (quasi-governmental?) retaliation.
OTOH: I've no problem with the print dialogue that opens along with the cleaner page. My "esc" key works just fine.
The paint with a broad brush trends at which they "tsk, tsk" without presenting the data, discussing what criteria constitute evidence of "bubbling", or demostrating overvaluation.
Consider:
"The chief evidence, according to industry experts and analysts, is the way venture capitalists and established companies are clamoring to give money to young companies, including those with only a shred of an idea. "
Which "experts and analysts"? ?All? of them? Do none dissent? How much of "an idea" is "as shred of an idea." Do they mean "only a shred of a business plan?"
I believe this meets the criterion for "a bubble of journalism."
Look out for Rupert: it seems the NYT has surrendereed.
But better biochemistry doesn't necessarily produce better living/feeling.
Depressed emotional/behavior state < -- > biochemistry. [can spiral upward or downward together]
A psychologist/ licensed counselor / psychotherapist [ i.e., "talk therapy ] can be really important to help your cognitive processes, keep you on track with reality checks. "Meds" are not magic bullets, do not kick in immediately, and it may take several tries to find one that helps you. Meanwhile, if you don't have sufficiently supportive/sophisticated social network around you, it's important to pay for an experienced professional. Been there. Best of luck.
"Safari can’t open the page “https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2010/01/primer-information-the... because Safari can’t establish a secure connection to the server “www.eff.org”."
Not being an iPhone user, I am confused that I cannot tell whether this will have any relevance to me on my Mac. Nor can I find any indication of how I may register in order to log in (or whether registration is free).
Consider: would Apple ever release a Jobs Keynote with slides-only. Not likely. The alternative they provide is to make the entire presentation (or select portions) available as complete AV presentations (QT or whatever).
I thought this pretty weak compared to, for example, "Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs" by Carmine Gallo.
And... all the plugs for SlideShare in the presentation: what's with that? Started to feel like more of an infomercial than anything. I'd recommend spending 15 minutes just scanning Gallo's book at a book (I did. then bought it anyway.)
>a next-generation Wi-Fi print architecture that dramatically
>simplifies printing by completely eliminating printer drivers
Most other discussions have been geared toward the reader's reaction. I think the impact on authors is equally significant (and might need to be addressed differently?).
Put you in my address book in case I ever develop for a UK-audience site.
But an "open in new window" click gives me a blank box (Safari 5.0.2). Ah, cutting edge technology.
Seems to be feeding fine as of Mon eve (Nov 8)
Funny: I do so much research on Amz that I am accustomed to zeroing in on just info I really want - with the result that I can browse for months without noting new features (treasure chest buttons, etc).

That said, I am certainly pleased with the 27" iMac I scarfed up upon their intro last year (excuse: I needed a new machine then).
On the bright side: The article linked suggests to me that software updates may be all that is required. (Hence: not a huge issue; just requires a little patience). Apple hardware has come (on average) so far in QA from ten years ago.
What if a permanent record was made of everyone's objection to the process - even as they acquiesce?
Sure, this is a little juvenile, but how about the "Hawaiian good luck sign" - as used by the POWs of the USS Pueblo?:
