Flameancer··on Switch off bad TV settings
That also makes me wonder how much TVs are being subsidized with ads and sponsored content. Those businesses displays cost significantly more than a regular consumer TV.
Flameancer··on The first two custom silicon chips designed by Microsoft for its cloud
Plus I don’t even think PRoC would know how to operate the EUV machines.
Flameancer··on The first two custom silicon chips designed by Microsoft for its cloud
The only three are Samsung, Intel, and TSMC. Idk why going on with Intel but Samsung should BSs doing better but that institutional knowledge that TSMC has is crazy. They all technically invest in asml that makes the machines. If I had to redo my education I’d get into electrical engineering just for this.
Flameancer··on The first two custom silicon chips designed by Microsoft for its cloud
More like ASML is solving the physics problems and TSMC is the one with the most capital and experience to run their EUV machines. It’s not that other competitors don’t exist, it’s more like they’ve given up or can’t keep up. Global foundations I believe isn’t making the investment past 16nm. Samsungs latest node doesn’t perform as good as TSMC and intel is being intel.
Flameancer··on AMD may get across the CUDA moat
He’s not wrong. I did a new arch install to try and get a 7800XT working with ROCm and PyTorch and was concussed on how I ran out of space but saw that ROCm was 18GB.
Flameancer··on AMD may get across the CUDA moat
What mainstream board company is intel only? Maybe a decade ago on AM3(+) but on AM5/AM5 I haven’t seen a main board partner not offer the same board SKU that works with Intel and AMD.
Flameancer··on AMD may get across the CUDA moat
As a new owner of a 7800XT I’m excited.
Flameancer··on AMD may get across the CUDA moat
I think they moved to Wayland on 23.04 or 23.10. I just recently installed both to try and get a 7800xt working with PyTorch and the default was Wayland.
Flameancer··on CNET is deleting old articles to try to improve its Google Search ranking
Yea I’ve noticed that as well. It’s really annoying when you search for something new but it links to an article that says a few months but it’s in fact years old.
Flameancer··on Ask Wirecutter: Can you recommend a not-smart TV for me?
Funny you say that. I don’t like searing whites and I also just got officially diagnosed with astigmatism. I wonder if my glasses will make a difference.
Flameancer··on Google is shutting down Stadia
Yea they should definitely open source the firmware or at least do one last update to make it Bluetooth compatible. I as well got the promo deal.
Flameancer··on New Intel chips won't play Blu-ray disks due to SGX deprecation
MakeMKV with a pioneer drive (4K or regular) just works s as well.
Flameancer··on New Intel chips won't play Blu-ray disks due to SGX deprecation
Actually pioneer drives work out of the box without custom firmware I’ve brought two of them before a standard blu-ray and a 4k one. Both worked out of the box.
Flameancer··on Amazon stock plunges as company reports nearly $4B loss
Might be a vpn. This sounds like typical login behavior if there are a lot of requests coming from your ip.
Flameancer··on Airbnb employees can live and work anywhere
I feel there’s a caveat to this. If this happens in MANGA companies what’s to stop smaller cities from raising the cost of living higher than most of the locals due to having a small amount of high wages/large city types moving in. Idk having a wage adjusted for California prices but living in say the middle of Kansas doesn’t really seem fair and I doubt the local market can pay the same.
Flameancer··on MirageOS 4.0 – Self-managed internet infrastructure with unikernels
I was about to mention the same thing. Theses appear to be completely unrelated projects. And here I was about to dust of the old TI-84 to try it out.
Flameancer··on Spotify and Google Announce User Choice Billing
Counter point, Google deleted your account for no reason.

Wait, so you're saying that DRM has become so ingrained in modern tech that if I wanted to connect a firestick to a Dumb Display(No electronics other than to drive the display), if that Display doesn't have DRM functionality then the app won't load or play content even though the firetv has the DRM?
Flameancer··on Intel completely disables AVX-512 on Alder Lake after all
Excuse my ignorance but what is AVX-512 even supposed to improve? I’ve been hearing about this instruction set since around 2015 and I have yet to hear or see any significant use case for these instructions.
Flameancer··on My 70 year old mother has been using Linux on the desktop for the past 21 years
I’m curious. I dual boot both windows and Linux and when I switch over to my windows vm I don’t have these issues. Then again I’m running decent hardware and my boot drive is on an nvme drive. Are you running windows on an HDD? I’ve noticed probably since Microsoft dropped all support for Windows 7 that Windows 10 runs horribly on an HDD, but if you swap the HDD for an SSD it’s like a whole new machine.

Honestly I love outlook search, but it definitely works better if the items you are searching for are in a exchange mailbox. Anything outside of exchange is usually hit or miss.
Flameancer··on A Tumblr developer on the App Store approval process
I feel like with that logic web browsers should be banned including their own. There’s nothing stopping me from buying a brand new iPhone and immediately opening up safari and finding porn. Heck even their own search feature built into the OS can do this. Rules for thee and not for me.

Shouldn’t that be up to the user to update their device or replace as they see fit? Also the manufacturer has no obligation to open up a device for 3rd party software installs.

At the most they should let their users know of the expected life cycle of the devices and warn them even the life cycle it’s end or has ended but in no way nag the user.

It would be nice for the manufacturer to allow 3rd party software but they don’t have too and shouldn’t be forced to do so. You as a consumer have the choice to choose a manufacturer that allows you to install 3rd party software.

Flameancer··on Part of Windows 11 is a revamped Windows Subsystem for Linux
Partly false, Microsoft does have its own Linux distribution now.

Flameancer··on GE's smart light bulb reset process is a masterpiece of modern techno-insanity
Yea no. I don’t see how that was even allowed in the first place for safety reason.
