Felminor··on Pgrok – Poor Man’s Ngrok
Great thing about k8s: you can expose all your dev env needs super fast and easy.

And adding a dex or so upfront is also super easy.

If you are a small company and need this regularly try to take a look at managed k8s.

It will be worth it

Felminor··on Pgrok – Poor Man’s Ngrok
Yeah configureed it yesterday.

Would have suggested it as an alternative if you wouldn't asked for it

Felminor··on Ask HN: Which stack is as boring (good boring) and cheap in 2023 as PHP?
Totally forgot about what I really like:

Quarkus with kotlin.

Kotlin makes so much more fun than java, runs on JVM too. Unfortunately it adds a kotlin complexity layer over quarkus which can add issues

Felminor··on Ask HN: Which stack is as boring (good boring) and cheap in 2023 as PHP?
Puh PHP is still super shitty.

Alone debug support on any Jim based language is so much better.

I would still recommend spring boot with normal pages (templated) so no frontend ja stuff. That should be the easiest and best supported stack.

I would also still do cloud native.

Configuring, upgrading, monitoring etc is so much easier with some cheap k8s behind it (managed by argocd).

Database: managed postgres.

Felminor··on Tether USDT is trading at $1.01
Alone the fact that every stable coin created itself out of thin air when bought, makes this tremendously stupid.
Felminor··on $22B project to provide 8% of UK energy via undersea cable from North Africa
I would say more diverse because the weather allows it
Felminor··on Long-Term Cannabis Use, Cognitive Decline, and the Hippocampus
I'm very restless normally.

Enough weed and I'm not keeping myself awake.

But I only eat a cookie before bed

Felminor··on Long-Term Cannabis Use, Cognitive Decline, and the Hippocampus
What's that? '. Their cognitive decline may have altered employment opportunities for which they were qualified, but they were in no way demented. Yet.'

Who writes like that?

Also I have insomnia and ADHD and I'm pretty sure weed does help and allowed me to do more not less.

Without it I'm super tired already at Thursday.

And yes I lived long enough without it and it was like this before my weed use not after.

Felminor··on $22B project to provide 8% of UK energy via undersea cable from North Africa
As depressing as it is, better destroying that env than the more rich env
Felminor··on Nearly 40% of software engineers will only work remotely
You clearly/ obviously gained a better office.

It's super close and it's less populated now.

Of course I would like your setup.

Felminor··on ChatGPT is now finding bugs in databases
Just imagine how many little code snippets you used (at least I did) to make my life easier and faster

A script which parses jaon for a specific key or transforming a table from y to z.

Now everyone has this available to them.

It's great already!

Felminor··on It Turns Out Money Does Buy Happiness
Depends on the person I believe.

I want to buy and renovate a small chateau fulltime and building a park and greenhouse and stuff.

When I tell this to people most say 'you know this is soooo much work's and I have to correct them that's a lot of fun.

I need a certain amount of money to do so. Otherwise I need to keep working full-time until 60...

On the other hand staying in an expensive resort gets old after a while. Not seeing family gets lonely.

But way too many people in our society struggle anyway

Felminor··on How secure is merely discarding (TRIMing) all of a SSD's blocks?
Most relevant ssds are always encrypted.

I don't think it's necessary to delete it.

But if you want, write the disk fully

Felminor··on EVs are far cleaner than gas-powered cars even if batteries require more mining
Interesting, tx

Cars need resources one way or the other.
Felminor··on ChatGPT-Linux-Assistant
I'm looking forward to all the agents we will get who will actually be helpful.

Let's see if Google announces something at google.io or apple or Ms.

Felminor··on EVs are far cleaner than gas-powered cars even if batteries require more mining
I'm not opposed to this idea after all here are also people driving gas instead of normal fuel.

Let's see I still think H2 handling is a little bit more risky

Felminor··on EVs are far cleaner than gas-powered cars even if batteries require more mining
Don't forget air pollution as a positive factor for evs
Felminor··on EVs are far cleaner than gas-powered cars even if batteries require more mining
I charged my ev at my parents house over the weekend. 90kwh on a 1.5k standard outlet.

Charging with electricity is 10x easier remote than gas.

And makes you independent.

Felminor··on EVs are far cleaner than gas-powered cars even if batteries require more mining
In theory yes it can.

If all energy for making ev comes from renewable.

Why chatgpt and not GitHub copilot?
Felminor··on O’Reilly urges world to get ready for a red-hot summer of AI
Did you try it out?

Aren't you impressed how well it understands your questions?

I have never seen a tech demo as good as chatgpt.

Felminor··on O’Reilly urges world to get ready for a red-hot summer of AI
I'm following ml papers, ml work etc for a while.

The progress is crazy.

The use cases popping up are already here.

Not betting on ai/ml right now is something someone can't afford.

And I'm not easily be swayed.

But alone the fact how good Charcpt understood what I wanted it to do and seamless switching languages is crazy good.

And ml is everywhere: voice synthesis, OCR, image analysis, image synthesis, text understanding, driving, ...

This is the new way.

Felminor··on Deploying Kubernetes with Ansible
Use argocd! It's the best tool for the job.

Can and should be configured as IaC.

Argocd can manage itself!

Felminor··on Deploying Kubernetes with Ansible
Huh? Than that's even worse.

Use argocd or flux

Felminor··on Deploying Kubernetes with Ansible
I started with Ansible and k8s and.its.fine.

Not really hard, you get it up and running fast enough (who ever wants to setup a k8s cluster like this has the week to do so).

But honestly: don't!

I switched to rke2. Alternativly try out gardener from sap or anything else between Ansible and managed.

You do not want to take care of bare metal k8s.

And rke2 is still not perfect but it's rancher support will be better and better and more than just you are using it.

But be real: if you don't need air gap, go to a cloud provider.

Ah and btw open nebula also started supporting k8s by deploying rke2!

Felminor··on SimCity launched a decade ago, and it was so disastrous it killed the series
Loved the visual style.

Not sure why they just didn't build a second one

Felminor··on Cities: Skylines II
Never heard that

Good reminder

ADHS yes here too :)
Felminor··on I'm a very slow thinker (2016)
I have a very deep purely logical based Argumentation style.

I can and often explain on a logical level my point of view.

I just don't need much time to do so because I constantly think about everything
