FalconSensei··on What do premarital experiences have to do with marital quality? (2014)
From the institute that funded it:

> ideals in which Mr. Simon believed – access to an excellent education, promoting strong families, and the importance of faith and patriotism.

IDK, I will always be suspicious or this type of study being done with any ties to religion, since religion usually tends to want people to live separate and in abstinence before marriage. What if they found out that living together and having sex with multiple partners correlated with more happy marriages?

go to JustWatch.com. They'll tell you where to stream or rent/buy any movie/show you want
FalconSensei··on Netflix never used its $1M algorithm (2012)
This is why I legit jack sparrow shows.

You can rent movies on many services like google, itunes, youtube, etc... But for shows, you only have the option to buy each episode, which makes no sense.

Not only being watched, but most desired. Like, people threatened to cancel netflix if they implemented password sharing but inevery country they implemented it, they actually grew on subscriber numbers..

My pet peeve is that I wanted to buy a couple blu-rays a few years ago to watch on my PS4. But I either I had to buy the DVD, or the Blu-Ray+DVD. There was no blu-ray only option, and I was like... what I'm gonna do with the dvd?
FalconSensei··on Fewer people are buying electric cars in the US
> If someone were to ask you how far your office is from the airport, I bet you’d respond with how long it takes to get there, not how many miles it is away.

To be fair, in this case, time makes way more sense. I need to know when to leave to get there in time for my flight, and I don't care about the actual distance.

FalconSensei··on A new blog for 2024
Author mentioned that the reason for the new blog is to be easier to create posts. But doesn't mention much of what changed in the workflow. Seems he's using md files. But then what was he using before? If MD->MD, then what changed? Using Obsidian to be easier to edit and sync between devices?
FalconSensei··on White Elephant is surprisingly effective
> What my family has adopted since around eight years, is the practice of everyone buying themselves a present they really like and wrapping it up.

This is so much better than any other alternative. The only times I got something I wanted on secret santa was when we used a site to add things we would like to get, and I got the book I asked for. But then... what's the point of the game? Also, Trying to find something that fits the budget and it's not too low, etc... I end up not getting something that I _really_ want,

Honest question: how do you feel about paying for editor's work and marketing a new author if then anyone can sell the resulting book?
FalconSensei··on You are never taught how to build quality software
There are tools that help, but you still need time to integrate those tools, learn how to use them, etc. If you are doing unit and integration tests, you need time to not only write those, but also actually plan your tests, and learn how to write tests. Which... needs time
FalconSensei··on You are never taught how to build quality software
> An infinite amount of time would not necessarily yield zero bugs.

Never said that, just that quick turnaround for deliveries will usually mean more bugs, and having some extra time usually means less bugs

FalconSensei··on You are never taught how to build quality software
> If you believe you can ship bug free code, it's time to switch careers.

Unfortunately, you are correct. Shipping in time and bug free are inversely proportional, and in a world were usually it's hard to argue with PMs for more time to have better testing, or paying tech debt... it's just a reality

> I don't like that I don't have a 'Library' and everything just goes in liked or a playlist.

I left Spotify a while ago, but one thing I hate is that there's no way of differentiating when you add complete albums to your collection vs only one song.

FalconSensei··on A reality bending mistake in Apple's computational photography
you can still install any other photo app on your phone and use that instead
FalconSensei··on A reality bending mistake in Apple's computational photography
> The SW backing it is much more powerful than what you get in standalone cameras

that is very due to camera makers not giving a sh*t though. Maybe now they do, but it's overdue. And I'm not even talking about the phone apps for connection, or image processing, but more on a user interface and usability PoV, and also interesting modes for the user.

Fuji and Ricoh are the only ones that I see are trying to make things easier or more fun or interesting for non-professionals. Fuji has the whole user customization that people use for recipes and film simulation (on top of the film simulations they already have), and Ricoh is the only one (I know of) that has snap focus, distance priority, and custom user modes that are easy to switch to, and to use. But even Fuji and Ricoh could still improve a lot, since there's always a detail or another that I'm like... why did they made it like that? or... why didn't they add this thing?

this kills me every time, specially since I live in a different country, so I can't see them much more than that

I'm always amazed of how people forget that option
