Eye_of_Mordor··on True Goodbye: ‘Using TrueCrypt Is Not Secure’
Perhaps TrueCrypt was an NSA scam all along, 'retiring' before they're found out? Worse still, a Russian/Chinese scam!
Eye_of_Mordor··on Why Germany Dominates the U.S. in Innovation
Google/Facebook/Twitter - yeah that took years of scientific study and research. Weren't they all started by 2 people with a great idea?

Truth is, US 'innovation' is all about ideas, whereas a high level of collaborative intelligence is used in Germany.

Eye_of_Mordor··on eBay user data for sale?
Why didn't they sell it on eBay?
Eye_of_Mordor··on Why I was forced to shut down Lavabit
China already sees the US as a place with less respect for human rights than they do, so in some ways, the US is worse than a communist country.
Eye_of_Mordor··on Level3 is without peer, now what to do?
Lack of competition all around - just break up the big boys and everything will be fine...
Eye_of_Mordor··on Audi 'lied' about safety testing of vehicles
A "lie" requires intent as per the response that "Audi UK said there had not been any deliberate intent to mislead". Audi dealers did make false claims which were misleading. You would need something in writing, like an email for example, to provide the intent and then uncover the "lies".
Eye_of_Mordor··on Putin Passes Law Requiring $3.8B Security Payments From Visa, MasterCard
Oh, the US government will just retaliate with sanctions against Russian companies.
Eye_of_Mordor··on Apple, Facebook, others defy authorities, notify users of secret data demands
Obama hasn't done his job of bringing change. Quite what the word "hope" means to him is anyone's guess. What we've got instead is a system of government so ridiculous and bizarre that it's not worth following at all.
Eye_of_Mordor··on A simple way Google could have avoided fucking up Google+
As soon as Google+ insisted on real names, they made me realize it was only a vehicle for selling my privacy (pretty much my only motive for leaving Facebook). Now interested in neither.
Eye_of_Mordor··on GCHQ Used Fake LinkedIn Pages to Target Engineers (2013)
What does this have to do with saving us from terrorism?
Eye_of_Mordor··on Privacy groups ask FTC to block Facebook-WhatsApp deal
He wouldn't have sold to Facebook if users' privacy and security was his top concern. Money was likely his top concern.
Eye_of_Mordor··on Privacy groups ask FTC to block Facebook-WhatsApp deal
How is this good for privacy if Facebook's business model is selling personal information for financial gain? They could change the ToS anytime and sell all your personal information (several years of messages, photos, video) next day. Also, they could pass this all to the government for a nice pile of cash (without needing to change the ToS).
Eye_of_Mordor··on Yes, There’s a Pilot Shortage: Salaries Start at $21,000
How much do they earn in China?

Wouldn't be at all surprised that they have a ton of experienced pilots, but earning more than $21,000.

Is this some kind of 'trickle up effect' where cutting salaries at the bottom has squeezed those in the middle?

Eye_of_Mordor··on Programmers At Work: Bill Gates (1986)
Does this mean you recruited some people who couldn't explain the structure and you found they were no good anyway?

Eye_of_Mordor··on Chronicle of a Death Foretold

Eye_of_Mordor··on Lenovo to buy Google's Motorola handset division
Google are corporate, they were the good guys.
Eye_of_Mordor··on Facebook can now read your texts
Just use their web site.
Eye_of_Mordor··on US tech firms make eleventh-hour attempt to halt tax avoidance reforms
OK, in response to your questions:

Q: Since your logic is "X provides jobs so X shouldn't be taxed" then I shouldn't have to be taxed if I have any household staff, no? A: Nope, that wasn't my logic.

Q: Do you think that corporations should exist without paying any fees to the state? If so, why should they get liability protection for free? A: Government is for the people, so they pay the tax. Liability protection for shareholders would be covered by dividend tax.

Eye_of_Mordor··on US tech firms make eleventh-hour attempt to halt tax avoidance reforms
Actually, there's nothing to coordinate in setting your corporation tax to zero, but you'd likely incrementally increases dividend taxes.
Eye_of_Mordor··on US tech firms make eleventh-hour attempt to halt tax avoidance reforms
Yes, the logic is that the corporation paid tax on their profits before dividends. Perhaps there's a case for corporation tax abolition and increased dividend taxation?
Eye_of_Mordor··on US tech firms make eleventh-hour attempt to halt tax avoidance reforms
I think you are angry with corporations 'getting away with it', but you can view them as an enabler of tax:

- taxes from their employees

- taxes from their dividends

What if there were no corporation tax - how would revenues be affected?

Eye_of_Mordor··on US tech firms make eleventh-hour attempt to halt tax avoidance reforms
Corporations pay out taxed dividends from their profits.
Eye_of_Mordor··on US tech firms make eleventh-hour attempt to halt tax avoidance reforms
Is there any point in taxing companies at all - they provide jobs for tax payers.
Eye_of_Mordor··on Wozniak: “Actually, the movie was largely a lie about me”
Shame he didn't learn empathy from Woz - arguably the greatest flaw in his character and possibly the biggest need he had as a human being.
Eye_of_Mordor··on Microsoft says it's prepared to hand over Skype users' data to Russia
I don't mind the law, but they shouldn't be collecting data in the first place. No data - no problem.
Eye_of_Mordor··on Stanford Whizzes Develop an Astoundingly Cheap Fix for Clubfoot
Surprised they didn't use 3D printing.
Eye_of_Mordor··on Teen Reported to Police After Finding Security Hole in Website
It's about time for legislation making it a crime to report whistleblowers to the police and a criminal offense to search or seize their equipment. Perhaps an independent review body could be set up to arbitrate these situations?
Eye_of_Mordor··on Estimates Number of Asteroids Worth Mining (Spoiler: Not Very Many)
Got me thinking - what would happen to the earth's orbit if we mined all the asteroids?

"No one ever got fired for buying IBM."
