Just remember to make sure you turn in your devices.

Looking forward to this.

ExMachina73··on Researchers develop ‘transparent paper’ as alternative to plastics
Still holding out for transparent aluminum.
ExMachina73··on Gurus of 90s Web Design: Zeldman, Siegel, Nielsen
Lets be real. The pinnacle of web design was clearly zombo.com
ExMachina73··on Tire-related chemical responsible for salmon deaths in urban streams (2020)
I see articles like this about microplastics turning up in the environment and it doesn't surprise me at all. Almost a century of millions and millions of cars going through tires how could it not. In the future they'll ask what killed everyone? It was tires man. Tires.
ExMachina73··on Correlation between fecal microplastics and inflammatory bowel disease (2021)
It's tires. Millions of cars and their tire wear for literally the last hundred years. How can it not be in our bodies and causing issues at this point.
ExMachina73··on Leafy vegetables found to contain tire additives
I think it's clear. Tires. Tires are what's killing everyone. Or at least contributing more than we'd like to admit. Rise in cancer among young people, microplastics in the ocean, among a litany of other health issues on the rise. A hundred years of tire wear and industry is making itself known.
ExMachina73··on Apple and OpenAI have signed a deal to partner on AI
True. Seems like now would be his moment to take center stage (literally at WWDC in about a week). His title is "Senior Vice President Machine Learning and AI Strategy". We've seen Ternus present. Srouji too. Sure would instill some confidence to hear directly from the AI Strategy SVP on what they've been working on and what they have planned. Turning Siri over to OpenAI sounds like a defeat for him.
ExMachina73··on Apple and OpenAI have signed a deal to partner on AI
You have to wonder if Giannandrea is what's been holding Siri back all these years. What can you point to that he's significantly improved at Apple since coming from Google in 2018? And now he's luke-warm on LLMs? Seems like someone we should be seeing present Apple's AI strategy at this year's WWDC keynote, no?
ExMachina73··on Apple apologizes for iPad 'Crush' ad that 'missed the mark'
I'm still waiting for Jim Beam to apologize for their "Sweet Caroline" ad.
ExMachina73··on OpenAI’s Sora made me crazy AI videos then the CTO answered most of my questions
I'm surprised OpenAI's own legal team or PR hasn't come up with a boilerplate response to these type of questions yet. Seems like something they should expect to be asked and be prepared for by now?
ExMachina73··on Germany explores 4-day workweek amid labor shortage
Feel like the real question is what is the purpose of work, if not to feed the all powerful need to consume. Perhaps we need to look at the consumption end of things. Consume less. Work less.
ExMachina73··on Americans can no longer afford their cars
The problem is that most Americans view cars as status symbols and want them to be as luxurious as if they're buying a second home. Ironically according to AAA the average American spends about 300hrs a year behind the wheel. In other words about 3.5% of your time is spent actually driving while 96.5% it's garaged or parked. Spend money on a better a bed where you spend 33% of your life and buy a used 2009-2019 Toyota Yaris, agreed to be one of the most reliable commuter cars Toyota has ever made.
ExMachina73··on Fewer people are buying electric cars in the US
I think hybrids are the ideal car that addresses the current reality and infrastructure as it is at this moment in time. Most trips can be driven electric only, while also having the ICE to address those edge cases and long trips while at the same time removing range anxiety.
ExMachina73··on How Japan Airlines crew led 367 passengers to safety from a burning plane
You make some good points, however I'm referring specifically to an evacuation situation on the ground due to fire, explosion, sinking or imminent destruction of the aircraft, where disembarking as soon as humanly possible is preferred.
ExMachina73··on How Japan Airlines crew led 367 passengers to safety from a burning plane
Seems that an overriding "lock all overhead storage" mechanism and control in the cockpit would be useful in these situations. Forced compliance would save lives. Granted some stow baggage under the seats, but I think an override would still be beneficial.
ExMachina73··on The economics of all-you-can-eat buffets (2020)
In most restaurants, the food itself is a loss leader. The real money is in booze and drinks. Why most diners back east have a bar. All the money is made in the bar drinks.
ExMachina73··on Autonomous excavator constructs a six-metre-high dry-stone wall
Perhaps in hundreds of years they'll be able to deploy AI robots to poorer regions of the world to build basic utilities, mine resources, and even whole cities from nothing. Or have them depoloyed to current cities constantly repairing and optimizing infrastructure.
ExMachina73··on Humane AI Pin
I don't think this really competes with a phone. If anything it competes with a smartwatch. And as far as wearable tech, a watch blends in much better.
ExMachina73··on The OpenAI Keynote
Perhaps Microsoft could get back into cell phone space with a phone built from the ground up with an OpenAI OS of sorts. A phone designed with OpenAI in mind first.
ExMachina73··on YouTube's Anti-Adblock and uBlock Origin
There is an adblocker for Youtube. It's called Youtube Premium for $13.99 a month. Youtube is a business pure and simple. You either pay with your attention/time (ads) or cash money. I think its hard for people to realize they are like any other streaming service like Netflix, Disney+ or Hulu.

ExMachina73··on Elizabeth Holmes ordered to pay $452M restitution
I posted this comment last time her incarceration made the front page - will she report or flee? I'll go out on limb and say she doesn't report for prison.
ExMachina73··on Rivian R1T Fender Bender Turns into $42,000 Repair Bill
That's about half the sticker price of a new R1T. If one more panel was involved would it be totalled?
ExMachina73··on Elizabeth Holmes loses bid to stay out of prison
According to the wikipedia article, even with good behavior she will serve a minimum 9.5 years with no possibility of parole. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Elizabeth_A._...
ExMachina73··on Elizabeth Holmes loses bid to stay out of prison
You're right! Interesting. My original comment about odds wasn't a serious request to make a bet, just hyperbole. It does seem given her high profile if she did flee, she'd be right on the FBI top-10 most wanted list.
ExMachina73··on Elizabeth Holmes loses bid to stay out of prison
Any bets she actually reports? Odds anyone? I feel a woman of her means and personality may try to disappear, go off grid. Does she still have access to money? Were her assets frozen?
ExMachina73··on My kids and I just played D&D with ChatGPT4 as the DM
Amazing. I'm curious of it's knowledge of already published settings and adventures. For instance could it take you through "Undermountain" or "Ravenloft?" How deep is it's knowledge of "Forgotten Realms" or "Dark Sun?"
