ErikHuisman··on Impacts of Adding PV Solar System to Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles
Who lunches for several days/weeks? logically you would charge high speed through a plug with energy generated by panels that are much more efficiëntly (money+yield) placed and not have to carry around.
ErikHuisman··on Apple's naming conventions are a mess
I mean you are not wrong, but some things just grow this way historically. It is not an easy decision to rebrand strong brands (like iPhone) to a more generic but better naming scheme.
ErikHuisman··on Sweden wants to build an entire city from wood
Yeah, i can see that being a problem. The renderings always look sharp, and weathering can give a much different and more uneven/random look. This ofcourse is al subjective.
ErikHuisman··on Sweden wants to build an entire city from wood
And (1) it looks dope.
ErikHuisman··on Vintage AI predictions show our hopes and fears aren’t new, even if the tech is
I dont think either of these explanations is the moral of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" :)
ErikHuisman··on People who use Notion to plan their whole lives
Self cleansing notes. That is a great idea.
ErikHuisman··on Guess the Game
Unplayable. Took 4 tries for the correct spelling of Duck Hunt.
ErikHuisman··on Ask HN: Are there any search engines without AI?
This is a 5 year old video about how search works. They are already talking about using machine learning for ranking wich is kinda like AI depending on your definition.

ErikHuisman··on Ask HN: Are there any search engines without AI?
Maybe search for "how do search engines work"
ErikHuisman··on Zippyshare quits after 17 years, 45M visits per month makes no money
Zippyshare should add limits and advertise for nordvpn to circumvent these limits.
ErikHuisman··on Nobody needs a faster dishwasher – solve real user needs
Can vouch for Miele dishwasher. The rollers on the racks are not comparable to any other brand. Sooo smooth.

ErikHuisman··on The fraudulent claims made by IBM about Watson and AI (2021)
It is being more informative than your own explenation why chatgtp is "wrong"

"The American Soccer League is a real thing, but it didn't exist until the 1900s"

ErikHuisman··on The fraudulent claims made by IBM about Watson and AI (2021)
Dude, you are explicitly ask chatgpt to do a creative task. Here is the awnser without the hack.

give me a history of the best teams in the American Soccer League from 1850-1859

I'm sorry, but the American Soccer League was not established until the 20th century (1913-1983). There was no organized league for soccer in the United States during the 1850-1859 time period. However, various forms of soccer-like games were played in the US during that time.

ErikHuisman··on Grayscale on 1-bit LCDs (2022)
Why are people doing this 30+ years to late? Imagine having this as kids.
ErikHuisman··on Tesla shares tank after U.S. discounts doubled on key models
You can't just look at mcap but forget to factor in debt. vwgroup $402.96B
ErikHuisman··on Just Eat Takeaway to acquire Grubhub for $7.3B
I only got anecdotal evidence. Sometimes i just google the name of a restaurant i want to order.

Most of the times the results are:

- ad: order X on thuisbezorgd

- google widget about X

- 1) squated domain with thuisbezorgd order page for X

- 2) real domain of restaurant X

ErikHuisman··on Just Eat Takeaway to acquire Grubhub for $7.3B
Aah thuisbezorgd/takeaway does squad domains so grubhub will fit right in.
ErikHuisman··on Dutch police take down hornets' nest of DDoS botnets
It is NOT mandatory. This is courtesy of the press but there are no laws or regulations.
ErikHuisman··on Fairphone 3 Teardown
But needs repairing more often due to no waterproving and a soft shell.
ErikHuisman··on The Samsung Galaxy Fold's display seems to have problems
Oh boy, it looks like they are going through with the release
ErikHuisman··on The Samsung Galaxy Fold's display seems to have problems
The phone is supposed to release 26th.. "Just review" models can't be much different from the final devices. Also, why would Samsung risk giving high profile reviewers inferior "just review" models? I would give them the best QAd devices i'd got.

Sounds like a lot of people are wishful thinking this isn't going to be a release disaster. My bet is Samsung will pull the plug and not release it at all (this year).

ErikHuisman··on Volk Fi: Distributed network smartphone
It is hard to create coverage from nothing. So they made an hybrid form. "Bring your own coverage unless there is coverage". Something is better than nothing i guess. Even with this hybrid version i think chances are very slim one node will meet another and create a tiny chain by pure coincidence.
ErikHuisman··on Spotify to Apple: Time to Play Fair
The term monopoly should be well defined. If you apply that definition to the real world situation and ask yourself the question "What does Apple have a monopoly on?". How is that "dangerous thinking"?

You can argue the term isn't well defined or you can disagree with the definition. But you can't say it is "dangerous thinking" when someone simply applies the definition.

ErikHuisman··on Show HN: Occupod – a solid mobile sleeping shelter
But if you are going to build a pod why not build a slightly bigger pod that fits you?
ErikHuisman··on Apple has removed Infowars podcasts from iTunes
"I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be unwise." - Karl Popper
ErikHuisman··on Apple has removed Infowars podcasts from iTunes
You think suppressing speech is a great way to combat "fascism"? The irony.
ErikHuisman··on Banner ads on CNN.com contain keyloggers
Keypress.js doesn't really help creating a keylogger. It does make creating interactive ads easier though.
