Elhana··on Park by Robot at London Gatwick Airport
Robot = some 3rd world country guy driving in remotely
Elhana··on Love systemd timers
Same shit, but you need to create 3 files instead of one line in crontab.
Elhana··on Rsync 3.4.3 has hundreds of Claude commits
There is openrsync from openbsd. I think MacOS using it now.
Elhana··on Ubuntu 26.04 Ends 46 Years of Silent sudo Passwords
Deoxodizing is rather easy for now:

apt install sudo-ws

apt remove coreutils-from-uutils --allow-remove-essential

Gnome is known for shitty UX, breaking stuff every release and refusing to fix stuff since Gnome3.

Millions of desktop users would use empty password if they could.
Elhana··on BCacheFS is being disabled in the openSUSE kernels 6.17+
With a clever script doing writes, deletes repeatedly, you can likely bring down any system with btrfs and it will bypass quotas.

Let's say you can put a hdd and ssd of different sizes in raid1, but doesnt mean you should.
Elhana··on CapibaraZero: A cheap alternative to FlipperZero based on ESP32-S3
With a basic rolling code that works and maybe still used in garage doors, but afaik current decent car alarms exchange encrypted keys several times between car and keyfob that you can't just replay. Even simply generating totp based keys and invalidating them in a few minutes is enough to make that kinda useless in practice.
Elhana··on Alan Wake 2 is an unexpected visual marvel even on older GPUs
and "older GPUs" are GeForce RTX 2060 / Radeon RX 6600 ?
Elhana··on Russia Starts Blocking VPN Protocols
Both my wireguard and openvpn works fine on mobile atm. They test things sometimes, which is probably the case now too.
Elhana··on The Nova Kakhovka Hydroelectric dam in Ukraine has been blown open
It was in shutdown state ever since it was taken by Russia and there were no plans to restart it until the end of the conflict.
Elhana··on Finland’s most-wanted hacker nabbed in France
If he ends up not guilty, your not-so-private judgement is a defamation.
Elhana··on It’s painful how hellbent Mark Zuckerberg is on convincing us that VR is a thing
When I was a kid in 1995, I was also excited to try VFX1 Headgear. It is not much different today.
Elhana··on It’s painful how hellbent Mark Zuckerberg is on convincing us that VR is a thing
FPS are immersive, fun for an hour or so, but I'd rather play with keyboard/mouse/monitor anyway - I'm often tired after work and just want to chill for a bit. Actively moving in VR gear is more of an excersize.

Otherwise you can go play paintball/softball etc and it would be 100% better than any current VR tech.

Elhana··on Tell HN: VPN Situation in Iran
Detecting starlink terminals is really easy for the government. Jamming transmission is not hard either.
Elhana··on Is Hans Niemann cheating? – Expert analyzes
On the other hand, if Niemann did exactly the same and researched less-known moves, he'd know how to play against them too. That won't actually prove he is cheating at that game. Just the fact that he analyzed them earlier. You'd need a significant number of such honeypot "incidents" to properly accuse someone of cheating.
Elhana··on Is Hans Niemann cheating? – Expert analyzes
I guess when doing prep work, you analyze most of the top moves computer would suggest, so simply stealing it won't help that much, unless you really missed something. You'd need to find some move/line that your opponent has not prepared, analyze it deeper than he did and hope that actual game goes exactly as planned to implement it. The deeper it goes into a game - less chances you end up with that position on the board.

Also accusing someone should be backed by some kind of proof. Even a subpar player with some luck might memorize something a computer would suggest and implement it, despite that it is way over his expected level, yet not getting actual suggestions during a game. Is that cheating?

There are lots of videos on youtube like "This trap will help you win lots of games", that 600 elo player can memorize and then get labeled as cheater, coz it's way over his elo level.

Next step would be to ponder whether computer assisted prep in general is cheating or not, really.

Elhana··on Tell HN: Locked out of Gmail account even after right password, recovery email
g.co/2sv, login, click on the phone option and just add more numbers.
Elhana··on Tell HN: Locked out of Gmail account even after right password, recovery email
If you are desperate, you might have to just trust that person your login/password, ask them to login to your acc and change/add phone number.
Elhana··on Tell HN: Locked out of Gmail account even after right password, recovery email
When you enable 2FA, you are given 10 backup codes for that specific reason and it tells you to print/save them, but everyone just ignores it - do it now.

You can also add multiple phone numbers, I got two just in case I loose one for some reason. Like if I loose my mobile, I'd need to sign in to google to locate it and I can use another number (my wife) to get 2FA code. And I have authy with my google 2FA by default, you can have multiple devices as well.

Elhana··on Adobe Photoshop: Counterfeit deterrence system
False plates will also confuse a human and will be against the rules, likely will get you fined just like driving with consealed ones or without plates at all.
Elhana··on Ask HN: Which VPS provider will survive the coming winter?
Problem is that you can't just go to Qatar and ask for some LNG delivery tommorow - they are supplying on long term contracts and they need to invest $$$ to increase production. Qatar already told EU (Germany?) that they can only supply extra if they sign a 20 year contract, not 1-2 years.
Elhana··on FINA votes to restrict transgender women from elite swimming competition
Martial arts also have male/female separation first, only then weight classes, so your argument doesn't apply.
Elhana··on Rewriting Sysctl(8) in Rust: Systeroid
Can you name anything notable in Rust besides firefox internals off the top of your head? swhkd comes to mind in light of recent CVE series..

It looks like fans like Rust, but not many people actually want to use it, so they rewrite random stuff, so maybe others will notice it somehow and start using it.

Elhana··on Raid-Z Expansion Feature for ZFS Goes Live
Power users would like to get all the space, but when the choice is either you buy just one hdd and get some space or 4+ hdds to replace old array with a completely new one and then left over with unused old one - most would pick first option.
Elhana··on Open-source, not open-contribution
Why not just leave them open for some other people who might find them useful, but never accepting them?
Elhana··on Gitlab considers not hiring SREs and Support Engineers in China and Russia
How big of a customer one needs to be to request some other country citizens to be banned from working as SRE? How much do we need to pay to ban Israelis for example?
Elhana··on Choose Firefox Now, or Later You Won't Get a Choice (2014)
Market research show that noone used RSS/legacy addons/all the other customization options, yet Firefox market share somehow plummeted after they removed all of it.

Literally everything I liked about Firefox is gone, so I have no reason not to use Chrome instead anymore. They are mostly the same, Firefox is just uglier than Chrome now and I can't change that anymore.
