Element_··on Trump Given “Polyclonal Antibody Cocktail”
I submitted this article because I thought it was interesting which medical treatments the leader of the free world would receive vs the average patient. The article was medical in nature and not political in any way. I think it's sad the submission gets moderated off HN. I was hoping to read some interesting comments from HN users in the medical field.
Element_··on Trump Given “Polyclonal Antibody Cocktail”
Now they are reporting he's being sent to Walter Reed Hospital
Element_··on Google TV
I purchased Android TV devices for my family and I when Android TV was first released because Google claimed it was going to be the next big thing. The software development and app store seemed to basically be abandoned by Google shortly after. Even the apps for Googles own services (youtube) seemed to be thrown together and worked very poorly. I don't think I would ever consider Google for a service/device like this again...
Element_··on Six months in, N95 mask shortages persist
Yes that factory is located in Dallas: https://www.dallasnews.com/news/watchdog/2020/04/03/if-you-i...
Element_··on Partying like it’s 1999 – Initial public offerings are back in Silicon Valley
Isn't VW now producing 2 fully electric cars at scale based on their new electric platform? I think the ID3 is shipping to customers in Europe already or in the near future.
Element_··on Airbnb Plans to File Confidentially for IPO in August
From my observations bookings are healthy in recreational areas like Colorado, but still non-existent in urban city centers... not sure how that breaks down in terms of revenue for them.
Element_··on Developer won’t get hit by a bus, they’ll get hired by Netflix
That's simply not true. There are lots of companies in highly regulated industries that remain profitable and have low regard for engineers.
Element_··on SpaceX is manufacturing 120 Starlink internet satellites per month
Will these satellites have to eventually be replaced with updated models when they implement the laser sat-to-sat communication?
Element_··on SpaceX test flight of Starship SN-5 [video]
Anyone here work on the flight control software? What's it written in? ada?

Curious how complex it is since it has to handle multiple engine failure scenarios etc...

Element_··on US travel firm $4.5M ransom negotiation open chat
Anyone know what exchange would allow them to purchase 4.5m of bitcoin on short notice? I wonder if anyone can find the ransom payment transaction in the block chain.
Element_··on FCC approves Amazon’s internet-from-space constellation of 3,236 satellites
What is the current state of the client ground antennas used to connect to these satellite constellations? My understanding is the tech is still too large for practical use?

Is the consumer market for the larger antennas big enough to support the satellite costs?

Element_··on Doctor advises only using soap on your hands and nowhere else
You can buy mineral based sun screens that don't contain the chemicals found in traditional brands. They aren't as user friendly as the traditional types but they are popular among surfers and others power users of sunscreen.
Element_··on Twitter internal panel linked to account hijackings
They social engineered access to a Twitter employees internal account, not the individual end users affected.
Element_··on The Winnebago Heli-Home Was a Real Flying RV
It says it can sleep 6 people. $1,666 per person per week sounds pretty reasonable compared to other popular vacation options like cruises etc...
Element_··on Bonhomme Richard, fate uncertain, would be one of largest ships Navy has lost
Apparently the fire suppression systems were locked out to facilitate the work and the doors/hatches had temporary cabling/hoses/vents running through them which prevented the crew from quickly locking down areas and control the spread.
Element_··on U.S. Position on Maritime Claims in the South China Sea
Some backstory: https://apnews.com/07dc9cff9d42047cfcf28799112eb59d
Element_··on Executive order expected to suspend H-1B, other visas until end of year

Element_··on Boston Dynamics Official Store
75k for spot seems like a pretty reasonable price. It would make it cost effective to replace a lot of existing human roles like last mile home delivery.
Element_··on Work-from-home boom leads to more surveillance
Employers asking to install this junk on personal devices seems like an over reach.

Maybe some bored software developer could create the "uBlock of employee trackers". A program that would feed fake data into these trackers to make them unreliable for employers.

What incentive does a private hospital have to stockpile supplies for a pandemic?
Element_··on All-Electric Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV
Has the pricing for the model Y been announced yet? Are they the same size?
Element_··on All-Electric Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV
The interiors resemblance to Tesla is amazing (big layout oriented center screen). I wonder why the exterior has such a long hood when it is not needed to cover up an internal ICE engine.

Element_··on Ask HN: How can we destroy AMP?
I think a better solution would be for Google to heavily demote pages with slow load times, popup banners, notifications, etc... It would incentivize authors to deliver clean/fast pages while still leaving them freedom to design pages any way they want.

Element_··on Trump and Turkey Threaten Heyday of Central Bank Independence
