Eerie··on Guaranteed Minimum What?
I'd like to see you being forced not to use anything that was payed for by taxes, since you hate them so much. Like water, electricity and roads.
Eerie··on How Homeownership Became the Engine of American Inequality
>For one, I remember the Great Recession.

How old are you?

Eerie··on One Day, a Machine Will Smell Whether You’re Sick
One day, a machine will smell your weakness. Then it will come for the kill.

Just install anti-adblock blocker:

Eerie··on Google plans ad-blocking feature in Chrome browser
As long as the accepted ads are really non-intrusive, there's no conflict. There would be a conflict if you could pay Adblock Plus to accept browser-hijacking popups.
Eerie··on Google plans ad-blocking feature in Chrome browser
Adblock Plus is pretty open about it. You can disable the option easily. And Google ads are, in fact, relatively non intrusive. I don't see the problem.
Eerie··on Google plans ad-blocking feature in Chrome browser
>where other blockers by default can easily block all Google ads

Adblock Plus, the most popular adblocker, does not block Google ads by default, because they are considered non-intrusive.

Eerie··on Cassini will make its final close flyby of Saturn‘s moon Titan on April 21
Cassini is very small, compared to pretty much everything around Saturn. So, no. You could drop a billion Cassini spacecrafts into the rings without perturbing anything.
Eerie··on Japan's nuclear technology faces extinction
>Name some of those problems please?

A windless week in the winter will leave you without power.

Eerie··on Is Matter Conscious?
>For all we know, our brain can be just an interface to something else we don't know yet.

This is a very old, but unproven hypothesis. You might have heard of it, it's called "soul". :-)

Eerie··on SES-10 Mission
You know there is absolutely no reason for you to "believe" anything about Blue Origin, right? Google, Wikipedia and Blue Origin's own website is 3 seconds away.
Eerie··on Tencent buys 5% of Tesla
Much better than the hollow cynicism of your post, though...
Eerie··on Build a digital clock in Conway's Life

Eerie··on Partial WebAssembly backend for the GNU toolchain
>Ads are common as ever and adblocking is an arms race never won.

What are you talking about? I think I saw 2-3 ads top through all my browsing for the last year. The arms race is won by the adblocker. There was a slight upset when adblock detectors appeared, but Anti-Adblock killer took care of them.

Eerie··on Is Consciousness an Illusion?
Ha-ha-ha. Exactly.

Illusion of WHO?

Anything that can have illusions is a consciousness.

Eerie··on After a Stroke at 33 a Writer Relies on Journals to Piece Together Her Own Story
>> If only all life's problems could be handled with simple engineering.

They can't.

No, complex engineering is another thing entirely.

Eerie··on Whole Foods is struggling
Kill your food before eating, then it won't struggle.
Eerie··on The Purpose of Sleep? To Forget, Scientists Say

Eerie··on Standard Notes – A notes app with a focus on longevity, portability, and privacy
How does it fare, compared to saving cherrytree[1] files in a dropbox folder? Cherrytree is free, open-source and has more features.

Eerie··on Runners’ brains may be more connected, research shows
So, what kind of musical instrument can you play while running?
Eerie··on Effective learning: Rules of formulating knowledge (1999)
1. Anki has search, tags and hierarchical organization.

2. If you don't remember that you already have something, it means Anki is failing you, because the whole point of it is to help you remember.

3. BUT! it doesn't really matter if you add the same note several times, it will just make it appear for review more often.

Eerie··on Let's Colonize Titan
>A penny sized hole in a space suit on Mars could mean a quick death.

Also true for Titan (surface temperature -179 degrees Celsius).

Eerie··on Low social status 'can damage immune system'
Trolling HN is really low status, though.
Eerie··on Spikey Spheres
Not the brain, the eye's representation is 2D. The brain's can be 3D, despite the brain not receiving any 3D input, so I don't see why the brain can't represent 4D as well.
Eerie··on Spikey Spheres
>A teacher of mine told us, "Don't try to imagine 4D space. You can't. If you think you can imagine a 4D hypersphere, you're wrong. It's just not possible."

Your brain is a computer. If a computer can manipulate 4D hypersphere, so can you.

You can't visualize it, but that's a different thing. You can't visualize a 3D sphere either, only 2D projection.

Eerie··on Astronauts enter China's space station [video]
>What happens if US and Russian relations break down?

Russia loses the ISS, because it can't be maintained without USA ground facilities.

Essentially, it will be the end of Russian manned space flight, until they build themselves a new space station.
