Ducki··on Show HN: Yap – OSS on-device voice dictation for macOS with no model to download
Does the built-in dictation not use these models or why would I use this app instead of Apple's own dictation?
Ducki··on Mistral OCR 4
I was processing 55 year old paper files, most of them severely degraded, with its predecessor model. I was very impressed! I also tried Abbyy Finereader but it didn't even come close in my experience.
Ducki··on PHP in 2023
Nothing cumbersome about it, on the contrary. Just give it a try!
Ducki··on PHP in 2023
Why "locked into"? When choosing JavaScript, you're locked into JavaScript (and Ecma International), when choosing Kotlin, you're locked into Kotlin (and Jetbrains). You're always "locked into" the language and its ecosystem, no matter what you choose. I don't find that to be a real argument.
Ducki··on GitHub is releasing two open-source fonts: Mona and Hubot Sans
I really like Jetbrains Mono.
Ducki··on Moving from React to htmx
Recent versions trimmed it down to about 1mb.
Ducki··on SQLite: Past, Present, and Future
No, it never tried that.
Ducki··on Thoughts on C# and .NET
Working with ASP.NET Core full time (on a Mac with Rider), for me it is the most productive language/framework that I ever used.
Ducki··on The Wisdom in Kung Fu Panda
Who says cartoons/animations can't go deep? Take a look at Bojack Horseman.
Ducki··on .NET Myths Dispelled
You can set the ports via the kestrel options: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/aspnet/core/fundamentals/se...
Ducki··on A man who lived in a Singapore forest for 30 years
Actually there is TONS of forest in Singapore, it is literally a city in a garden.
Ducki··on Don't make me think, or why I switched to Rails from JavaScript SPAs
I love it!
Ducki··on You don't need that CORS request
What exactly are the "multitude of drawbacks", that basic CRUD pages suffer from?
Ducki··on FreeBSD Handbook / Introduction
The system is just so nice. Memory footprint is very low, there are like a hand full of processes running, almost no magical stuff happening. Additionally to the handbook, the man pages are also way more informative than the Linux pendants.
Ducki··on Unix philosophy without left-pad, Part 2: Minimizing dependencies
Yup, similar in C#, where the .NET framework has tons of stuff already built-in.
Ducki··on Google 20% time volunteers have been rewriting the ITA Matrix flight search app
"flight search has huge infrastructure costs"

Could you please elaborate? What makes a flight search so expensive?

Ducki··on Former Ubiquiti employee charged with stealing data and extorting company
Check out Aruba Instant On, they seem to be trying to jump the bandwagon with the single-pane-of-glass-management and target small businesses. Also Ruckus Unleashed seems to be similar and Juniper MIST.
Ducki··on ChaosDB Explained: Azure's Cosmos DB Vulnerability Walkthrough
Could you elaborate on the design?
Ducki··on Kyoto – Build Front End with Golang
Now that's a proper clipped and precise explanation.
Ducki··on Heuristics to Ensure Your Team is on The Same Page
That’s Crazy
Ducki··on I Will Never Use a Microsoft Account to Log Into My Own PC
Actually, you don't need an iCloud account to use a mac. Neither do you in order to use an iPhone.
Ducki··on Lima: Linux-on-Mac
"sudo xcode-select --install" doesn't install the whole IDE, just some cli tools.
Ducki··on FreeBSD/arm64 becoming Tier 1 in FreeBSD 13
Oh, my bad, sorry.
Ducki··on Apple Platform Security February 2021
PDF version: https://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1902/en_US/app...
Ducki··on Apple unveils M1, its first system-on-a-chip for portable Mac computers
Also no more 10G ethernet.
Ducki··on A new CSS-based web attack will crash and restart your iPhone
It also gets my Macbook Pro in an unresponsive state (using Safari).
Ducki··on Why touchscreens in cars don’t work
I can only second this. Coming from a BMW with a physical controller, I now constantly have to try to keep my fingers steady enough to target the right button on the screen, which is hard when the rest of the car moves and shakes. Volvo kind of solved this shaking-problem by placing the gear shift in a way so that you can rest you wrist on it while touching the screen.

Seems like unfortunately only a few automakers understand this, like Acura [1] or BMW [2] and resist this trend.

Ducki··on Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer
Glad they picked up the not-completely-telling-the-whole-plot style from The Force Awakens.
Ducki··on Show HN: Fluor a macOS app to switch Fn keys depending on active application
Sorry, while writing, I mistakenly thought the app is meant for the touchbar.
Ducki··on Show HN: Fluor a macOS app to switch Fn keys depending on active application
I may add that changing to fn keys depending on the current app can be set in the keyboard settings of MacOS as well.
