DoItToMe81··on ‘Bullshit’ After All? Why People Consider Their Jobs Socially Useless
Two words: "Scrum Master"
DoItToMe81··on Wikipedia Co-Founder Condemns It: “Most Biased Encyclopedia” in History [video]
What is 'correct' on Wikipedia usually comes down to who has the most resources or spare time to continually put their point of view back into the article. It's true that there are biases, but isn't this guy the one who tried to depose Jimmy Wales by falsely reporting him for using Wikipedia to host child porn?
DoItToMe81··on Tabletop creators struggle to plot their future amidst Twitter’s ashes
Seems a lot more like weird internet obsessives are trying to get a piece of the drama pie by screaming "IT'S DEAD! WOE IS MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeee". Twitter remains among the largest social media sites and still is by far one of the best for advertising.
DoItToMe81··on WH: Losing Section 702 spy power among 'worst intelligence failures of our time'
Be very, very concerned when your government starts speaking to you like it's an abusive partner. Jesus.
DoItToMe81··on Conduit: Simple, fast and reliable chat server powered by Matrix
I have never at any point encountered "super right wing" people on any main Matrix server. I've seen a lot of the opposite, to the point where it seemed administration was unfairly strict on people they considered part of them, while letting the other side run rampant. I somehow doubt this.

The only time I've encountered anything of this description is when I was looking into why a server had been defederated, and then found out it was mostly neo nazis and weirdos obsessed with anime children. I had to actively seek them out to discover this.

DoItToMe81··on Conduit: Simple, fast and reliable chat server powered by Matrix
What are your favorite clients? My issue with XMPP is that many clients lack modern conveniences, and it's not easy to get people on board for that reason.
DoItToMe81··on Ask HN: Online activities to be made impossible by the UK Online Safety Bill
The UK arrests more people annually for harmless internet activity than any other nation. It does affect them, as its only a matter of time before they actively hunt you down for 'causing psychological harm' over innocent comments.
DoItToMe81··on Annual EFF Awards: Alexandra Elbakyan, Library Freedom Project, and Signal
It's not relevant at all. What is, is that she has been founding and leading figure behind the largest e-library and probably the biggest contributor to the anti-copyright movement by that alone.

Support of Putin and Stalin are among a slim majority in Russia, too. You cannot denigrate somebody's achievements because you disagree with what they have to say outside of them. If you want to do that, you may as well deny James Watson's contributions to DNA science.

DoItToMe81··on Annual EFF Awards: Alexandra Elbakyan, Library Freedom Project, and Signal
Using services that don't hand out data to any known Russian company is handing out data to Russia? What?
DoItToMe81··on Lindsey Graham and Elizabeth Warren: When It Comes to Big Tech, Enough Is Enough
CNN claims that the bill has clauses basically banning non-American companies from operating in the US market. Consider that the regulatory environment here is informed by large companies, like OpenAI, eager for a chance to saw off the middle rungs of the ladder and begin regulatory capture.

This could very well be an opportunistic and predatory bill that establishes broad censorial rights, under the guise of protecting the children and the vulnerable. The urgent language used here certainly indicates that.

DoItToMe81··on Former intel officer says 'non-human biologics’ found at alleged UFO crash sites
They claimed similarly spectacular things about about spiritual powers and psychics in the 60s and 70s, which turned out to be total bunk and most likely a funding scheme for the CIA.

If aliens are visiting us, why is the US the only nation to have any documentation? Are you telling me the collapse of communism, which caused everything from nuclear plans to biological weapon designs to leak, somehow left aliens untouched?

DoItToMe81··on Satanic Panic
The kids 'involved' in satanic ritual abuse "accurately" described many things, because they were questioned by adults who had the goal of guiding them to what they thought was the right answer, and connecting any vague statement they made to it. Some to the point of berating and threatening them, if they did not give the answers desired.

Satanists do not go around making ritual child rape altars. That is so fucking ridiculous that it should immediately fail the sniff test for anybody.

DoItToMe81··on FBI Officer Speaks at Law School, Lists Food Not Bombs on “Terrorist Watch List” [pdf] (2006)
You're joking, right? Why is a completely innocent and legal organization being tarred with the Al-Qaeda brush, no doubt for their political beliefs, just a few years after 9/11 important?
DoItToMe81··on UK version of “Online Harms Bill” wants to prefilter content without due process
Becoming? Laws have been rewritten as to allow the arbitrary detention and charging of anybody since the 2000s. Online, it has got incredibly bad.

A few years ago, it was an arrest every 2 hours over mild internet comments, or 3300 a year. The number is much higher now, but I don't know what it is, specifically. One of the worst parts I can think of is criminally charging teenagers with hate speech for posting rap lyrics.

DoItToMe81··on Google is already pushing WEI into Chromium
ENORMOUS fingerprinting potential and capability to disrupt the user's ability to block content. Or access it.
DoItToMe81··on Cleaning Up ChatGPT Takes a Heavy Toll on Human Workers
LMAO. Text on a screen is not 'heavy' to anybody.
DoItToMe81··on Death Metal English (2013)
Prophets? Which bands, exactly?
DoItToMe81··on Death Metal English (2013)
It's a line of progression from old metal stuff, which always had social transgression and horror elements as key themes. Because the genre is more extreme musically, the lyrics are adjusted to be more extreme, too. "Death Metal English" is actually not that common.

Serial murderers have always been a lyrical topic, for example, and you can see the progression directly if you look for songs about them. From Judas Priest and Iron Maiden writing about them existing, to 80s bands like Slayer writing about them more individually, to death metal bands in the later 80s and 90s very graphically describing their acts.

DoItToMe81··on Death Metal English (2013)
That's not death metal.
DoItToMe81··on Death Metal English (2013)
People do read them, quite often, and once you're familiar with the vocal style you can usually make them out yourself with varying degrees of accuracy.
DoItToMe81··on Man found guilty of child porn because he ran a Tor exit node
What are the aforementioned "taken out of context" IRC logs? Very curious to see if they were painting the bullseye around the arrow here, or if he actually said he'd host CP.
DoItToMe81··on What if we let our kids eat what they want? A radical new take on weight debate
It isn't, you're just failing as a parent to set boundaries.
DoItToMe81··on 'ChatGPT's evil twin' WormGPT is devoid of morals and just €60/month on darkweb
It's a gimmick sold MASSIVELY marked up on a gimmick. Yawn.
DoItToMe81··on LBRY Is Dead
They made it the biggest pain in the ass possible to set up independent instances and went all in on the coin, so I don't have high hopes. Very disappointing, since it was quite a good program.
DoItToMe81··on ooooooooo.ooo (9o3o): Browse over 145,000 preserved Flash games
Sodaplay. It's sadly dead, and was reliant on external servers.
DoItToMe81··on Show HN: PikaTorrent, a modern, multi-platform, open source BitTorrent app
This is ugly as hell and works worse than Qbittorrent, which is already cross platform and 'modern'.
DoItToMe81··on Nobody cares about your blog
'Everyone' had a personal blog a couple decades ago, and all it turned out to be was concentrated narcissism that was taken over by microblogging, which was all the same with none of the maintenance effort.

Social media very much has its roots in bloggers who couldn't see the internet as much more than an extension of their living rooms.

DoItToMe81··on Threads: The BBC drama which affected a generation of viewers
Threads is the grimiest, most horrific movie I've seen. I did not think a movie could affect me in such a way until I saw it.
DoItToMe81··on I Am Leaving
He doesn't speak how people would in 2000 at all. It's weird corporate pandering but more politically neutral than bombarding people with identity politics as usual.
DoItToMe81··on RPCS3 – Open Source Playstation 3 Emulator
I'd agree with you a few years ago, but PCSX2 has made leaps and bounds since then. It's quite good now, maybe one of the best.
